View Full Version : Static Shock (Hermite Effect) Problem!

Alright, I am working off of a tutorial from Maya: Secrets of the Pros 2nd Edition. The tutorial is about 3 years old and I believe I am getting some errors due to newer versions of Maya and such.

So Here it goes.

In the Tutorial it says to enter the following commands into the script editor:

createNode -n "st_baseNormal" "pointOnSurfaceInfo";
connectAttr -f r_base.worldSpace[0] st_baseNormal.inputSurface;

The first line executes fine, but the 2nd line throws up an error:

connectAttr -f r_base.worldSpace[0] st_baseNormal.inputSurface;
// Error: The source attribute 'r_base.worldSpace[0]' cannot be found. //

I am no MEL expert so I don't even know what's going on, but I do know that without that line executing, I can't get a single thing to work.

As far as I know, it's forcing a connection between r_base.worlSpace[0] and st_baseNormal.inputSurface. I tried to do this manually using the connection editor, but I cannot find these nodes.

Any help would be appreciated or maybe a link to a similar static shock tutorial.

Thanks in advance guys
