i mean, when i'm drwing human skin, how do i create highlights and illuminated surfaces? i tried the sponge tool but its giving me some grayish color.

Simplest method is to just paint on a new layer with white, over top of the areas you want to highlight/lighten. Use a 50-100% soft brush.

But set this new painted layer to either Softlight, Overlay, or just reduce the Opacity a bit. The idea behind this technique is that you're "painting with light" -- and no, i DIDN'T get that from Russel Brown... i've been doing it for years. :rolleyes:

The sponge tool removes color saturation from a surface. What you're looking for is the Dodge tool, on the same part of the toolbox.
Still, it's often better(especially when you're practicing) to use seperate layers.
