View Full Version : DWIII - 3D - Mawk - The Invoker Pyre
02 February 2008, 03:41 AM
Human / Invoker / Fire-Lava
His power comes from the relic he possesses. A relic/weapon too powerful for anyone to keep for too long because it will eventually consume the host in flames. This relic was forged by the spark that ignited the earth's core. Once a person touches the relic, he/she can never let go. This mage new this when he touched the relic. He was the one chosen by his order to posses it after the head of his guild became fully consumed by fire. This character uses all his magical ability and willpower to keep the flames at bay, knowing that one day he too will become fully consumed.
Here is a crude comp of some reference images i scanned in from a few books. paint over comming soon, along with relic concept.

Little update. started blocking out this bad boy from the head down. I think i need to make his arms a little thicker and more heroic looking. Increasing the size of the lats as well. Added some extra shoulder armor that wasnt in the concept :P I am already deviating.

wow man, amazing job. Your concepts are really good !

Thanks man. although i am still searching for something that is really going to make my silhouette really pop. I dont know if its going to be the weapon or possibly a huge shoulder piece for him. Any thoughts would be cool.

why aren't you doing 2d!?
not saying the 3D start isn't bad....but man those concepts are awsome!

Wow man, very good model, the sketch is awesome!

Another Update. Still working on that shoulder piece. I think i am going to bust out some silhouette sketches tomorrow, but i figured id still detail him up a little bit while i brainstormed. I think ill do a mudbox pass tomorrow and get some details in a few pieces.
Redmonkey, thanks for the compliment i appreciate it. I dont do many character models, so this is my way of making me finish one :P I am an environment artist by trade, trying to break in the other direction a little bit.
AlexMarik, Thanks man. I cant wait to see your dual blade action. Your sketch reminds me of the guy in that one indiana jones movie where he was whipping around his sword and Jones just pulled out his six shooter and shot him. But that guy was still sweet as hell.

Wow man, this is awesome, great model so far!
And I agree with you, my character seems rather to the man in the movie, but there a lot of work yet, maybe I'll change some things or a lot of things, hehehe!
I will put an update today, take a look there!

nice concept and model man
03 March 2008, 01:20 PM
holy shit!
thats all i have to say about this one so far. the model is turning out deadly man.
do you know what to do for his weapon/artifact yet?
03 March 2008, 02:03 PM
Looking really nice so far! I like how you've integrated the logo on the cape rather subtly, but still clearly readable. Your initial post talks a lot about the artifact, but is it that small thing at his waist? Let's see some concepts for this big flamey weapon! It sounds interesting, and your character name is great - very evocative. Good luck!

Havent been able to update it much this week. been working 13 hour days :(
Somu, Thanks! I appreciate any praise i get :P
Redmonkey, I think i have an idea of what i want the artifact to look like. I am thinking some sort of grotesque staff, maybe curved. havent decided really
Walrus, glad you caught the logo stylings. I am going to put a more blatant version on the character somewhere i might just work it into the texture of the cloth.
Here is 1 idea for some staff details. More to come as i work on it this weekend.

Update. Mudbox pass on the face, and some of the accessories. along with a few other areas. I am thinking about changing the dress portion of the robe. it billows to much. Anyway here it is along with the staff concept.
