Is this based on a real statue?
12-04-2007, 10:01 AM
Yes it is:
Peter the Great (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_the_Great) (depicts Peter I of Russia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_I_of_Russia)); Moscow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moscow), Russia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia). 96 m

Never heard of the real statue. It has my name in it :)
Well it starts to look like the statue itself, so keep modelling.
Are you going to use the same enviroment?
I'm looking forward to it
This statue is beautiful and with a lot of details.. will be a good project :)

Thanks for your replys!
Found the statue with google maps :), if I have time, I'll model the surrounding buildings also.

worked a bit with Peter and the environment, don't get any nightmares with the topology :D
12-07-2007, 11:19 PM
Dear God this is going smoothly... I still dont have my figure worked out :p
Very nice work!
12-09-2007, 07:34 PM
Some updates. Loads of stuff to do..
12-10-2007, 11:20 PM
shaping up very well!
Face topology looks ok , but you might want to consider leaving a gap between the corner of the mouth and the strip that goes around the nose and under the chin.
Looking forward to more from this.
12-11-2007, 08:16 PM
It doesn't look a bit like Peter yet :D
12-12-2007, 09:49 AM
Maybe not, but it's still a great model :p
But try maybe to make a mor pointy nose and bring the hear more to the front.
I dont know if on the statue he has a mustash?
But really, I'm impressed.
12-12-2007, 10:55 AM
Maybe his forehead is a little bit too bulged ?
12-12-2007, 07:07 PM
Good points killay, groutcho.
12-12-2007, 09:58 PM
looks much better :p
I'm really looking forward to your texturing :p
12-13-2007, 08:18 AM
Yeah the little mustache adds much for the "nobility" of the man ! :scream:

its looking fantastic already! Can't wait to see what u come up with in terms of detail...
12-16-2007, 08:43 AM
Six weeks before deadline it's already beautiful  What will it be the day before the deadline ? God only knows...
12-17-2007, 07:22 AM
groutcho, DDS :D

The railing is now at 90cm and the red figure is a 180cm tall man.
The main ship is slowly taking form.. Still very rough.
Next up: refining the details on the pedestal

Friggin´ amazing dude! I see that my level of polish is going to have to be
of a high magnitude in order to win this competition.
12-27-2007, 08:34 PM
Worked a bit on the breastplate, greaves, sabatons and the sword belt.
12-30-2007, 06:14 AM
I don't remember ever seeing this statue in my google searches for big statues.
I can't wait to see your work in Zbrush.... Or Mudbox..
Must be cold as *&$&A@ in Finland right about now right?

The model is really killing my computer..
01-23-2008, 06:14 PM
you might want to play a little with the perspective, it doesn't look as gigantic as it should be...
great modelling so far! keep it up!
