Beautiful image!! Great work on the lips! The only thing I don't like is the colour of the bracelets on the right wrist... great otherwise!

05-09-2003, 11:56 AM
This is fantasic stuff!!!

05-09-2003, 12:03 PM

bravvvvoooooo !!!

really front page quality....
i give you 5 star !!!!

but have to agree that i stoo dont like the color of the bracelet ..

05-09-2003, 12:08 PM
as you mentioned the elbows are not that good, but over all: beatifull work indeed.

05-09-2003, 12:08 PM
Where, there is not to much ?
The modeling is great, "the cloth, damn give us somemore info"
The texturing is great too, I would work on the skin texture, the texture looks great on the head but there is just something wrong on her arms (specularity and glossiness).

Is it Irene from NT ?

05-09-2003, 12:10 PM
Front page, front page :bounce:

05-09-2003, 12:57 PM
PLEASE send this to me for teh gallery.....I think this would make a great LW ad :bounce:

also send in to has to be in that book!

05-09-2003, 12:58 PM
very nice, I too wanna see some wires

05-09-2003, 01:10 PM
Thanks for the comments guys

robinson : the cloth was done with a gradient set to incidence angle, in the color slot. Nothing special :-) I added a 500 um crumple procederal texture in the bump slot.

proton : I will send it to you as soon as I'm done with the background and elbow changes. I'm also busy with a radiosity render to see what it looks like. It should be done early next week. Hey, have you seen this site, proton?
We are trying to get more people in South Africa, to realise that Maya is not the only 3d application ever written. :-)

Facial Deluxe: cool, I'll post more angles, wires and close-ups soon.

The more I look at it, the more I want to change her pants....or not change them, but rather model the pockets in stead of using bump maps.

05-09-2003, 01:16 PM
Very nice work! Maybe the specular highlight on the right arm is a bit too hot.
The right index finger that touches her face appears of be a bit double jointed as it bends a bit unnaturally backwards.
The folds in her top blouse material tend to give the appearance of folding down to her right and away from gravity as if a wind is blowing at it yet the white fur appears unnaffected. The pant bump texture looks a bit smeared, i.e. the right pocket opening. The rim lit portion of the left breast peekaboo effect makes the blouse appear more see through on the left side and hardly at all on the right portion of the blouse.

05-09-2003, 01:40 PM
This is stunning work!

She looks great! Love the headband!

05-09-2003, 02:20 PM
i dont really see how much could be improved!

really impressive work.
the clothing is somewhat finalfantasy-esque, i really dig it!
the model is great and the render awesome!

front page, front page, front page!!

05-09-2003, 02:21 PM
VERY good!!! :airguitar

Agree with chewie about the blouse. Regarding the pants I suggest you just skip the pockets. Isnīt it reasonable to think clubby ravers buy hyper-designed clothes with low comfort & functionability and donīt care so much about things as pockets? ;) Otherwise I think the bumpmap on the pants is perfect.

Another thing about the blose; I suggest you take a look at how the folds and wrinkles appear "Y-wise". I think you should adjust the folding up and down to correspond better with the depth/width-folding. As it is now, it almost appear as one curved edge.
Hope you get my point :)

Looking forward to seeing this in Expose! Great job :scream:

05-09-2003, 02:26 PM
man you are the best:bowdown:
i am getting in love with this girl:)

05-09-2003, 04:29 PM
Excellent
Why u not posting this image on Gallery Finished works too ? - it's mast be on header ...

05-09-2003, 05:50 PM
looks great!

the only problem I see is the skin shader/shadow on her arms and looks like sasquatch shadow has its way with it (I know it did on my girl here ( and I could never have full control over it's appearance

but your work has that little touch of reality to it that I really like - especially her gloves material

05-09-2003, 06:09 PM
get her clothes off!!!!

05-09-2003, 06:34 PM
Heya Werner :D

05-09-2003, 07:06 PM
i just have so much to learn. this is truly amazing. you guys just inspire so many of us. this is great. keep it up!:applause:

Mmmmh, still no wires around......
(yes, some of us are more impatient than others...)

05-09-2003, 07:15 PM
Damn! This is good!!! Im fine with the bracelets, in fact i think they compliment the shades and lightwave logo on the scarf. Is that sasqatch?

