A way for me to slowly prepare for war:D

Has got totaly nothing to do with what I'll come up with later on, and don't really know what it is as I didn't think too much while dropping some CGS colors.
But wanted to share it with ya guys anyway!!!

02 February 2008, 10:41 AM
Nice concept:) But then UR character won't have any expression, Attitude, or may be you can just show 2 glowing eyes inside, just an suggestion:)
All the best for this challenge:thumbsup:

02 February 2008, 08:07 PM

Great to "see" you dood. Good luck...looks like you didn't finish the last one either (that shows how long I have been away!) I really liked the little girl concept. Mind you I like all your work...too talented!

Current concept is rather cool also...time to review mine...after work of course....;)

On important issues....have you tried the "verboten frucht" sorry can't remember the Belgian so slipped into German....;) at least it is closer than english!

Update yer signature....

02 February 2008, 10:02 PM
Been brainstroming a bit on my way to home today and even if lots of thing still aren't clear for me yet, I start to get a feeling about this creature.

I'll proberly head for a African/Jamaican deadly dreadlock voodoo master kind a guy muted with (black) panther.
All very black, black armor,etc,etc..going to use the cgsociety colors.
Then white paintings on his face and/or body.

Maybe kinda undead(not sure about that)

Not sure either but was thinking about a spear or a bow and arrows charged with thousand of screaming souls(a really scary sound of 1000's of souls screaming when this weapon floats through the air, on his way to his victims).
Once the arrow/Spear hits his victim or an object near him...the victims or the creatures near the spear/arrow are directly located by these lost souls who will come to search him/her/them and take them with them to a place nobody ever came back from...

Still a lot of things to think and work out there..but they will proberly clear up once I'll start doodling, i hope :P

Yep, well ,just wanted to reserve my place there lol...haha

Cheers buddies!!!
Happy War!

02 February 2008, 01:33 PM
Yap, aint got much time to explain much more about this guy as in my post here above.
Gotta get back to work...:scream::sad::D

Things are getting clearer slowly in my head...

For the moment all I can say is that 1000'nds of tortured & lost souls seems to appear each time this guy is around...
His staff/artifact contains dead, dead in his purest form...
It will be about unimaginable and unknown fear...

Hope I can tell you some more tonight..
Cheers buddies!

02 February 2008, 01:38 PM
I love this concept... Can't wait to see more :bounce:
Wish you luck and neverending inspiration mate.

02 February 2008, 02:24 PM

02 February 2008, 11:48 PM
A Harpoon Cadaver Kebab? How come that never ocurred to me?!? ;)
Your last concept is really cool! I like the armor of the bottom left dude, and the harpoon of the big one!

02 February 2008, 01:19 AM
incredible concept! can't wait to see the progress

02 February 2008, 07:40 AM
Hey thx for the comments guys&gals!:)

A Harpoon Cadaver Kebab? How come that never ocurred to me?!? ;)

HaHAHAHA, you killed me there!!!
Made me wanna eat a kebab by the way!

The Staff contains a lot of souls represented by all this faces.
If the staff absorb's new souls, the faces start screaming and their eyes will light up.

But I was thinking about a thing.
Do our creatures have to battle machines only on the other side of the wormholes?
Because if they do, dark & soul catching artifacts are not really a great help, are they?

02 February 2008, 09:20 AM
Our characters are suppoed to battle the metal monsters and slaughter opposing forces along the way.
Only one warrior will remain, and we all know it will be one representing the CGS realm :D

You could stick some enemy logo's on those kebabs, heheheh...

02 February 2008, 09:59 AM
And here I was considering doing a centaur-style thing as well, and then you come up with a concept that can't be beat. :D Looks awesome, mate. Looking forward to seeing this one progress.

02 February 2008, 01:46 PM
those concepts are great. i'll mark this as one to watch :D

02 February 2008, 01:54 PM

02 February 2008, 10:17 PM

02 February 2008, 03:06 AM
Thx guys for your kind replies!

Abner man!!!how are you my friend!Happy you join the war man!Hope to see you soon!
We will!!hehe

Although I'm almost sure I'll go with the Shaman dark voodoo panther thing I would still really appreciate to have your opinion about this one.

It's about "PAP" the Gorilla.
Pap is a Gorilla with a down syndrom. He lost his parents in the last war after some kinda nuclear bombs that fell from the sky.
THe last time Pap saw his mom he touched her with his hands and gave her a last kiss.

From then on his hands and face slowly changed into some kinda rock material...
Pap was doomed and was goind to die soon as he couldn't use his hands any longer to eat or drink.
When the birds found him unconsience on the ground, they started to feed him and make him drink...
That's how PAP survived.

PAPA was raised and feeded by birds, and PAP founded a roof in a old cardump where he growed up with the birds.

