Is it possible to animate bone deform effect on and off ?

Might be easier to write a script that animates all bones slip value to 0

not sure about 3.0 ,, but for me would be safer to have a main hidden rig affecting all the time and a slider to follow the pos of the one you are animating...then you can simulate an on off action. without risking having the mesh do weird stuff..

Morphing a copy of the object into(and out of) a deformed version of the object should do the trick.
