I have been working on this for about a week now and i have come to a bit of a dead end, like i have with most of my work.
I havnt finished anything to a standard i am happy with for a while now and i really want to do this so i can have something in my portfolio :sad:
Im looking for crits on how to make it look more interesting texture wise. I have no normal maps or spec maps yet but i wanted to ust get the colour right first. Also im not sure about the scale of some things...
So yeah be really harsh with me
One last thing im having issues with the lighting. It is only the default lighting in the images above because i cant get the lights to light certain obects, im using maya....

looks very nice.Have u unwrapped the building or do you useing tile textures?A wire would be nice also.Whats up with the brick texture in the windows?That doesnt look realistic in my eyes anyway.
I think its fun to see house models so keep up the good work!

Dirt, grime, rust, decay.
I'd say drive to a particularly crappy part of town and start taking reference photos of buildings. Look at how the buildings age and build up wear and figure out what you need to add to get that realism. A lot of times its stuff we would never think of until we see it in the real world, but once its added, it'll totally sell your model.
Or go to getty images and type in something like "slum" or "run down building". You should get some good reference.

I do have dirt its just very subtle. So i thaught just as a test to see if you guys think it looks better i increased the contrast on some of my textures.
Is it an improvment?
And a wire for you gaboon. As for the answer to your question i have used a tiling texture with decals

Hey Nice work so far but I think it does lack something.
I would say use tile able textures but make sure you can re use them as in you wouldn’t know its tile able
Deffo add more dirt and grime on your textures .
Is this an actual building you have modelled or is it made up?
I would add bits on the buildings to add more interest like you have done with the ladder such as light, drain pipes even use alphas to add broken brick etc add litter on the ground add a bench just play around with ideas. Also add like a satellite dish or something on the roof top.
Go out and take ref pics if you haven’t already as it helps a lot.
