Can I PM or E-mail Kirt about the project?
Yes and No. I don't mind recieving personal mail about the project and I do read all of it, but I am getting pressed for time. Many personal messages I may not have time to reply to. This film project is really about learning and experience. I recommend that all communications about the project be offered here on this forum, so that others are aware of all of the direction and decisions made regarding the film. If you just want to comment on our work so far you're more than welcome to post in the General Discussion Thread (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49765).
I want to model something but most of the items seem to be taken already.
It's understandable to have reservations about jumping in when someone is already doing a model you want to do. However, since this is an educational project I have no problems with you modelling something just for the experience. The concepts are available to everyone and you're more than welcome to give it a shot. Please post your progress in this forum so others can see.
For the film, I'm going to use the models that look the best and animate well. So, if I recieve 10 of the same character models, I'll choose the ones that work the best for the scene. I really don't want to turn the project into a competition for screen credits though, so I'm going to credit anyone who's worked on the project (even if you're in the "Special Thanks to ..." section). The models that get used in the scenes will have credits listed for modellers, animators, texture artists, voices, etc. So I guess you'll have to do your best if you want to see your name there. (but ... it's not a competition :D )
Can I get the FTP information so that I can take a look at what you have so far?
No. We're reserving the FTP info for those who have already shown a considerable amount of work on the project and are serious about working through to the end. It's important that we keep our files secure to prevent tampering and early distribution to the public. If you have questions regarding a model, then you should ask the modeller about it. He or she will be able to help you figure out how certain things are done and why.
I've modelled a character/item and need to transfer it to an animator for an animation test. Can I get the FTP info now?
unLevel (http://www.cgtalk.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=8521) is managing our file hosting and he's the guy you need to contact regarding the FTP info. I've given him instructions to check with me before any FTP access is granted, so it may take a couple days for this to be processed. Until you've been given access you can zip your files and e-mail them directly to the animators if needed.
Do you have an expected completion date for this film?
We started this project in January 2003 and I'm estimating 2 years until completion. Granted, we're all working on this in our own free time so this may or may not be a realistic goal. I guess it all depends on the amount of continued involvment and dediction to the project. And of course, the more people helping out will more than likely mean an earlier release date. :D
[i]That's it for now. More to come later ...