05-09-2003, 07:41 PM
finally the front page :thumbsup::bounce:

05-09-2003, 07:44 PM
Love the cloth, you can almost feel the texture just with visual clues only, texture on the headband is great, I love the way the blouse just flows over her.

Whats her name ??

05-09-2003, 07:46 PM
gotta say that it was pretty obvious that it would make the front page... top job :applause:

PS. someone earlier did mention funny elbows, with that sorted there would be nothing to improve upon...

05-09-2003, 07:48 PM

the forearms are a little too shiny i think...

Morbid Angel
05-09-2003, 07:49 PM
hay nice work...i got one detailed as everything else is, the arms seem to be lacking some detail ie muscule definition.
But other then that great work.

05-09-2003, 07:51 PM
Awesome render!

05-09-2003, 08:01 PM
quite a stunning piece...she looks very unique

05-09-2003, 08:08 PM
Is it just me, or does her head look a little too big for her body?

I don't know, it looks so great I don't know if I am going crazy here... nevermind...

05-09-2003, 08:12 PM
Thats really nice!

Great Stuff.

05-09-2003, 08:15 PM
Holy Renders Batman, Are my Eyes deceiving me? AWESOME :buttrock:

05-09-2003, 08:17 PM
:buttrock: :buttrock:

Excellent render Werner!
Everything looks perfect, almost. Her blouse/headband/glove shading is just awesome.

Crits for improvement?
Hmm if I can nitpick I would point :
1. The bump on her pants. If its made by leather should have some thickness , then the wrinkles wouldnt be that sharp.
2. Her arms joints. More definition, the muscles & bone.
3. If this isnt for LW promo, the yellow logo can go ;)

Post more.

05-09-2003, 08:24 PM
If it hadn't have been put on the front page, I'd have missed this....hope you sling it in the gallery when you're happier with it. :)

05-09-2003, 08:31 PM
AWESOME ...dont like braclets but what the heck the rest of the image makes up for it :D five stars *****

05-09-2003, 08:31 PM
between this work and your semi-goth girl...hooooly crap you rule

the onlything i can think of about this current work is the lips could use some detail like bump

05-09-2003, 08:59 PM
While technically, it's very good, I can't help but notice that she has a very emotionless expression on her face. I think it would be nice to see some sort of pose or expression that adds character. Maybe have an eyebrow raised and a slight grin or something, I dunno... oh and the skin looks plastic-y.

Great model!

05-09-2003, 09:01 PM

05-09-2003, 09:03 PM
wow great work ...
the weighting so smooth
sometimes i wonder how you guys go a good weigthing.
any tips??
I'll appreciate it..

05-09-2003, 09:21 PM

05-09-2003, 09:37 PM
awesome stuff!!
Really showin' off what lightwave can do... sometimes I wish I started on lightwave, becaues after 2years of max and maya, Lightwave is so counter-intuitive.

05-09-2003, 10:21 PM
WOW great model !!!
Can you pls post some wires? Nice work.

05-09-2003, 10:26 PM
I like the bracelets.

You already know this by now- but that is a really good model, goo dtexturing, and overall NICE pic.

05-09-2003, 10:27 PM

05-09-2003, 10:40 PM

05-09-2003, 11:50 PM
... (e.g. the silence of respect for beauty)

05-09-2003, 11:52 PM
Wow this is really nice work.

The only thing I can think of at the moment is the shirt/blouse seems like it should have some bump on it.

05-09-2003, 11:54 PM
Beautiful :wip:

That's neat :) I like the lighting setup a lot, and the way you color the shadows. Can you tell us more about how you did it?

(I think that the elbows needs to changed to be more "pointy")

Very nice, can't wait to see more
Like your website design a lot.

05-09-2003, 11:58 PM
cool man

05-10-2003, 12:02 AM
i love it!!!!!!! i love the lighting, i love everything!!!!
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :scream:

05-10-2003, 12:20 AM
Great work but I don't think that the pose of her arms and upper body (pretty relaxed) match the pose of her hips and upper legs, which seem... a little more unnatrual and forced

05-10-2003, 12:24 AM

05-10-2003, 12:26 AM
very nice!

05-10-2003, 12:40 AM
The head is too large.