PAP soon learned that eversince the accident he had earned powers that allowed him to control the rock and earth.
His arms became indestructable rocksort bludgeons with runes graved in it and he hided his face with hand(bludgeon)painted masks(gasmask).PAP love painting.
PAP always have birds around him and you better do not touch these birds because you'll end up dead...

PAP can control the huge rockplates under the earth and make them tremble creating eartquakes!
Once all enemy are on the ground he finishes tyhem off with his huge bludgeon arms...

Often PAP takes
remembrances on his victimes to decorate himself and his cars...

____Whatta you think?
Which one you prefer?
Voodoo panther or PAP?

02 February 2008, 05:12 AM
Interesting concept, Remko. The upper half, especially the arms, are really cool, but the lower half looks like just plain old legs. What about going more gorilla-like for the lower parts, too? But overall, I like your centaur beast more. Good luck!

02 February 2008, 05:53 AM
Yeah that centaur looks more cool as compared to your recent concept. Both are looking good, so its your choice :). All the best:thumbsup:

02 February 2008, 08:20 AM
Gorilla Centaur Dark Voodoo Shaman dude! :bounce:
And keep the kebab stick.

02 February 2008, 08:30 AM
Yup, these latest sketches are fresh. Some kinda magical ape with a plague-mask is pretty much an aweesome idea. The Minotaur thing was cool, but a bit overplayed IMO.

Keep it up!

02 February 2008, 07:19 PM
Love your ideas! Gonna grab some if you dont mind :)

02 February 2008, 08:06 PM
Voodoo panther for me. I Liked the staff of death!

02 February 2008, 08:24 PM
yop Remko. 2 nice sketch, and just one choice.. for me the black voodoo kebab panthers:) .
Your gorilla is looking pretty good, the second and the third head design are very cool man...but nope, black panther for me. definitively!

Go go, baba bobo is waiting for you !!:)

02 February 2008, 09:41 PM

Just an overall favourite! :scream: :bounce:

02 February 2008, 11:39 AM
Suh-weet !!!

That reminds me a bit of Khimari from Final Fantasy X. Mayb wanna check that out for more inspiration, cos that race is also tribal.

The Flork
03 March 2008, 04:02 PM

that bottom left one is magical! done deal do that one lol

03 March 2008, 05:27 AM
Hey Remko, panda warrior :D Incredible sketches and concepts my friend, I like a lot your "centaur/lion" style warrior, really cool!! And waiting for more updates! Cheers my friend  ( I hope have some time to try this war  )

03 March 2008, 02:11 PM
Awsome sketches. I do agree with The Flork, the left bottom sketch has strenght and pride and it has the aura of an warrior. Keep it up and goodluck!

03 March 2008, 02:29 PM
Sinister!!! Can't wait to see more updates!

03 March 2008, 04:44 PM
love it.. such strength and anger. i would pee and poo in my pants at the same time if i saw this guy irl and I'm sure ppl on the other forums did that already.
i hope you will stick with the thick chin if you continue with this. i didn't like the stylised line running down the jaw in the previous post. made him look a bit feminine.. well that might not really be the word I'm looking for. but, more aware of his looks. last chin is great though.

03 March 2008, 07:05 PM
I loved the sketch who had the shining lines in his body.

you will keep this Idea?

good work!
(see my 2d, i will love you comment)

03 March 2008, 12:09 PM
Thx guys for your replies, mostly appreciated!:)
Been a some more time to comment and work on this now again.
Kickass army rising here!Whoooooo!
I assembled some sketches I made in my breaks lately.

Still hesitating between a quadiped and a bi-ped summoning undead kinda panther spirits chasing on souls all around them.
Doing this with daggers made out of the horns Uuka snatched of satan's head himself
Sketching and sketching to slowly get into my character's skin.
Hopa i can start my final pose this WE.
C & C mostly welcom!!!

03 March 2008, 01:08 PM
Hey man, you're so good at drawing those fierce feline bodies that you MUST keep him quadrupedal. Your drawings a really cool and I know how hard it is to keep updating when you have a full time job.

Bottom right sketch looks like it's on it's way to a final pose.

Hey, who's that little cutey in the bottom left hand corner huh?

03 March 2008, 02:29 PM
Really good OKMER well at first I thought that u made you mind on the kind of creature that you going to work on, so was surprised to see more sketches. But hey it feels good to rework the concept. for this time I was convinced at first with the half-half character but now i think as a character in the game it would be cool to have him on two legs and giving this ability to summon the undead tiger. But again when I look at the half-tiger character I feel its different maybe much stronger :scream:

waiting for more

03 March 2008, 02:35 PM
You're untouchable champ

I really like the top left setup. There is a good connection between the man and beast with there anatomy and poses. They both show strength and speed, so they form a great team.

