Hi fellow geeks!
Not sure where I could post this, but I guess this would be the best place since this is a WIP project =)

About a month ago we finished the public beta of our offshore racing game - Munkholmen Offshore Racing. Taking place in the wonderful Trondheimsfjord, just outside Trondheim, Norway, the player can race against the clock in a realistic location at staggering speeds.
The reason we made this game was to show that we can make more than just "serious games" and interactive visualizations, so after some brainstorming we came up with the idea for this game.
As we`re a pretty small company (4 people), we knew that we couldn`t compete with todays "next-gen" games, but after 2 weeks of intensive work we`re pretty satisfied with the result =)

Everything in the game is modelled, textured and animated in 3dsmax 9 and then brought into a heavily modified version of the Torque Game Engine. After a couple of years working with this excellent engine, we feel that it gives us all the control we need and good results. Some of us are still a bit upset about the .dif-format though, but nowadays we only use it for collisions and portals.
We managed to put in some really nice features in the game and these are the ones we`re most proud of:

- Adjustable wave height
- Adjustable weather
- 4 different boats to choose from (with different handling control)
- Damage system
- Bonus-time for tricks and air-time
- Support for joypad
- Scoreboard
- Seagulls =)

Anyways, I hope some of you guys (both mac & pc people) out there would like to try it out, so put on your racing helmets and

for some fast paced offshore racing! Also, feel free to give us some constructive feedback and suggestions on how to make the game better. We don`t have time to update it at the moment, but we will surely polish it and work more on it in the near future.

All the best!

hey guys, awesome piece of work here. It is really cool to see a small team assembling an indie game, and seeing that it shapes up nicely ;) I am about to download it, and I will try it out with pleasure (hope it works :) )

Overall, as for indie game it looks cool, but major feeling that I get looking at screengrabs is loneliness and sadness sometimes :(
When it rains it looks too desaturated and plain. I would suggest to make shores more attractive, more rich. U know, when u play good racing games u may get a feeling that a crowd is watching u, u may see poeple around the truck or some activities going on in the BG etc.
Water could have more objects on it, some scooters etc.

Something that gives a feeling of summertime fun lacks in this case.

However, it is already a great achievement to have a working game after all ;)

Keep it up!

Hey man & thanks for all the feedback!
I totally see what you mean by the "feeling of loneliness & sadness", but we didn`t actually have time to put any more life into the game. It was quite hectic in the end of our deadline and the game still needs plenty of polishing & tweaking. The models for instance, they don`t have any level of detail right now, so the framerate can be improved a lot.

Still, we learnt so much during these two weeks, so hopefully the next version will be twice as good =)

Thanks again!
