This is my first post, and first contest - one of my esteemed collegues talked me into participating. Seems like it will be a fun ride regardless of the outcome!

Anyway, this is just the first concept that flew into my head - more to come and then I'll decide on which one to really flesh out.

Race/Species: Dryad/Derg
Class: Stalker
Artifact: Vegetation

A few new thumbnail concepts that I did late last night, I thought of a bunch more afterwards so I'll try to get those done and posted today. At this point I already have favorites but I'm just brainstorming anything I can to get something different than I'm used to.

I like your idea of having a treant stalker- not typical of what we would expect.

I also dig the centaur (5) silhouette as well. not a bad warlord either (1).

looking forward to seeing more!

Another batch of concept silhouettes - a few more humanoid characters this time. I don't normally do creature and monster type critters so this has been a nice excercise for that but I always seem to come back home.

I'm hoping to narrow things down and focus on detailing one character by next week. Comments and suggestions are welcome. Let me know what you think!

So I picked one and ran with some small details and background - She is a Darkness/Void Clericon that uses her blade artifact to 'sacrifice' another being and draw their life force and useable parts from them. She can then redistribute to all the good boys and girls in need. Take from the rich, etc.
She's kind of a walking apothecary - belts full of vials and containers filled with fluids and whatnot.
This is just my first pass at detail and color roughing -will likely do a number of variations. I thought about making the underskirt from sewn together skin as well.

I may mess with a couple of the other silhouettes as well until I find one that really gels.

I really like the direction you are headed with this - even though my strongest liking was to #9 and #12. I really like your reference to her being a "walking apothecary" - brilliant! I think you could definitely push and refine this concept further - not only showing the various vials and bottles but maybe also bags of misc powder, books of ingredients, etc. So far - so good :) Let me know when you have another update

Just an update on where things stand so far - brainstorming costume ideas and color schemes / variations. Most of the accessories and small details Im doing on the side to determine how they all attach and work with the rest of the look - belts, backpack, and whatever the final Artifact turns out to be...

I'll post some of those soon, likely with a couple more design ideas as well as her background info/history.

agh normally i dont venture too far from Game Artisans but i had to post here! ^_^ looks great, i really dig the one in the center with the insignia as part of the armour. keep going man! oh and i also like the 3rd chick cuz theres a bit more skin showing. ^_^

Think I finalized her look - mostly. This is just the base to work off as I up the resolution and add the actual detail to her. She is also sans accoutrements here, mainly her host of bottles and instruments that she will carry herself in addition to the stash on her 'cart'. There will likely be a few other things added along the way as she is detailed out, but I don't think any further major changes are in store.

Bio time:

Since the fall and loss of advancements 1000 years ago medicine and healing has taken a step backwards and once again rests in the hands of shamans, witchdoctors, and clerics to tend to the ill or injured. Many natural remedies are sought out making alchemists and herbalists important and respected members of society.
While nature has it's uses for medicine there is another source of energy that many are hesitant to tap into as it can cause more damage than good - possibly at the loss of the soul.

Morana is a Coven-priestess of the Hermetic Order of Arcane Shadows. As a darkness Clericon her order has learned to harness their abilities not just to heal, but to tap into the netherworld to absorb the life force from living things. While this may seem contrary to a healer profession they are able to drain small amounts from the life around them and 'redirect' it into the desired host. It is become common for the members of their order to absorb some of the energy into themselves to prevent illness, disease, and even aging from keeping them from their duties. They also learn the arts of alchemy and witchcraft to assist in their roles as healers.
When a initiate priestess comes of age and is granted their Soul-Gem they must participate in a binding ceremony which serves three purposes: Advancement as an Acolyte in the Order, Grants the privilege of a personal Soul-Gem which is bound to them ensuring that only the initiate can use it, and assigns a minion of Darkness to act as a servant/guardian.
It is believed that a minion / familiar is actually bound to each Soul-Gem, as the gems are elements of the netherworld itself - conduits for the power that each Witch/ priestess wields. The minions vary in shape and form and can serve a number of purposes depending on the needs of it's owner. The minons serve willingly and are fiercely obedient to their masters, placing only the life of their owner over their own. To those beings that are attuned to the Darkness they will be able to see the ethereal chain/tether that binds the minion to it's master. It is not a physical binding and therefore is not restricted to a certain distance or limited by walls and other physical obstacles but will appear to pass through solid objects in a constant connection with their master.
A minion is permenantly bound in a symbiotic relationship only released in the death of the master - which results in the death of the minion as well. Each time the Soul-Gem is used, a small portion of the life energy absorbed is transferred to the minon as a 'payment' for it's service.

I came up with a LOT more to go with this but I think I'll save the book for another project =).

Here is the current shot of the finalized (for now) look of Morana. Again, there are still a few small items (bottles, pouches, etc..) to hang from her belt and whatnot but I didn't want to hide too much of the modelling form behind small details at this point and a lot of those items will go onto the concept sheet as well.
I decided to do a 3D version of her once all this is over as well - either in the computer or actual sculpey if not both. It's been fun designing these characters, seems a shame to not follow through and have them realized in some way.

Thoughts, comments, complaints welcome.

Update on the beauty shot and the hopefully final versions of the ortho and concept sheets. Color roughs and basic composition are in and there is now a little less than a day to finish detailing the beauty pic and alter the others before I call it or pass out. Coming along though. It's been a fun ride, but I'll be happy when it stops. =P

I'm posting my final beauty shot here just to say I'm done - I've actually been done since noon and since that time have been trying to get in touch with the Game Artisan / Dominance Wars admins to get a simple password reset so I can actually submit my final entries....still nothing in the last 8 f*ing hours of trying. I've come this far and completed on time and while I didn't expect to place considering the competition I've seen I would have at least liked the opportunity to try.
Being foiled by technical issues outside of my control is the most frustrating thing ever after all this. If all else fails I'll just reenter under a different login name and link to this thread so it's obvious I'm not trying to cheat by entering twice. One would be an empty entry with no submission anyway.

Oh well. Here's the final just in case.

nice work! that sucks about your password reset glitch, but at least you got it complete well before the deadline. must have a been a long night for you Friday...

Hey, thanks for the nice commenton my thread, you made my day! I feel cheered up and will endeavour to get a last bunch of supporting stuff up. Still putting together my 3d sheets too as if the deadline was next week. Just want to complete it all rather than leave it as is. Your stuff really changed since last time I looked. Really cool final images, love what you did incorporating the logo into her costume especially. The beauty shot is cool too, really ominous atmosphere. I admire anyone who can draw women this well, I find monsters far easier!