05-10-2003, 01:27 AM
wow great stuff, no crits here other then what's been mentioned

05-10-2003, 01:32 AM
great, nice pose too...

but why ur model face look like the one in a book "Inside Lightwave" r u remodelling the same figure.

but anyway, is a good design...nice nice nice...

05-10-2003, 02:51 AM
She looks EXACTLY like Dr. Jean Gray from Xmen. It looks fantastic

05-10-2003, 04:57 AM
Great Job! Excelent image! Though I think the pants could use a bit of work, hair as well.

05-10-2003, 05:33 AM
Great Job!
Very good modeling and surfacing as well as posing, ah everything is great!
I liked her better when she was more gothy though, but this is only personal preference

05-10-2003, 05:39 AM
No comments here :D

05-10-2003, 05:41 AM
I'd like to see a wire, and maybe a short explination on the techniques used.

Is there a real life model, did you draw an original model first. did you use image plains? You know just a short explination.

Nevertheless she is fantastic,:applause: and beautiful.

Love the cloth.

05-10-2003, 06:43 AM
i like the gesture and delicate body u tried to show!

05-10-2003, 08:15 AM
It's weird, in that goth pic she almost looks like a cross between Cameron Dias and Angelina Jolie :D

05-10-2003, 09:23 AM

05-10-2003, 02:26 PM

(hey a bit SSS in the skin as well as more imperfections in the texture willl make her even more realistic!!!)

05-10-2003, 02:42 PM
I love your cloth modeling.
pretty one:bounce: :bounce:

05-10-2003, 03:55 PM
what the f... quick ass awsome chick!

05-10-2003, 04:08 PM
Really excellent work. You're 100% there in most areas, but a couple of crits if ya want 'em:

1. The arms and the exposed shoulder need some more definition and structure. If you isolate these areas they lack the same care as the rest of the model. In the forearms, it's not just the elbows, but try to define the muscles under the skin. In the shoulder, give a hint of the clavicle and define the deltoid a little more - both of these are very evident in model body-types, and should result in the shoulder looking less like a round ball shape.

2. The skin on the face is awesome. The skin on the arms does look too shiny, as some have mentioned, and needs some mapping to break up the perfection of it.

Really excellent work. It's great.

Also I'd lose the Lightwave logo. It seems to cheapen it a bit. Unless of course they're paying ya for this...

05-10-2003, 04:10 PM
Absolutely Amazing. I'm in awe!!!!

05-10-2003, 05:01 PM
The model rocks!!

can I have a date with her???

:bounce: :bounce:

05-10-2003, 05:22 PM
Hey Werner Love it man your model is absolutely awesome ,love the textures.I am glad we South Africans are displaying our talent out there.:applause:

05-10-2003, 05:25 PM
wooooah :applause:

Uitstekende werk man, ek onthou toe ek die goth version gesien het was ek baie beindruk, maar nou het jy 'n heeltemal ander "look" gevolg vir haar gesig en klere. Hou nog altyd van die leer broek.....and now I'm starting to struggle with Afrikaans as well :)

Great job overall, would love to see some close-up renders of her face, those lips are seriously smooch-worthy

05-10-2003, 05:38 PM
Really everyone else already said...but itīs true....only thing i could really crit right now is the skin looks kind of glossy and smoothe to me...i mean itīs like smoothe leather...and thatīs not really what skin looks like...but overall really nice...good on ya'

05-10-2003, 06:34 PM
omg! its Lightwave at work!

05-10-2003, 07:07 PM
way cool man. Great to see aa few more fellow South Africans here at CGTalk...

05-10-2003, 09:52 PM
did you use motion designer to create the shirt?

05-10-2003, 10:02 PM
Awesome! She reminds me of Kate Archer of the No One Lives Forever game :)

05-10-2003, 10:34 PM
whoever said sex doesnt sell is dumb...can i have her? here's all my money:drool: *hands out the $$$*

05-11-2003, 12:38 AM
the skin on the arms especialy, looks like metal, not skin.
I'd try to get a softness there, some kind of saturation of light rather than the shine. The bracletts are odd.
nice layout and mood. I like her glasses and hair a lot. sexy

05-11-2003, 03:04 AM
Very nice work!

