Hey guys , just entered the competition. Am a bit late, cos the internet lines in SA are quite slow! Going to post my concept drafts for the 3D competition very soon. Will be creating a hindu warlord with magical armour.

Please be patient with me guys. Its my first post ever!

Hey guys! Heres my concept drawing for my aryan warlord.
Dont think that this will be the final pose in 3D yet. Might be a variation of sorts.
Race: human
Class: warlord
Artifact weapon: holy armour
I want my character to have a sad persona. Crits and Comments welcome.

Nice! You're in !

Right, lets check this character go Epic! I wanna see something Ramayan-stylie ! ;)

I really like the elephant theme you have going there. I'm interested to see where you go with the color scheme and other details to make it feel more like Holy power than Nature. You mentioned that you want him to have a somber demeanor. Do you have some back story rolling for him yet? I'd be interested to hear about it, as your contrasting choices have me interested.

Anyway, keep up the good work! Hope to see more from you soon. This is also my first time posting a project and entering a competition, so if you have the time I'd love to hear your thoughts on my Warlord. The link is in my sig, if you're interested. Thanks!

Suggestions :

1. Add some spaulders (shoulder guards). You could repeat-enforce the elephant motif on them.

2. Leave his head bald, but add a long topnot or braid at the back (like chinese warriors). That'll also be a reinforcement of the elephant theme by giving him a "trunk" of sorts. ;)

3. Dunno what you're planning for the huge tusks on his back, but maybe you can hang some banners/pennants off them ?

Oh, and hows about a quick sketch of the back ?

hey okcyde! Thanks for the interest dude! yeah i have thought of a background story. quite cheesy though. about a young emporer who renounced his kingdom and worldy values to go on a quest to rebel against some demi-gods. when the emporer was a child he was gifted with a newborn elephant. The elephant was the only element that invested in the young emporer's emotional upbringing, as the young emporer was always showered with materials objects. The emporer grows up with his elephant and eventually tradegy hits, and the elephant dies by risking its life to save the emporer. Yeah i know very cheesy!! but basically the gods decide to imbue powers onto this elephant armour that was moulded in the elephants likeness by the emporer himself. And everytime the emporer goes into battle he has this sad demeanor because he is always reminded of his long-lost friend. The emporer ,now a warlord, also a vicious army that believes in his quest. hope that answers some questions for u.

Was thinking of making the colors burgundy and yellow. still hav'nt given it much thought yet. Thanks for the motivation okcyde and good luck to you too!
Will check out your thread now, now!

Lav, whats happening! thanks for the ideas buddy. really gonna add in those banners.have tried the hair braid and it doesnt look as appealing as i thought it would. def going to look at shoulder guard.

And to Kev, thanks for the advise dude, gonna go with a new sword type, the yataghan, a cretan or greek sword. It has some beautiful lines. Will also keep the advise about quite contemplation going into battle. Love it!

A few new sketchy ideas. thinking of having a lot of swords attached to the tusks on his back. will def change the sword design to a yataghan instead of a katana style. See yataghan behind his back. Def want to design a sheath for it as well

The only thing better than a bad-ass, pissed off, magical armour wielding, vengeful warrior-emperor with a big sword, is a bad-ass, pissed off, magical armour wielding, vengeful warrior-emperor with LOTS of big swords !!!

Hoorah !

That looks really cool! Agree with LavenPillay!

Those swords are kickass, I like the design

hey there! Just a few updates. some pics of my pre-zbrush meshes. Still got a lot of fine tuning to do before going into zbrush and I still have to do low res swords. Big thanks to Rob Gowans for the amazing workflow! I really appreicate it bud! Following his advise of keeping the pre-zbrush meshes as square as possible (which I still have to do, ahahahahah).

I will be out of commission for an entire week guys. I am going for an eye operation. Hopefully everything goes well and I will be back to work on Monday for my next post(dont have internet at home!). But i will still try to get some work done during the week.

hey guys, i'm back after my eye surgery. got some work done. not enough though. Done some zbrushing on the head. Not sure which head to use though. I dont really like the closed eyes because he does'nt look appealing at all. Also thinking of changing his main pose. Crits and comment please.

03 March 2008, 11:56 AM
hey man, looking good, I like the elephant armour theme you running with. would like to see what you do with the armour on his back. I agree with LavenPillay about the shoulder guards.

just some suggestions, maybe make a cool elephant tattoo starting from the shoulder, and the trunk wraps around his arm. Also some kickass gauntlets might look cool, keep the updates coming!!! :scream:

03 March 2008, 09:35 PM
Hey, nice one Arkhain! Tattoo would be wicked ! And slightly different from the usual snake or dragon tattoo. ;)

03 March 2008, 03:00 PM
Hey guys. Did some zbrushing on the elephant armour last night. Still got a lot of changes and extra bits to add, like the decorative bits and detail. I think the elephant looks too angry at the moment. Want to make him look more serene.

Arkaine and Lav: thanks a lot guys, really appreciate the advice. Gonna def put in some guantlets and elephant tatoos! Really hope I can make it to the texturing bit!

03 March 2008, 03:12 PM
Hey Mahen ,

Your characater is looking awesome!
The detail is really nice. :)

I was just wondering if you are having any prolems with the Tri/poly count.
I checked my basemesh, and its over.
I havent used normal mapping before so i have no idea what the results are like on a really low poly mesh.

I assume u can sub div really heavy in zbrush and then use that map on the low version.

Just battling to get "some" decent detail with my low res version.

Let me know if u have any advice or suggestions.

03 March 2008, 02:17 PM
Heres more detailing on my elephant armour. Gonna add alot more detail like wrinkles around the eyes, some scratches or battle scars and obviously more hindu decorative elements. Do u guys think I should keep the armour flawless because the armour is holy. Maybe it should never scar?

03 March 2008, 03:38 PM
Hello there! Yes, I have been out of it for quite a while! Heres an update. And yes I know, I'm still modelling! There are some days when I cant work on it at all, but heres the stuff anyway. I need some advice as well guys. When do u guys actually pose your 3D models. Do u guys make modelling tweaks after posing so that the model best suits the camera?

Thats a sheath for his sword. Probably never gonna see it!
And here's his jean pants! ahahahahahahaha
Some new details added to his elephant armour

A bit of a decor piece that I am adding to the armour. If u have a look at the drawings, its in there above his nipples.

Thanks guys. Gonna try hard to finish my character for the deadline. Things are looking quite bleak for me now though. ahahahahahahaha
