Yikes! This looks really good! I like the point of view that you have chosen and the composition is strong and tells a story. Looking forward to more.

04 April 2008, 07:15 PM
This one looks good. I like the perspective and action. Anything with a four-armed monkey search-and-rescue operation is good times in my book.

04 April 2008, 07:34 PM
Neat concept so far: Nice palette and perspective, looking great! I almost was going to asky you where the human interaction was but I later noticed the unconscious human in the alien's arms. He doesn't stick out very much at all. You might want to thing about brightening the values on the human's outfit to make him stand out against the background a bit more. good luck!

Hello Lukasz,

This looks fantastic. Very heartfelt piece. It shows alot of compassion on the alien side of things. Great concept.

04 April 2008, 02:56 AM
Truly a great piece so far. Looks very polished for a first sketch! I do agree with walrus about making the human more noticeable. You'll probably have to add some new lights... maybe coming from the spacesuit/helmet/lanterns? Another idea would be to extend the canvas or crop the image to place the characters a bit closer to the middle where they can have more visual weight. Anyway its an outstanding start, good luck!

04 April 2008, 10:08 AM
Great start, outstanding concept sketch! Has all the elements for a great picture. Good luck!

04 April 2008, 02:22 PM
This is a great concept! I like it! Perhaps you can push view closer to the rescuer and from a worm's eye view so we can see some dynamic perspective. I'll be keep my eye on this one! All the best!

04 April 2008, 08:13 PM
I agree with jeromo there. A closer look and worm-frog-perspective (sorry in Croatia they call it the frog perspective.

It has all the right spices to become iconic. Talking about iconic, give the rescuing alien a git more distinctive features and in this case possibly add other identical but ordinary looking aliens. Good going.

Best of luck

Great idea, nice view. Teraz tylko dobrze kolorkiem operuj, pozdro =)

I was working with light. I hope now it is better than before.

Thanx for your comments.

04 April 2008, 03:33 PM
I like the way this is going very much, Lukasz. Great composition and pathos. Should be a real crackerjack image when it's finished.

04 April 2008, 07:07 AM
Hey Lukasz,

This is one of my favorites in the competition. Keep it going. fantastic job!

04 April 2008, 11:07 AM
This looks great! Love the perspective and the hovering drop ship. You still have a lot of detailing ahead of you, but I'm pretty sure this will look awesome :)

Keep up the great work!!

04 April 2008, 06:11 PM (

Thank you for comments :-)
I work with light now, I have added orange light on the right to bring more life to the scene.

04 April 2008, 03:44 AM
I like the idea that the alien is in a well thought out spacesuit, but it's not like from Alien or anything complex. One of David's ideas was that the aliens in the Uplift series had BILLIONS of years head start over us and so had pretty much all technology figured out. The Galactic Library was filled with over 7 Galaxies worth of information so there wasn't a lot of creativity when someone else probably invented the same thing 3 million years ago, just go look it up. The cleanness of the suit and the setting give that kind of feel. Keep going.

Hello Lukasz,

This is really coming to life. The lights from the droid on the left really adds to the piece. Keep up the awesome work. By the way, this is still my favorite piece. Brad

Mission objectives:
Light and color.

I've tried different colors in this scene. I'm not sure if I'm going in right direction.
I'll be grateful for some suggestions.

Bigger change in ship design,
Now she is more complex than before.

05 May 2008, 03:34 AM
Very cool progress mate. The lighting scheme is coming to life and you managed to keep the beautiful painterly style. My only comment is that the sky is becoming too saturated and cheerful, and it breakes the more serious mood it deserves. I would suggest being selective about the places where to add high saturation, and leave the rest muted. Something I find useful to do when I'm not sure about such things is to play with an adjustment layer. Set it to desaturate, and apply it as a gradient. It can be a linear gradient, or even a hand painted gradient-"mask". It's quite easy, it takes less than 30 seconds (really) and if you don't like it you can simply through it away.

Hope it helps and saves you some time experimenting. Good luck.

05 May 2008, 06:44 AM
Thanks :-) I'll try this today.

05 May 2008, 06:37 PM (

More work on the upper part of the image.
I've dimmed the sky a little, and added some clouds.

05 May 2008, 07:55 PM
Definetly better!

05 May 2008, 09:01 PM
Looking better and better, great colour choices so far.

05 May 2008, 10:21 PM
Nice picture, I like the compositing, caracters in close up in strange background, it looks handsome.
Ship design is better now than previous.

05 May 2008, 11:37 PM
Lookin great so far!
I love the play of warm vs. cool. The composition is working very well. Im looking forward to seeing this one more finalized. As you move forward, I would love to see the farthest elements muted more to create deeper atmosphere.

Best of luck Ortheza!

05 May 2008, 12:01 AM
I really like how you've toned down the lighting from one of your earlier posts (#13) and added the secondary red light source. All in all the lighting is looking better each time - nice work! Good luck with the finishes on the rest of it...!

05 May 2008, 03:06 AM
you're entry is looking good, overall lighting are well place, good composition and nice color palette too.

good luck.:)

05 May 2008, 05:59 PM
Yes, the color work is excellent here :) The cold - warm colorization is spot on.

05 May 2008, 08:04 PM (

Some details, little redesign of alien suit.

05 May 2008, 08:23 PM
Turning out really well. Very striking composition I think.. Looking forward to final image.

05 May 2008, 03:03 PM (

Few more details in this update.
I've added 3 pods flying to the ship.

Thank you for all your comments,it's like fuel to my hand :)

05 May 2008, 09:24 PM (

More work on the bottom left corner of the image.

05 May 2008, 03:43 AM
lovely aliens and lighting really good. that spotlight on her makes it work better ! .

05 May 2008, 09:44 PM (

Almost final image.
Thank you all.

05 May 2008, 06:22 PM (

The idea of the scene was to show a crash landing site. Inside crashed ship a big alien is helping wounded human. In fact there are more aliens operating from ship above but i have focused on this one pair of characters.

05 May 2008, 06:38 PM
Another kick-ass entry. Glad you made it in time :)

05 May 2008, 11:56 PM
Yep, kick ass! The colours are amazing! Well done.

05 May 2008, 04:39 AM
