View Full Version : animation regular walkcycle
So, i've just started on my walkcycle and by the looks of it i need a lot of help. I'm about to start AM in the spring and right now i'm trying to get a little better when i start. Anyways, any help with my walkcycle would be GREAT!! rip it up if need be.

The only thing that sticks out for me is that the left foot appears to "stick" for a couple frames at the end of the loop, as if that foot got caught on some fly paper. Also the up and down movement of the body does not change for the first and last frames. Looks like you're easing into the extreme on the last frame, but there's no ease from that pose at the start frame. Also I could be wrong because I'm only looking at the side view, but the hips appear to dip left (towards us in this view) more than they dip right.
Anyway, looks like a great start. Keep it up!

you have some joint popping on the right leg. the leg extends to far and pops into a straight position when it should be slightly bent. other than that and the comments of Kevin, its good. If you want to remove the "sticky" foot, you could try removing the last frame. The first and last frame may make sense to be the same pose if you're looping it. but you only need one frame at that pose be it the first or the last one. Also the popping I'm seeing may be that there is a subtle difference in joint positions between the first and last frame.
but just as a rule for myself i always try to keep at least one degree of bend in any joint, to prevent this "popping/snap" effect (unless I'm going for an extreme/tense pose). Or if there is a straight joint i try to ease the frames before and after to soften the pop.

yeah you may need to go in and strongarm that knee pop on 1's depending on the rig. those can be annoying sometimes. other than that and removing that last frame this looks pretty nice.
Thank you for the critique guys. I know it's been awhile as well since I last posted. But here is what I have done,
I'm getting really mad on the knees because it keeps poping. Any critique will be AWESOME! thank you again.

I like your progress...
the ik on the right foot on frame one is going too far and is creating the leg to completley straighten out and the knee is moving backwards and then on frame 2 it pops forward...creating a pop...i would have the leg just slightly not straighten out to fix this pop...
the right leg also stay up in front too long...you have it correct on the left leg...it is almost a complete linear thing once it hits the ground it should slide back like you have on left leg...it shouldn't favor the front...it looks like a limp otherwise...
it also appears that you have two 24 frames creating a pop on your loop...if you look at it the counter in corner doesn't change on last two frames...
the left foot going forward is coming down on last frame and then goes out on frame one ...and it is taking too long to get that left foot off the ground so i suggest getting the right foot out and flip that foot up and get that left foot almost off the ground picking up on frame 24...
lastly the torso should rotate in opposite directions of the hips..thats what caught my eye in the first place...anyways...when the right foot is forward the torso should be rotating to the left...the left arm with be forward at that time...does that make sense...
so basically just drag your keys on torso to be on opposite feet...cool

alright so to let everyone know, that i've started over on the walkcycle. And here is what I've came up with.
