View Full Version : DWIII - 2D - Treble-clef - Desecrator

For DWIII, this is like, theee very very basic overall apearance for my character so far, without weapons or anything, kinda just wanted to get the rought idea.

Info are as followed

Race: Ancient Diety
Class: Claricon
Magic: TBA
Artifact: TBA

I'm actually having trouble deciding what kind of artifact type this character will be using because I don't know what category 'plagues' fall under, to my knowledge, I think it's under Dark because it's sort of... a death or disease related thing, but also does it seem like it could be a type of summon, seeing that the way he will spread the plague is through tinnier organism? Due to the fact that one of my character's main ability is to blighten the battlefield.

Basically this character acts as a giant, heavily armoured 'medic' in a sense, that it can heal or strengthen allies, while crippling enemies with its negative magics... but I'll have more details with those later on. (

Did some more idea sketches for this character, a lot of this stuff might be changed in the future, but its still a general idea. I'm thinking of shortening the spinal segments in the next version, maybe it looks too plain? I'm also thinking of adding some sack-like organs around the gill's ligaments, maybe it could end up being like the organ that produces the plague spores... (

Adding a few more ideas here, this time, I'm thinking of changing the magic type of my character to a summoner rather than dark, because it'll be more interesting I guess, but he'll only need to sit back for most of the fight : )

I might also change his overall appearance from the big and bulky caterpillar crab thing to a more sleek, reptile, and crab style, referring to example B (

This time I'm actually doing an overhaul on the whole idea of the giant bug. I've noticed that in previous games, there are frequently a lot of giant insect like characters, and it would be too much of a cliche to redo one. So now I've remixed a lot of my previous insect and crustacean concepts, into something a bit more interesting. I've always wanted to do something huge that acts as a mobile fortress, while still being able to defend itself from the enemies. I've looked into natural animals which possess those characteristics, such as a tortoise and a crab, but I didn't want to give this character too much legs, so I thought having him being a tripod would make him more stable. I've also wanted to give this new concept an intimidating look, so I kind of implemented the idea of giant, hulk or gorilla-like arms, which can serve as wrecking weapons, or as a shield to protect the main body part.

This character is not only very dominant in size on the battlefield, but he also serves an extremely useful purpose of garrisoning other smaller allies within various locations on himself, thus acting as a mobile fortress.

This creature is more like a mix between crustaceans, insects, treant, and a bit of just some general rocks for structural strength. (as you can sort of tell, that the tree roots are attaching themselves to the bolder-like forearms) While he still has 2 arms for normal functions, such as manipulating objects or casting spells.

I still want to leave this character as a summoner, and for that matter, his left arm (the one with many holes, like an ant burrow) is the arm that will have the ability to send out swarms of his summoned creatures. (please refer to image from the previous post)

I will still definitly do more tweaking for this character, especially his face, and the abdomen area, but generally this is what the character will ultimately look like from now. (

More details on this character will soon be posted, so I think I won't go with other different new ideas for my character's appearance later on, because the deadline is coming up real soon.

Ok so now that I've got the basic looks of this character down, I'm FINALLY starting to refine the details on this guy. I was thinking of giving him a second mouth around the lower part of his body, so to confuse the enemies, while making them think that the lower mouth is the weak-point, while the true head is far above on the top, protected by his artifact.

His upper body is actually surrounded by trees and the remains of an old temple. As you can see, roots from the ancient trees are already seeping into the reminants of the old temple structure. Due to the fact that he is a deity of the ancient gods, the natives mistakenly built the temple around his body to worship the god that this character represents while he was in a deep slumber. Now that he is called to battle, he has taken the temple along with him, as extra armour, and conveniently as a garrisonable structure for any allies that wish to seek shelter at above : ) (

This is the actual detailed version of Desecrator's artifact. It is of an ancient (Mayan-like) culture, which worshiped a god, who represented the idea of life, death, and rebirth. I did two versions of the artifact, one representing life, and the other (B) representing death. However, I was not sure how to properly show them at the same time, so I thought it will be more interesting to show them as one single artifact, with one opening up to the other, to show a true sense of the trasition from life, to death, to a rebirth. Thus, the rebirth part will be the actual face of the Desecrator, which is well hidden underneath the artifact, which also serves its purpose as an armour for my character. (

Here are some of the ideas for Desecrator's primary limbs, which he uses to either manipulate objects, or in casting spells. I kind of found it convenient if he was to have 2 types of hands, one which allows him to use it as a regular hand, while the other one (the claw) will allow him to do the more heavier works, such as cutting or holding much bigger objects. Pus I still find that the outter crustacean-like armour comes in handy when protecting its fragile, plant-like structure on the inside : ) (

More updates, this time, showing how the Desecrator summons his creatures. They all come from his larger wrecking arm, which is like an ant burrow, or a bee hive in a sense. These creatures pour out of his arms and rain down onto the battlefield. Their primary offense is to either intoxicate enemy troops with their jellyfish-like tentacles, or self sacrificing their bodies to purge a considerable amount of the deadly fluid to dissolve, or severely cripple enemy troops. These chemicals can eat away at even the most durable of any mystic armour. These creatures also have the amazing ability to heal damaged sections of the Desecrator by injecting their toxins onto wounded parts of their master, or by self sacrificing their bodies to repair damaged shells on the Desecrator. Many indepth concepts here! all greatly drawn too! just keep it up, cant wait to see the finals

The actual form of the head area of the Desecrator, with the artifact. Long ago, an acient civilization discovered the artifact burried within the land, thus they constructed a great temple to worship the gods, who they believed which brought the sacred artifact as a blessing to their people. As time past on, the ancient civilization vanished without a trace. Unknowingly, the ancient civilization constructed the temple around the deity of their god, the god of life, death, and rebirth. Thus when the tides of war came, it awakened the slumbering giant, and now it carries with him, a piece of the ancient world.

The temple is not only for show, but also serves as a garrisonable structure for allies and friendlies of much smaller sizes. It is convenient for travelling, and it serves as mutrual protection between the Desecrator and his allies, due to the fact that the enormous size of the Desecrator greatly limits its agility, thus it really needs others to watch his back : ) (

this needs more recognition! :D
very cool unconventional concept! I also love the massive scale!
Nice sketching so far, hope you can finish!
I actually really like shape 'A', the crab like design and the thoracic segment mechanics! I hope you'll have that in the final design!
Hurry up, dude!

More stuff here. This is going to be the final look of the monster, but I have yet to paint in his 2nd pair of limbs up top.

I felt that the character looked too much like a creature, so I gave him a face that could express personalities, and I've relocated the artifact ontop of his head, which looks kinda right too!

As for the final upload, I'll try to crop the pic down with the 1000dpi width, while focusing more on the character : ) (

Hi Jin ,

Wow! Crazy good sketches and design love the good ethnic background in all of them!

The size you choose itís really good, since itís like a moving temple titan! And the details for the artefact are great, as for your colors I like them all very warm and inviting to see what else he can do! So I donít know if you are planning to have some reference in there of the robots, or people he is bout to crash? So itís easier to have the size reference?

Really kohl entry! Hoping to see more updates soon!

Hey thanks man, I'm actually going to have the CGtalk army in front of him, all marching towards the viewers, OR I can have people from other teams getting stomped on by my character in the foreground : ) Don't worry, this is still a work in progress, I'm just focusing on the character's render atm, but all the rest will follow!

Pretty much this is the rotation sheet for my character, more to come soon! There's so much details that just wouldn't show because of the small size limit : ( I haven't submitted this as the final rotation sheet yet, because I might just tweak some stuff near the end : ) More to come! (
