Latest Update: Final Image: Ambassasor's arrival
04 April 2008, 10:13 AM
I tried to visualize an ancient specie that shows great power, yet it has a fearful appearence - a Patron race that is far more powerful than humanity.

Color and perspective sketch.
I like the mood, but I'm not sure about the composition... It's a bit too simple.
04 April 2008, 10:22 AM
A bit more subtle composition.
Although the color and atmosphere is better in the first sketch, I'm satisfied with this "peeking" view - it has a feeling that we could see somehing we shouldn't.
Anyway, that's all I have for today, all crits are welcome!

finalized perspective, and composition.
It's time to start detailing... That'll take me some time! :)

Nice designs so far, for both the alien and the setting. Have you considered how the human or humans are going to be involved in the scne? (Don't forget them, they're a requirement! Or at least you need one to have human/alien interaction.) While the current perspective is intereating, I thought that the lower camera, with it at about a human's-eye-view, lent itself to showing human interaction better that this high-up angle. But I don't know where you're planning on putting the people. Good luck...!

Hey Levente, really nice sketches and cool design on the alien. The colors on the images work really well. I think the last perspective looks great. A simple composition is not bad and you dont lose credits as an artist :D You use the composition for the viewer pleasure and for he reads in an easy way your idea and what you want to transmit. In this way there is no simple compositions, only a comment :) and like a lot your work. Looking forward for more updates ! Cheers mate!

Walrus: uhm... Honestly, the interaction as a requirement totally missed my attention :D
I'd definitely put some (human)people in the background at the bridge, and in the top right windows. But maybe it won't be enough, and I'll have to put someone in the very foreground too.
Ferx: Yes, I truly agree with you about the compositions in general. I meant only that my first composition was too simpe for my vision or mood I was aiming.
Anyway, thanks for the feedbacks! Both were useful!

I had just little time to work on this piece in the last weeks - and I have to finish it until 5th of May, because I'll be out of town after that.
Knowing this, all critics are welcome!! :)
I think the picture is about half-ready, the very background is more or less finished, along with creature.
The pictures's story will be about the first real contact with galaxy's ambassador.
I want to capture the moment, when the engineers and leaders are stunned by the gateway (or something) as the over-powerful being just appeared.
What I really like in the Uplift story is that mankind's just a puny lifeform that could easely be destroyed by more advanced species.
the image (point of view) mach perfectly with your aim.
At this point the scene is pretty cool. with more details this must be one of the most interesting and beautifull 2d image here around.

As the United Earth Directorate built the first gateway, it became possible to contact intelligent extraterrestrial life-forms. Although many plans were made in case something goes wrong - everybody was optimistic.
No one was prepared what truly happened there.
As soon as the Ambassador appeared in full sight, the people were stunned - apart from its terrific vision - nobody have ever felt the presence of such an over-powerful entity.
The feeling of being puny mortals spread across the room.

THE FINAL IMAGE ROKS!!! compiments! and good luck!

Thank you guys!
It was a great experience to make such a huge and detailed artwork - some of the critics here were great help. I'm more or less satisfied with the final state [it's ~85% what I've imagined] it's better than my average pictures.
I really don't know how the Masters [eg. Mullins, Wallin, Verhasselt etc.] manage to keep the image fresh until the final tuoches... It's something I have to research.
Oh, and I certainly hope that my crappy english won't kill the mood :D I'll work on that too!
05 May 2008, 06:29 AM
your english is fine, this is not a grammar contest, hehe :) nice concept, Goodluck!
