there are many ways you can do it

or particles with a fluid shader attaced to it

its very hard to find nuke tutorials online, especially good ones, but, what i can suggest that helped me lot when learning about fluids is the visor, go in there, look at some of the fluid examples they have and learn from there, that what i did. trial and error.

They both have there pros and cons to it.

I can say that im not that happy with the nuke in the visor, what i can also suggest is go on youtube or google and see how nukes works, how do they explode, what happens, and from there u start building it.
how does the mushroom cloud look?
how does it work?
what happens?
how does the smoke itself look? work?

and learn then start learning how to do those, once ur able to independantly create those objects, u wont have any problems building it all as a whole.

im actually doing the same thing.
and i found this on youtube.

its for 3ds max, but he basically says it in a way you can do it in maya

-create geo that looks like the explosion
-animate it
-add particles to it
