View Full Version : Fairly complex Robot

I've been working on this model, and now I want to rig it. The problem is that I have not much knowledge on this. The few things I know are more about organic mesh, and this one has a lot of piesces and is not organic.
What would you recommend me? I don't really know where to set the center point of the skeleton... should I use instances for the geometry?? I mean, parent the geometry to the skeletons? in that case, parent parented geometrys? or combined? or separated to one object? this may sound confusing :p

Also, I need to be able to control the down part

The other problem is that if I parent one geometry to the other, and then parent to the skeleton all is messing up and becomes confusing.

I'm thinking the root should be in the centre (lower back) as it's ok to have one leg so you can control it like one. Maybe you can still consider making the IK a child of the foot (wheels) geometry? (not sure how it moves exactly)

For a robot the geometry should simply be individually (each component, a seperate mesh) made children of the skeleton (quickly done by middle-mouse dragging each geometry component onto related skeleton components in Outliner).

aaah, that's a pretty good idea, naming each geometry and pareting it in the outliner. I think I will do that
