View Full Version : DW III - 3d - Danexmurder - Singebeard

Hello Everyone, I'm new to CG society. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming dominance war. I've just started getting some ideas down on paper. I'd love to hear some feedback.
I'm doing a Dwarven Warlord with Fire Artifacts. At the moment the idea is that he'll have a huge hammer he uses to fight the metal monsters coming through the void. I'm also playing around with the idea of giving him an anvil artifact as well. He could then use the hammer and anvil in cojunction to forge new weapons for his troops out of the body parts of his slain enemies.
Anyway, here is a preliminary sketch. Feedback is much appreciated!

Allright, looks like my first post finally dropped. I'm looking forward to some good critiques. I just started working on the 3d model tonight. I'll have an update of the 3d and possibly some more 2d stuff in the next day or so.

Sweet man! Thanks for joining the War we need a Dwarf that can burn some faces off and smash some CPUs in.
I defiantly can see him go in Warhammer 40k direction with armor is concerned with the Huge pieces of armor that are simple but create a interesting silhouette at the same time. Plus the shoulder pads a bit more and get something going on the legs and accessories his armor. You have 9000 tris to use I donít want to see it all put on to his beard ;)
So far your Dwarven Warlord proportions seems to appear to be human, nothing really Dwarf like (You already know this ;b). I think its either a torso not being squat and short or the head not being slightly larger. At least its not World of Warcraft Dwarf Huge ::shudders::
Ohhh I forgot to add your entry link on GA.org is not working. Seems to be a bad copy and paste job. (I was going to do a QA bug write up but I need to get to drawing :b)
Link to the entry page with you'r entry in it.

Crap, is there anyway to fix that link issue? Do I need to email someone and get them to reset my account there?

Ok this is a bit unituitive but I think I found a way to get to the help form.
- Log in at http://www.gameartisans.org/contests/events/3/team3/view_entries_all_100.html
- Select "Join Dominance War" Button
- This will take you to the same screen with the fill out bubbles
- Now the 3D entry are replaced with "The Categories you joined: Game 3D Art "
- Select the Gold font "Game 3d Art" text
- This will take you to your entry page.
on the left of the screen is a "- For help, please fill out this form > Help Form"
- Select it and a pop up widow for the help will be ready for you to use.
Hope this helps

Sent in my help form. Hopefully that'll take care of it. Anyway, some 3d stuff will be up soon.

Ok, Here's a quick update. I've started roughing out the forms of the head. For the time being I'm working on getting the proportions down and the overall feel for how I want him to look. I'll be putting him in zbrush soon to push and pull some points around and to get everything looking the way I want.
I usually jump back and forth between max and zbrush several times until I get the basemesh formed exactly the way I want.
Anyway, here's the first 3d stuff for Singebeard so far.

Looks like its time for another update. I roughed out the shapes of the body tonight. The topology isn't anywhere near complete. It's mostly some lines sliced across the body to give me an idea of how some of the muscles will eventually lay. I'm still not sure about the overall bulk of his body. I don't think I realized exactly what the task was going to be like trying to make sense out of dwarf anatomy. At the moment I'm afraid the proportions almost look childish. So, suggestions are more than welcome.

Well guys, I've done a lot of work to the body proportions for Singebeard. I've also done a model overpaint to flush out my ideas for his armor more. He's a warrior/smith so I've only armored one arm. This way he'll have plenty of dexterity with his hammer arm. Feedback would be very much appreciated!

Looks like a great interpretation of a classic Dwarf character - I like the idea of him creating new weapons out of the fallen machines, I'd like to see how you could show this aspect of his character visually

I've nearly finished all the modeling for Singebeard. I have to do some attatchment's for his hammer and stein. I also want to give him a pair of tongs and maybe a basket or satchel for carrying ingots and raw weapon and armor parts forged from the metal demons' bodies. I'm still not sure about the anvil thing. I'm going to model that soon and see how that looks. I'm hoping to get sculpting on him by this weekend. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Any Critiques so far?

Hey guys, I have a small update here. I've mostly been working on Uvs and whatnot lately, but I went ahead and created his anvil artifact and the rest of his blacksmithing implements, as well as a few tweaks to his belt and armor. Now that you can see the way his outfit is going to look feedback would be appreciated. I'm not quite sure how I'm going to attatch the anvil to him yet or if that is the final position I want for it. Anyway, critiques are very welcome. Thank you!

I really like him. Especially the stuff he has attached to his belt... so he can fix his armor after or during battle.
Do you plan to add details on via normal maps? The area of the straps on his torso really could need some more details .... for example wrinkes and scratches.
In your first concept sketch he is looking much more angy and aggressive .... shure you will pose him like that ... but i also would model the face a littlebit more angry.... eyebrows a lil bit down eyebrows down.
A wider Upper Torso and Shoulder area could add some more "power" to him.

Thank you for the feedback! I plan to add a good deal of high-rez detail to the straps and other pieces of armor in zbrush. The same goes for the face, once I get into into zbrush I'm going to spend a good deal of time making sure the face is asymmetrical and that his personallity really comes across.

I'm still working on Singebeard when I get a chance. I havn't had as much time as I'd like lately, but I finally started zbrushing. I'm just starting to work out some of the forms of the face and trying some different techniques for the facial hair. Nothing too major to report. Comments/crits welcome.

I don't think I'm going to have this done by the deadline, but I plan to keep working on this character anyway. I've grown fond of him and plan to see it through to the end. I'm still working through some of the facial structure. This is at a subdiv 3.
