in xsi can you use weight maps as gradients to apply color? or other effects?
like in lightwave or modo?

i am doing a cartoon, and i need to paint the eyes sockets of the character, instead doing image maps in a paint programs, can i use weight maps and add some kind of node to use a gradient with it?.

look for the scalar map lookup node. That will bring your weightmap into the rendertree, where it would typically be used as a weight parameter to mixer nodes etc.
