View Full Version : can MEL use dynamic variables

hi all.

just a general question really. i have a script i made that allows you to alter the transparency of a material with a custom MEL slider. at the moment i need to run the script on each object i have slected so that i get a new slider to change that particular material.

what i would idealy like is for the user to be able to just click on the object, and the relevant material is automatically read into the script, which means only one slider would be needed. however, this would mean that the script would be able to dynamically read in the newly selected object. is this possible with MEL scripts, or would i need to use the API for this kind of functionality?

you can use a script job, and set the trigger to change selection
