I am trying to get some muscle deformation done with Maya. I am currently using influence objects but they don't really give my the motion, deformation I am looking for and they are very time consuming to setup. Does somebody has a better idea?

I believe most muscle simulations are going to be time consuming to set up. But I have heard of another way that old teach Todd Palamar discusses briefly in his book Maya Feature Creature Creations (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1584502258/qid=1050646721/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/102-0496877-3176102?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) (Amazon Link)
Here's the basics of his method. You create a muscle structure underneith your "skin." Attach the muscle structure to your rig and make the muscles work with squash deformers and such. Then make your muscle system a rigid body, and your skin mesh a smoothbody.
Now you have the basics of a working muscle rig... the largest advantage is the skin slides over the muscles for realistic deformation.
It's talked though in the last couple chapters of the book with some tutorials and a troubleshooting section on getting it to look correct. I havent tried it myself though it sounds like it should work. It also sounds slow, but I dont know of any muscle solution avaliable for maya (especially included with it).
By the way, your model looks good.