03 March 2008, 03:13 PM
absolutley stunning

03 March 2008, 03:56 PM
you had the perfect character from the start that centaur or whatever it is cause he is not half horse,is half tiger right? looks so powerfull, please leave him on 4, please

03 March 2008, 04:17 PM
Hi, Remko! Great looking stuff so far! I agree with Nathan: For the catlike creature, stick with the quadraped. That pose at the bottom right is fantastic - the subdued tones and hint of blue really spark! That's your money pose right there... only perhaps raise the arms a bit so that they're not perfectly horizontal. Angles shapes rather than perfectly horizintal or vertical shapes will make your shot look more dynamic and keep him from looking a little stiff. Good luck!

03 March 2008, 06:15 PM
omg!! that helmet or whatever that is, really impressed me. I would love to model that....amazing designs. Keep 'em coming :)

03 March 2008, 07:48 PM
Finally some updates!

Keep the quad black panther centaur.

Great sketching man.

03 March 2008, 12:05 PM
Keep the quadiped version! That looks much more powerful.
Your work is stunning btw. Keep it up!

03 March 2008, 12:39 PM
impressive works, i'll be longing to see your final.

03 March 2008, 01:57 PM
wow, fantastic! go for the quad man, and I really like the daggers. impressive, keep it up!

03 March 2008, 05:49 PM
sweet concepts, should definitely go for quad as long as its not horse

03 March 2008, 07:45 PM
Amazing concept! Your character is really cool.

Keep it up!

03 March 2008, 02:56 AM
He Remko, simply amazing my friend. Love the whole concept. Great idea on summoning the biped with the quadruped. I agree with Mike about horizontal position of the arms, a minor problem :D I think the pose with the arc is really interesting, i think can be a great weapon. Again, awesome work like always my friend! Cheers!! ( Im preparing the tequila and beers :D)

03 March 2008, 10:00 PM
I'll need some time to catch up with your thread but it rocks! I like your sketching style so much!!
As many of the fellas I think 4 legs is more suitable for him. Your Satan's horns blades concept is really neat, Hellboy ripped off his own horns to stab a demon but this is even cooler and makes more sense to me.

I like the central extending arms pose, it could be cool if you show him also standing in four crouching a bit with the legs wider apart and a lower center of gravity, like preparing to pounce. I don't know, I think cats look so good that way :D

Awww and that little cub with the butterfly is so cute.....

Keep rockin' Cap.

03 March 2008, 02:32 AM
Hi Remko, I am finally catching up to all the GREAT work you'd done , its amazing the colors and concepts I like them so much, I still remember the last challenge for your speedy time for painting to get the deadline done!.... But I am sure you will end up in the best places in the competition! So keep posting for better learning experiences! haha!:scream:

04 April 2008, 10:32 AM
Simply Amazing! Great stuff!

04 April 2008, 04:13 AM
Finaly made it to liberate a bit of time to finish this.
(Well actually tommorow that's it,haha.)
I regret that (often:p)this happens just before the deadline and that so I didn't have the time to be here with you guys.I'll bring the beer once we're through the finish line!

Normaly I just couldn't finish DW and so was it.
Lot of work and tons of things happened lately.
HEy, gonna be dad again!!!Yeehaaaaa:bounce:
So happy, so proud.

I'm working on the beauty pose.C&C very welcom!
Almost there but still lots of things to refine although I would like to keep this painterly feeling about it.
Almost got the concept and modelsheet also.

Finish 11h59 eastern time...Am I right if fot us guys in Europe this means 05h00 sunday morning?

04 April 2008, 04:52 AM
This is looking great, Remko! I love the subtle colors with small splashes of red: Very stylish, very effective. Speaking of splashes of red, what about some on his sword? Right now, I feel that the sword and tail are getting lost on the background. They don't seem lost in mist as much as just semy-transparent (well, mostly trasparent!)You could just make them darker, but some red on the sword might be a nice way to make it pop and tie it in with the small amounds of red elsewhere.

Speaking of the sword, what happened to the twin blades? I liked those, and I liked the magical effect when they were sending lightning into his body. I liked his eyes glowing eith the color of the lgihtning, too - here they seem kind of subdued.

Anyhow, great work, and thanks for your kind post in my thread (even thoguh I've already submitted and it's too late to make corrections.) :shrug:Good luck!

p.s. ooops, just re-read and saw the part about having another child. Congratulations! How many is this for you? I've still got just the one, but he's a handful all by himself! :) Anyhow, that's great news!

04 April 2008, 07:31 AM
Nice work. Great you can finish this. :wip: For me this war ended in a pathetic surrender...

And congrats for the new child ;)

04 April 2008, 07:41 AM
Very nice start there Remko!

Congrats with the second one and be prepared, you'll have less and less time to finish these kind of contests :D Like me, I gave up yesterday...

04 April 2008, 10:48 PM
wow, thats cool man! Good luck on finishing this, keep it up!

The Flork
04 April 2008, 10:54 PM
Sick dude! one thing i noticed right off was the cat hand comming twords us. you should make it raised and the claws comming at us! right now its like a "how do you do" hand haha we want "im a rip your face off" han ;-D

is he not gonna have the back mount thing any more? i liked those wips

other than that looks awesome, i like the cat armor a lot.

04 April 2008, 08:36 AM

04 April 2008, 10:57 AM

04 April 2008, 02:38 PM
Fantastic!! congratulations man, thats awesome. I love your work on the sheets!
All the best buddy, and good luck! cheers mate!

04 April 2008, 02:42 PM
Totally awsome! I like the stylish presentation of your entry :)
Cheers man!

04 April 2008, 03:34 PM
:o ....... jesus murphy.....this is a beautiful thing! seriously! I love the pose and his front spikes. A very strong contender this one, congrats to you!!

04 April 2008, 05:21 PM
I like the way you draw animal body types, they looks really strong BUT why all the warrior designs have blood to looks more powerful? I have adolescent kids and I really hope the way in how the young generation sees the life about the real path to achieve the power completely disappears, from so many bloods hands on this world. I hope some day this awful concept disappear. We dont need more of this, please, think about it. And the animals are a beautiful creation, why to deform them to get more power?

04 April 2008, 09:07 PM
Fantastic finish. Good luck :)

04 April 2008, 09:11 PM
Congrats on finishing Remko!
Looking sweet.

04 April 2008, 02:24 AM

04 April 2008, 02:13 PM
Amazing entry! One of the best Centaur - type characters I've ever seen, he looks absolutely ferocious. You've got great talent. Best of luck in the competition

04 April 2008, 02:26 PM

Great job on your entry Okmer. The deapth of field on your pose image is a nice touch. A tad strong but it adds a nice sence of depth. He has read accents now where he had blue in your concpt sketches which I thought looked great. You also had some very nice sketches in post #83 that arrent included in you concept sheet. What made you think to make these changes? Nice work again and Good luck .

Final image looks so simple and logic, and very convinceing and artistic in same time... It is a pretty complex character, not so much in a ornamentical detail (though I liked spikes on his chest ;) ) but in anathomy/structure! Impressive!

Do you use anatomy reference for the skeleton concept art?

I love your work, you will be among the top here in this competition if not the best

05 May 2008, 01:48 PM
Yep, well so the war has ended.
Finaly :-) (timelines weren't the strongest part of this challenge, lol)
I ended up somewhere between place 21 and 50 and am just a bit sad we are simply in some kinda alphabetic classed list, without feedback.
Some huge works in there, just amazing.Don't agree with all the choices the jurys made but like Martin NIelssen said ofcourse this is very subjective and most of them are indeed very well deserved!!!I especially like the CGland entries!!!wowwww, killerstuff!
Although I was quit happy with my pic, right now I regret a bit I couldn't spend more time on my entry.Finaly I put it all together in the last 2 days before the "deadline"and unfortunately i think this is visible in the pic.
Ofcourse ending up in the top50 anyway is very cool and a honor.

I wanted to thank you all for your huge support that really keeps me going.
I hope to see you all back next year for another great experience & battle!
CHeers buddies!!!

Why did not you answer my question?

Do you use anatomy reference for the skeleton concept art?

05 May 2008, 04:47 PM
Yep I got this really nice anatomy book in which human and animals are showned from the bone to the skin.I really do recommand this book to everyone who's into drawing, painting, etc by the way.
(in French sorry)
I watch and observe this very well for a (long) moment, then close the book and start sketching.

Once my first sketches are done, I reopen the book to see if I was right.
if I wasn't i reobserve and restart till I'm happy with it.

If not, If I really need it I try to find some references on the net and then same thing, observing and then drawing.
THx for your repli again man!

05 May 2008, 05:29 PM
Hey man congratulations, your entry was one of my favourites , and I undestand what you feel, I also ended up somewhere below 20th place but at least we will recieve our Certificates and thats a great honor, see you on the next war.
By the way the link is in french how do I buy this ? Is there an english version of the book?

05 May 2008, 09:33 PM
HI Jorge!Thx man,I'm a gret fan of your entry too!
Don't know if this book exists in English, but I suppose so.
MAybe if you take the author you can find it back somewhere in English.

But on the other hand exept the prologue the entire book is made out of images. So no reading needed.
It's really excellent as beside the really complete anatomy of the human it also shows in a really very complete way a lot of animals, as the horse, monkey, pig, lion,etc,etc..
Hope to see you back again also next year!
