02 February 2008, 09:30 PM

Tlaloc is the immortal lord of darkness. He gather energy from his enemies, absorbing their souls, condemning them to eternal death. This energy is used to protect and support his allies forces, or even to restore their health and summon demons to aid them in battle.

The Soul Crusher is the main weapon of Tlaloc. This artifact absorbs and annihilates the souls of all creatures that surround him within a long range. They cannot be returned to life with reincarnation or resurrection spells.

-Is able to drain life of organic and demonic creatures
-Have the ability to summon and control demons in combat
-Can return to life summoning dark forces
-Long range damage capability
-Fast healing

-His power is harmless against undead creatures
-Medium armor protection

Nice work so far. I like all teh detail on the breastplate and the face. Given the details of this challenge, I'd imagine you could add to his list of weaknesses that his power might be useless against robots, too. But oh well, there'll be plenty of opponents from other forums to drain life from.
Good luck!

03 March 2008, 08:32 AM
Hey Fabio, nice to see you on the challenge, for sure a great warrior on the powerful lines of the dark side of CG society :D

Really cool concept my friend, like a lot the design of the Tlaloc's weapon, ultra cool!!. I think the tlaloc´s head looks a bit "ligther", perhaps a more masive skull, only a comment :) Great work my friend. Cheers!! (y empezamos de nuevo con las cervezas y el tequila :D ... y me gustó eso del nombre de Tlaloc, paso de dios de la lluvia a señor de la oscuridad, me gusta :) )

03 March 2008, 07:43 PM
gerudir: Thanks man.. I'm working in detailed concepts before to start modeling

walrus: Thanks Michael, I agree, one of his weaknesses is that his power is harmless against robots and machines, too, but it can be effective against creatures or humans who operate them;) Good luck too!

Ferx: Hi my friend...I'm happy you are liking... I will keep in mind your suggestion.

03 March 2008, 08:14 PM
I start with the base mesh in max, trying that has proper topology for mesh deformation

03 March 2008, 09:06 PM
the concepts are really great desins, but i dont understand the idea of your character so well...

may be an undead?

03 March 2008, 06:57 AM
Hey Fabio, really cool man! Like a lot the "peak skull" design on your character, a relly original and great design! :D The first stage on your mesh looks really nice. Cant wait to see more updates on your concept my friend! Cheers

03 March 2008, 10:40 PM
daelon: Thanks man...yes, you are right, this is an undead creature with summoning powers.

Ferx: Hey Fernando, thanks again... skull is a design by a friend of mine helped me with the concept. I hope to keep progress updates until finish.

03 March 2008, 05:43 AM

03 March 2008, 04:21 AM
Just a quick update, here's the base mesh so far...

03 March 2008, 08:04 AM
Hey Fabio, looks great. I like a lot the chest design, really original, cool. One thing, more a wish than a critic :D, the spikes on the head perhaps can be in an out angle (dont know , 45°? :D) for a more agressive head, only a wish :D Great work my friend !! Cheers

03 March 2008, 05:00 PM
Thanks my friend. I indeed, the spikes' position was already improved...

03 March 2008, 05:19 AM

Here is the base mesh almost finished
Next step: detailed sculpting...

03 March 2008, 09:35 AM
Hi Maxter, few critiques from me...
your last render looks alot like coat-stand. Shoulders are realy weird, too sharp maybe.
Whole cloak thing seems like it's been turbosmoothed 3/4 times. And falloff map doesn't look so cool either, try to fix it with lights.
Characters nose extention looks kinda funny, figure out something with it :)

Sorry for harsh critiques - no harm intended just trying to help out:)

Best of luck!

03 March 2008, 05:49 PM
These are hard crits for a base mesh in progress! This is just a base mesh showing the overall shape, not a finished model.... lights, materials and smoothing are just ways to show progress in modeling stage.

Anyway, I will have in mind your comment about the shoulders...for the next stage, thanks!

03 March 2008, 08:14 PM
I really wanna see this finished. The the upper body looks nice, but I really wonder how you are going to define his legs and stuff. It's a good work indeed.

My Dominance War III

03 March 2008, 12:12 AM
Thanks Kenzo, I'm glad you are liking my character! I'm working on body stuff, so I'll post some of those soon!

03 March 2008, 12:28 AM
Hey Fabio, really great work!, I like a lot the armor on Tlaloc :D cool design on it. The hands looks awesome and dangerous :D My only comment is about tlaloc shoulders, i think are a bit large on relation with the armor shoulders :) (but looks nice ) Superb work !! Cheers my friend and ready for the aguradiente and tequila !!

03 March 2008, 06:00 AM

I'm trying to improve a bit the hands... here is a new design for the forearm, now it's exposed, please let me know your opinon about this...

03 March 2008, 07:56 PM
Many thanks for your kind words, Fernando! ... I was not very happy with the hands and I worked a bit to improve them, I hope these looks better...

Final Concept Sheet

04 April 2008, 07:47 PM
Very cool concept sheet Maxter!
I really dig the weapon, looking really cool. Bit of a shame you drew the weapon as seen from the top, I thought at first it was some kind of spear.

Good idea to expose more of the of his forearm. Is the yellow going to be bone too?
You could try and see which part of his body you could expose more. A bit more bare bones would look cool I think :)

04 April 2008, 01:03 AM
Hey Fabio, wooww really cool improvement on the hands and arms. The spiral style bone around arm, looks awesome, i like a lot that idea , great :D. The final concept sheet looks great, and i only waiting to see your final render for Tlaloc  (you are close my friend! ) Cheers!!

04 April 2008, 05:23 PM
Art2: Hey thanks man, initially, I had thought in a staff-class weapon, but I changed it to this one, a bit more agressive artifact I'm working in this model...about the forearms, yes, all the yellow color parts will be bone. Glad you're liking it:thumbsup:

Ferx: I hope to finish it in time too, deadline is fast approaching and there is still some work to do... Thanks again my friend, for all the support!
