View Full Version : Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe

First off all hello,
My name is Chris Ijzerman, 18 years old and I come from The Netherlands.
Ive been doing 3D modeling for 3 or 4 years now but the last year I keep getting less intrested in 3D modeling while it's a realy intresting thing to do...
So I had this idea last night about doing a car since thats what im used of doing.
The car I will be covering in this project is as you all can read from the title a Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe.
For this car I will be refining my modeling by getting more use out of the poly's I use and I will also learn to map better since my old mapping whas just crap :D.
Also interiorn and engine will be something new for me...
The maximum of polies I will try to use will be around 70k Becose of the the pretty much full detail look I got planned for it.
Modeling will be done in 3D Studio max and textures in Adobe Photoshop.
Hope this project will get enough intrest of people that want to help me get better :)

Well I understand your new found enlightenment :scream: I deffinitly get that every once and a while, but I think with the plan you have I think you should cut the poly count in half maby...
That will really get you think of how to use polies:)
Also as soon as you post post a wire frame so we can help you cut back some of thoughs polies.

Hey there Chris, good luck with the project. Dodge Viper SRT10 is one of best looking cars on the world, I've seen it in Bologna Motorshow and it's real beauty!

Ha... that is very nice!

I have started one of these myself during the summer... have the base down but can't get myself to actually do the detailing.. well front is nearly done...

I really hope that seeing you do the same will get me active on my dodge viper as well.

I'll be keeping an eye out.

Okay guys heres the first bit of progress for now.
While modeling the roof alone I found out how much of an pain this car realy is to model:D

I aint gonna quit on this car though, Im being way to proud of the fact I am actualy working out round shapes for once...

Anyways, enough chit chat time for pictures yay!! :cool:
And a picture that shows the shapes including the boob looking bolbs on the roof :P
Hope to get some crits from it :)

I was looking at my references to see if the roof really bends in like that... it does seem so but could be a visual thing... because of the bright stripes. However.. I am making a coupe so I have very little roof reference :( So i guess you are right there! :thumbsup:

However it looks quite nice and I think you are good on the way... the only crit I have is that the hard lines you have stick out at the sides while in real life I think the door, frame and roof are one smooth surfuce with only the lines created by the different panels... but if they were all one panel... it would be a smooth surface.

Already looking forward to the rest.. Keep it up indeed!

The buldge in the roof sure is there ;)

It's more clear on that one.
And for the hard edge you where talking about its just some fold in the roof or whatever it's called :D

Hi.. you 're right about the bulging shape... I can see it clearly in that picture!

On the other point I disagree with you...I am quite sure the hard edge is not a fold... it is where the roof part meets the doorframe part... but what I tried to explain earlier is that the silhouette (lower picture right in your greyscale rendering) should still be smooth... the line is there... but only inwards... so it would not affect the smooth line from roof to door. So the big dent you have there would only be a very small inward extrude.
Cars have that all over the place.. since it is almost impossible to make one in one piece.

The roof cant meet the door frame since the only part of the door is the part on the side of the car ;)
You're right about the fold thingy being smooth so I might ad a few polie's to that erea so that it will look less hard :thumbsup:

Here is another update on the Viper for today..
The back, it needs work and im sure the shapes arent all 100% right but i can hardly tell the shapes and hard edges with the lag of good usefull pictures.

Anyways, here is the picture.

You are going fast my friend.. can't wait to see how you tackle the slightly more complex bits... but then again.. maybe they really aren't that complex :)

But the whole car is a complex shape in my opinion :D
The backand that shows in the update isnt even completely correct as far as I know and I've redone it 2 or 3 times...

Today I will fill up the back where the lights etc should be.
So picture should get here tonight if it all go's the way it should :)
