View Full Version : Moving particles around a torus?

Hi, everyone my first post so please be gentle.

Have spent years in After Effects compositing but I want to branch out into the 3d aspect and spent the last 6 months or so trying to get to grips with Max version 8 and pretty much mainly obsessed with the particle side of things and Afterburn.

Have spent what seems an age trying to set up a mushroom cloud for my Afterburn project, at the moment i birth all my particles at frame 0 on a noise ridden hemisphere then have them blown upward in a wind s/warp..this is what i have so far, minus the bells and whistles glows.... (I uploaded for this post and to gauge compression settings.)

....but i want the particles to roll more around themselves and looking at various other efforts around youtube they seem to go in themselves and backout the head of the mushroom.

For more complexity to the head of the cloud, i want my particles to move up along a torus emmiter and carry on circulating round and round the structure like this rather badly illustrated motion.... (

kinda a like an upward moving ,torus shaped, particle conveyer belt, if you see what i mean.

can this motion be done in pflow, am using Max 8, am pretty ok with pflow but far from expert level yet.

Cheers for looking guys.
