This is my alien concept, Im aiming for something unorthodox but still likable and familiar... but only just. He will be sculpted in Maya and given a groovy texture in Photoshop.
03-23-2008, 06:50 AM
Cool! Great looking illustration & concept!
03-23-2008, 08:14 AM
 Love the design.
Freaky design. He (or is it a she?) kinda looks like one of those things from Star Wars. You know the ones with the flat heads and in 'Clone Wars' he did that real awesome loud screech/echo thing where his face blew up all big and puffy? But I digest. :D
Anyway, it's an awesome design, I can't wait to see how it looks in 3D. Wonder how those textures are gonna look...

this is the basic form of the thorax and head of my alien as modeled in Maya, so far a cross between a Marabou stork and a vacuumn cleaner.
03-23-2008, 11:41 AM
very interesting alien shape. i want to see the finished model, it looks great
03-23-2008, 10:57 PM
Details of my alien's head and right hands. Alot of reeaallly niiice work
03-23-2008, 11:00 PM
A couple of front and back views of my alien with limbs attached -a veritable mosquito-gibbon.
03-24-2008, 05:26 AM
Oh yeah, Humans! this is my crew of four -one is repeated in profile to show more of the frumpy space-suit, I love that budgeted colour scheme.
03-24-2008, 05:45 AM
So how does that alien move then, does it kinda drag it's arms along or pile the arms on top of the head? It really looks like it doesn't have a skeletal structure at all... ...Coooooool.
Meanwhile, the humans look like they really did come from Earth - those spacesuits look impossible to move in.
Still can't wait to see how that alien's gonna look finished. :scream:
03-24-2008, 09:02 AM
The latest shots of my alien, beginning to look more organic now.
03-24-2008, 09:10 AM
:) Very original alien design! I like it a lot. The humans also look great. Can't wait to see more.
03-24-2008, 10:48 AM
I also realy like the design of the alien. Very imaginative but plausible.
03-25-2008, 10:47 AM
Just started on the generic model for my crew of humans, good thing there was a head I had already been working on.
03-26-2008, 10:19 AM
Nothing major. My human now has fingers, and more added to the respirator. Beautiful, beautiful work your're all up to everyone
03-26-2008, 10:46 AM
Cool looking alien! Definitely unorthodox. Any story yet?
03-27-2008, 11:16 AM
Getting better, it already has that crude, baggy outline that I was going for, and the head (the first of four) is looking a little more natural.
03-27-2008, 11:25 AM
Hey there really nice modeling imho
I also want to go polys and textures and give displacement a skip.
Probably do some low poly brushing tough.
Maybe I can get some tips from you sometime to see if I can get to a finished image
Really nice concepts and execution again :)
03-29-2008, 01:10 AM
A head off one of the female crew members. She seems nice.
03-29-2008, 05:31 AM
Now got some chunky geometry happening with the boots.
03-29-2008, 10:43 AM
i like the alien ... keep it coming
03-29-2008, 11:20 AM
Detail of a male crew member's head, looking rather amused.
03-29-2008, 12:49 PM
Another head! I think I'm getting the hang of this.
03-29-2008, 11:29 PM
Hee, one of those heads looks a bit like Hellboy... Or Marv even... :scream:
03-31-2008, 08:46 AM
More on the suit, making the tubes and getting them to bend correctly was something of a learning curve, no really.
03-31-2008, 04:43 PM
cool designs and modeling so far.
I am a sucker for the good design thing.
04-02-2008, 09:18 AM
I'm still progressing with the spacesuit, I hope to turn my attention back to the alien soon.
04-06-2008, 06:48 AM
Im now roughing out the alien's skin tones in maya, I dont want his form to become too lost in bodily markings.
04-06-2008, 07:43 AM
Like you alien concept a lot. One thing though about the colours - they seem a bit to harsh. They look a bit unnatural - that's only my opinion of course.
04-06-2008, 08:40 AM
I quite like the alien colours here, except maybe for the joint "rainbows".
So it's a colourful pest, but a funky one too imho.
04-06-2008, 01:19 PM
Still playing around with the texture,
which is why the skin just does not look right in some places, but I am pretty thrilled with the effects that I am able to achieve thus far.
04-08-2008, 09:09 PM
Noooiiiice. It's going well - love those textures.
04-09-2008, 12:05 PM
Great looking alian, very organic and the forms flow nicely
04-09-2008, 06:47 PM
Very powerfull color scheme on the alien.
04-12-2008, 12:45 AM
As you can see, I'm still working on this one. I've drawn much of my inspiration for this texture from dinosaur skin reconstructions, particularly those that have used a lot of bold colour contrasts.
04-12-2008, 12:52 AM
interesting wierd but interesting, good luck.
04-16-2008, 11:12 AM
Hi folks! Just another human head but with her texture added. The eyes still seem false to me but they do seem to have that "twinkle" so far.
04-27-2008, 09:35 AM
Why is this alien holding a pipewrench?
All will be revealed within the next sixteen days...
05-01-2008, 10:46 AM
Just a very basic mock-up of the layout for my image. That thing in the middle of the room is the outline of a very special present intended by the Aliens for the Humans.
05-02-2008, 12:33 AM
Further development on the chamber. Yes, it is what you think it is.
05-02-2008, 01:22 AM
One of the more hirsute members of the crew, at some point in deep space he's given up on the regulation buzzcut.
05-05-2008, 12:16 PM
Just experimenting with composition,
I think that I've got the mood about right.
05-08-2008, 02:25 AM
Nearly there, some alterations have been made to the Alien.
05-08-2008, 02:34 AM
Another more contemplative member of my crew.
05-11-2008, 12:36 PM
Almost finished, believe it or not.
05-12-2008, 09:46 AM
Well Im beat, but I do Intend to see this through. I've refined the background and some of the textures (that floor may have to change), and made the room much smaller.
