some research of possible video elements again. So I was thinking about my story and I will prefer very simple entry with very short story. I will have human man, his alien girlfriend and probably flower, alien flower. And it's going to be something around their date. I want to have some kind of funny shocking moment integrated so I am considering few possible ways of how to finish the story. More to come :)

@Goul - Glad you like my models. Want to keep them effective for animation purposes. And I am still not very familiar with sculpting tools so they may look bit retro in this highly detailed era.

Here is a bit of techie, a part of heavy load machine used by Universe Lifters Co. As for the backgrounds and other props - I will work mostly with flat colors and gradients to catch stylised retro look in my show. Challenge ends in 50 days, so I say 10 days for materials and TD part, 30 days for animation and 10 days after effects touch-up-ing. Sounds reasonable, but life is life you know...

Oh, the sweetheart character is fabulous, totally cracks me up each time I see it. I like the style for the tech stuff too, it will all look good together. Great work, but I hadn't expect anything else :)

Howdy folks,

So I finished first model for the show. Hope you like it. I am also starting to shape out the whole look of my animation here. The logo is in its beta version, but overall I want to have this almost empty retro look for whole show. 44 days left - kinda scary looking countdown, heh. Just keep swimming...

Unfortunatly I can't see your full animation all the ways, though due to my low speed conection I'm on now, Btw it looks great as rendering, lighting and overall look;
I'll check it tommorow on my workplace for sure;
ah and I see you're working with XSI, how good is his RIG and/or Animation workflow?! I didn't use it ever but I saw some grate works from that!
and about cowntdown! yesss! I'm just agreee! it's like a nightmare! and these days going so fast!! :sad:

I have some replays for you here. I am so sorry that I am a bit out of your entries but believe me, I know about your entries, I am searching them and enjoying your skills. It is really hard to find the luxury of time, since these challenges took me hell lot of time in past, time I prefer to ejoy with my gf, family and friends these days.

@ Cographicz, liviuberechet, adib - thank you folks, thanks for nice support.

@ infoarq - about a different style: the question is How important is to have a differnet style in pro production and in challenges that are based on pro production idea. So far I see it important in independent enviroment, but you can see clearly what is the eyecatcher. This is my 5th CG challenge, 5th chance to create something visually fresh or refreshing - will see.

@ gpepper - btw, where are you buddy? The league of legends are slowly dissapearing I guess :)

@ gunnie - Thanx sis! I kinda miss your creations around. Glad to have you checking my entry tho.

@ mim-Armand - Thanx for feedback buddy! well, about the XSI - I cant really compare it to the others since it is my one-and-only tool for animations tryouts. To me, the learning curve is very fast and everything is understandable from the animation process. For the rigging part - you need to work on your rigs from scratch in order to have it good for your production IMHO. There aren't many free usefull rigs out there that are easy to modify. I would love to have someone else to create my rigs, since it is hard for me. I am waiting for some magical tools that allows me to creat rigs and skins with single click ( or maybe two clicks ) ;) So overall IMHO - XSI's animation tools are excelent, XSI's rigging tools are in todays standard.

Many jobs to do and I'm late ! I work every week end and night too and it is not finished I have a huge work to do until september !

Main character is finished. I still have to work on "Sweetheart" textures and rig but I am about to start working on key frames and extremes and continuously going to add more and more layers. l8r!

okay, it is about time to show some sketchy motion in 3D ( with little 2D help ). Anyway, it was pretty hard begining in 3D because of some unexpected technical problems with storing action clips. Still not solved but I want to start handkey work tomorrow so I am hopefuly going to progressing faster from now on :)

Thanks Tyson! As you noticed there is many action and I prefer to have whole compact story within 30 secs time limit. Room is pretty short so it is kinda challenging, but hey...this is a challenge right? Glad you like the timing, nice to read that from pro :cool:

Hey, looking good, the story is a bit hard to follow for me. Not saying it's not good, just a bit difficult for me to understand right away. I had to watch it couple of times. But now I get it. I think you could tie in the "female" arms a bit better, show the girl sneaking up on him or something like that, but that might be a bit too much given the time constraints. I'll keep an eye on this one, no pun intended. It's looking really good, and I like the style. Keep rockin'

Hey Juraj amazing style as always! Love the concept and the color scheme, expecially referring to the finished character entry...The story itself is very original too, only thing is that I don't get quite well what happens to Lifterjoe as the flower attacks...

@XminusOne - thanks for feedback. About the story flow, I think you had some hard times to get it because of rough animation and color look. It is going to be much smoother so more elements are going to be understandable. Dont mind girl's hands for now, it is just placeholder coz I dont have them rigged yet. It will be some sexy move for sure, as you said, sneaking up.

@ThE-ShiFT - woo, ThE-ShiFT team is back! Glad you like my concept. When the flower attacks I want to have him just throw it away. There is nothing that can hurt Joe ;) in fact.

On this small object, which is going to stay in action for about 1 second, I learned a big lesson - rendering passes are not always single click easy. I found a few important limitations especially when you are working with not typical rendertrees ( and I usually do :) So after almost 12 hours of hell tweaking I decided to cut my rendering passes to - main, shadow, ao, masks... thats about it.

my finished CGChallenge XXII entry

As well as a movie trailer should catch your attention and make you want to see the whole movie, opening sequence of TV series should do the same. So I came up with this personal goal for the Uplift Universe Challenge.
My entry is an opening of "Adventures Of Lifter Joe" - new TV series wannabe. These are unordinary space adventures of Joe, hardworking human, who drives heavy load machines for Universe Lifters Co. across the galaxy. There, in such a "cosmopolitan" space everything is possible...

Wow, this is my 5th finished challenge in a row, so I am kind of happy and proud. I pushed my boundaries hardly again, learned and tried many new things, tested my skills in very limited space influenced by my professional and personal life. I am happy with what I brought this time. Hope you will enjoy it as I do.

@adib - Thank you. We both did choose a different styles and concepts. There is so many dark entries and they are getting pretty solid attention. So far it looks like mission impossible for my entry but I hope people will go through all "shocks and WOWs" to find some potention and art in this one as well :) Cya in next challenge hopefuly! @fgdf - thank you. Yeah, I had 1 day left to deadline so I decided to edit some nice MOf material instead of digging the animation / postproduction. Glad you like it.

@eckart - yeah, now the complete film. I am already playing with some new ideas and concepts so I better stop this and move. I am still not too happy with the style, still looking for something much more personal.

@JRBRAZ, turbinea - cool you like the look of it. Yeah, it was my initial idea, to have something simple, light and entertaining.

@ThE-ShiFT - heh, compliments from the dream team again. One day I will work on something with different name and will see if you can recognize me. That will be real exam. Thanks.
