View Full Version : Biped Char draws sword from scabbards

A char needs to be with hands free walk, stand, etc and at some point draw a sword. Any idea how to go about it.
P.S. Already fully rigged it, I can link the sword to the hand no probs but then it stays there like he was born with it.
Doing it for my portfolio want to export it into a game engine and see what happens.

Thank you.

Investigate using Biped's Prop bone. Or, you can use a Link Constraint. Your game engine may or may not support those features. E.g. our game engine requires custom code to indicate when a weapon gets transferred from one node (the actor's hand) to another node (the actor's pelvis).

Thnx Josh
But I've worked it out. Yes you are right what you said.

However my char can do anything I want even play basketball if I want him too, but the sword would not perfectly fit the scabbbards and might bend at some point and go through legs when crouching etc in some animations . So what I'll do is to make 1 or 2 additional bones for the scabbards and link it to pelvis. Then in the engine set up triggers for the hand bone for the animation sequences eg. hands riches the sword and draws it.

Guys who made Assassins Creed had that problem I saw it in their early demo videos as soon as their character moved his sword never stayed in the scabbards ,but they sorted it out. I reckon they did it that way.

thank you for the feed back once again.
