( aim for Art Space was to explore creative and modern architecture that could be integrated into a difficult or unique landscape.
The terrain I decided to work with is based on the Chinese province of Guilin. I had Guilin in mind from the start because Iíve always been interested in the areas unique rock formations and scenic waterways.
As my setting is based in China, I paid close attention to conform to the traditional Chinese architectural styles along with religious and social aspects that are concerned with that particular country. However after extensive research I could not find any suitable reference to work over which meant painting the whole image from scratch to acquire the setting that I had in mind.
Instead of just designing buildings, I wanted to express how the landscape is affected when mass amounts of people inhabit an area.
Like cities today, human life affects terrain in many different factors.
The main factors which I feel are the most important are space, religion, class systems and consumerism. I made note to incorporate these factors amongst the structures and scenery that I painted.
In conclusion my final piece illustrates possible architectural solutions to modernise, expand and populate difficult terrain, taking into consideration social factors that can arise in such societies like Guilin.