The only thing that really stands out to me as awk is the Right Hand Index Finger that presses against the face. The bend in the top most joint of that finger doesn't seem right. I tried the pose on my own face and to get it like the picture I had to press my finger tip against the cheek. This pressure gives an indentation on my face. I don't know if adding this indentation or changing the finger pose would help with this awk problem?

05-11-2003, 06:03 AM
Very nice work!! ... I too would also like to see some wires :)

05-11-2003, 06:15 AM
So when is this going in the gallery

I don't want to sound cliche, but this is brilliant.

05-11-2003, 02:24 PM
Great job. only three things to fix:

left breast is flatter than the right one or seems so anyway, less hi-beams than the right one ;)

finger on cheek is wrong.

and the right forearm has too much brightness on it.

but those are only small details to fix. i love the overall look of her, great job!!

:bounce: tutorials please.

from all of us wavers.
WE SALUTE YOU:buttrock:

05-11-2003, 08:35 PM
Absolutely awesome.

Wow, thank you all soooo much for the cool comments and crits!

I will go through all the comments and try to fix all the little problems. I've updated the image on the first page of the thread, with a couple of changes...the Lightwave logo stays...sorry guys, and I'm not getting any money for this.

Leigh, jy is 'n ster! Baie dankie dat jy die image ge-plug het!
O, jou Afrikaans is baie goed, en ek kon alles verstaan!

only thing still buggin me[besides the *cough*lw*cough*cough**logo*], is the smoothness of the bottom of her top, needs a hem me thinks

05-12-2003, 02:04 PM
I can only echo all the good things already said. Great work... the whole image has a wonderful soft feel. She has a certain amount of "life" that is so often missing. Thank you for sharing your work.

05-12-2003, 02:27 PM
Awesome work. Glad to see some Lightwave work up on the front page. As for the bracelets, they look like those amber jewelery you see around. All in all, great. I definitely agree with Proton. This image should definitely be in some ads or books or something.

05-12-2003, 02:30 PM
HOT! Very nice stuff

05-12-2003, 03:03 PM
Werner -

beautiful work. very inspiring. excellent cloth work - actually all the texturing is incredible. as others have said, it's great to see some lightwave work of this caliber hit the front page.

I'd love it if you could share your surface for the leather pants.

Keep up the great work.

Looks to me as if the left breastis squashed, there's no fabric overhang like the right. Anyway, i should keep my mind out of the gutter.

Well deserved.....can't wait to see this in Expose.....

As soon as I get the image I will pitch it for some sort of LW advert.....might make a great image for the LW8 box:buttrock:

Very nice piece of work indeed. There are few things though that have not been mentioned yet which have been naging at me a little, if I may.

Her left hand knuckles seem awckward . The 3rd and 4th knuckle are quite inflated and smooth while the fifth feels rather bony and shrunk.
Another comment relates to her blouse texture. The top part of it reads like a smooth fleace-like material while it reads like a plastic bellow her breast line.
And while I am on the breast subject I will echo a previous comment about her left breast missing from the picture. After seeing the wiremesh I have to conclude it would just be a slight lighting issue.

Voila, my two cents. Hope I am not a pain and keep up the good work.

sorry if im wrong.

I know Werner, and I know this is a LW model. This guy DOESN'T use Poser, and this certainly doesn't look like one of Posers crap models.
That kind of comment really smacks of jealousy...

amazing work!
Iīve been reading the crits and so and...
I think you rather remove the pockets from the texture instead of model them, I think those pants are tight enough to have pockets, I mean, in a practical point of view... who could be able to put a hand inside the pocket in such a tight pants?

How did you make the clothes??? is it photoshop? or are the textures pure and simply LW??? I need to know... :surprised
hehhe did you use a shader?

:thumbsup: :applause::airguitar:

Bad way to start your cgtalk experience pal....perhaps stop using poser and you'll be able to make something yourself.....

Great job Werner:thumbsup:  :)

I would take that as a compliment...Poser models are great models that have been developed over the years....I think Werners has a lot more character but that's just my take....

just a opinion:
Poser models are nice for references and anatomy research, however their geometry is pure crap. Only thing i liked in poser is sketch designer and it can be used for storyboarding for people that aren't so good with hand drawing.

oh, i'm going OT now, awesome work Werner:applause:
