View Full Version : CgTalk Daily Sketch 1339 55 mn "The Idiot"
02 February 2008, 04:57 PM
You have 55 mn for your sketch. IF you go beyond the assigned time limit , you have to post WHATEVER you have done after the time has expired, along with the FINAL drawing.
Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
RESOLUTION : The image can have any aspect ratio up to 800 x 600
They can be done on any medium.
If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing, unless is it an integral part of the challenge.
You can post an entry at anytime for the topic presented on this thead BEFORE the voting thread for THE WEEK has been posted.
The artist also has to post total length of time it took and program used.
Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
The topics will be picked at random from the list on the TOPICS thread >>LINK<< (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php/?t=145003)
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.

This was just fun to make...20 min at most.

All right...so it's self-portrait. And, no, I do not need a therapist. I just figured that it was appropriate because at one time or another, everyone does something stupid and thinks those four words: "I'm such an idiot." So, thereís me. :)

Hey sneakingSneaker, thatís pretty nice for what I would imagine be an idiot. But it conveys well what you describe. Whatever idiotic youíve done, that big innocent smile makes it up for it. Nice sketch:thumbsup:
Here is something repulsive. Not that it looks like anything like me but I feel like that at late night when I keep browsing forums for no apparent reason instead of having a good night sleep.
20-30 min using Photoshop

Thanks, Okzorg! I was wondering whether my intent with that sketch came across, so I'm glad you understand. I am amused, however, that your sketch is actually more accurate than my self-portrait because I was doing that very thing last night! What kind of brush were you using?
In any case, I'm glad you were able to start posting. In your superman posts, you mentioned two things one regarding the time limit on the NTLs and what is defined as a sketch. The thing about going beyond the limit of no time limit is that you obviously cannot. Mr. Ortiz uses the same layout for every topic post so that's why the NTLs look a little odd at first. That sentence is mostly applicable to topic threads that have a time limit. I think when it's NTL, the purpose of that statement is to keep people from posting 30 WIPs instead of one sketch. That's not to say that you can't have multiple different entries (like three different sketches), but it keeps the thread from becoming a WIP thread if people are asked to post their final. This is good because weíd be hanging out in the WIP/2D section of cgtalk if thatís what we really wanted.
Regarding what a sketch is, well that's a little more difficult to address. I've concluded that a sketch is a piece of artwork that is either quick or not fully polished. Your piece for the superman post is acceptable because if you wanted, you could polish it even more. But, itís great the way it is. You'll start to notice that the NTL topics have more finished pieces than the others have just because there isn't a time limit. I still like the timed ones though because they can really push you to speed up your process while trying to maintain quality.
