View Full Version : My demoreel in animation

11 November 2007, 09:54 AM
Let's drop on eye on my demo and tell me what you thinf about it

This is also the demoreel of one friend of mine who worked with me on our student film "Jungle Jail"

And at last but not least...the short film we made.

Don't hesitate to tell me what you think about all that...

Thank you

11 November 2007, 03:10 PM
that was one awesome reel!
you should post that 3d animation on here as well!
i'd like to watch it!

5 stars easy

11 November 2007, 03:36 PM
Thank you very much...don't hesitate to have a look on ( if you want to know more about it.

11 November 2007, 04:41 PM
Both of you had some quality reels and i liked how yours was timed well with the music. Depending on who you send your reel to maybe put 3D animation first since that was a little more entertaining.

Great short!! way funny and great style of animation. Was that a short your whole class did together or just you and your friend i couldn't tell from the credits.

11 November 2007, 10:44 PM
Very well done!
I really like the story and the humour in it.
The only comments would be certain part of the animations and the smash cut are too quick and I hardly know what's going on and I don't have time to "digest" a little while.
But overall, nice storytelling with morale values in it too. Good stuff!! :applause:

11 November 2007, 11:16 PM
Excellent demo, I really enjoyed ! Man keep it up ! great work

11 November 2007, 11:20 PM

Totally superb! Many congrats to you, guys.
Some questions: how long did it take for you four to complete the short? What tools did you use for 2d animation - toon boom?

11 November 2007, 12:07 AM
incredible. congratulations guys.

11 November 2007, 12:28 AM
Fantastic work! Wow that was really spectacular, I haven't seen an animated short that was that good in a long time, and your demo reels are really A quality stuff. The transitions you guys did were wonderful, I especially like the one where the guys sort of dance in still frames into the next scene. That was a hell of a lot of character to animate too, my hats off to you! 5 stars from me!

11 November 2007, 12:47 AM
ok , I think this is the best short film I saw in my life hehehe.

11 November 2007, 01:22 AM

Good job

11 November 2007, 02:19 AM
The short film is really cool! Nice demo reel but it's very long and I agree you should probably put your 3D animation first or at least mix the 2D and 3D segments together!

11 November 2007, 02:53 AM
my god! I'm labeling this extremely inspirational in my inspiration folder. very funny and well made short, best I've seen in a while.

11 November 2007, 03:17 AM
Perfect!!... Timeing was right on the money, perfect editing... it's this type of story telling that make you forget its an animation, and make you become more involved with the character... simply superb! 6 Stars!

11 November 2007, 05:23 AM
glad you guys made front page. CONGRATS:thumbsup:

11 November 2007, 05:58 AM

11 November 2007, 12:40 PM
great stuff, fun film :)

cool looking characters

11 November 2007, 01:03 PM
A very nice short guys, I really liked the main character design and model. The only thing that ruined it a bit for me was the sound, the music at times (especially that bit at the very beginning) seemed really choppy and badly edited and kind of jumped a bit...I thought it was the video not loading properly at first, but I downloaded it and got the same thing.

11 November 2007, 01:16 PM
Just amazing. Can't wait to see your next, inspiring work!

11 November 2007, 01:52 PM
Dude! That was better animation than in many feature films today! I'm sure not doubt there is a job waiting for you in the future.

That jail short movie would make a great feature too I think

Great stuff! I wish u happy joy joy for your future :D

verry well made...

11 November 2007, 08:31 PM
Fantastic and hugely entertaining short !

You have some great characters and a setting here that could possibly be expanded into a full length feature, with "Tiny" and "Bluto" becoming buddies, or mabye some other kind of warped relationship ;)

"Major Studio" quality, story wise, technically (rendering / animation).

Were any/all of you guys self-taught in 3d before you attended the "Ecole Superteure" ?,

What software did you use to render the short ?

Is that "global illumination" or some other lighting technique to get that "professional" look ?

The only crit I have, is that I didn't quite get the ending

The "bug" is wearing 3d glasses, so is the whole prison situation supposed to be a movie that the bug is watching ?

11 November 2007, 08:45 PM
Very nice work. Could you provide an estimate of how long it took the four of you to complete the short?

11 November 2007, 11:18 PM
that's why i'm doing animation. that's the target quality for me :) speechless...

11 November 2007, 05:59 AM

11 November 2007, 06:28 AM
This is the best short film I have ever seen.

11 November 2007, 08:20 AM
cool,I liked this your work.

11 November 2007, 09:35 AM
I would never guess our short could be as successful around the world. That's so cool for us to make laugh everyone and that's why we decided to make a cartoon where the characters don't speak. We're so glad you enjoyed it.
Sorry to be late in my answers but I could'nt have internet on this weekend.

For those who try to watch the movie on ( there's a link problem so don't try. There's just our contacts, screenshots and graphics researchs.

For rendering, we had only used maya software with an Occlusion path (calculated with mental ray).
No Global illumination or final gather...We just worked the pictures in post production because we are not good technical renderers.

For 2D animation, we used paper an pencil (héhé) and after we shot the pictures with a camera wich is used in production. It's called "banc titre" in France. And after we import all the pictures in a little software wich is called Ernest the linetest. It's a kind of internal soft.

The short was made in 12 months exactely. We started in september 2006 and finished in september 2007. No summer holidays for us...snif. But I guess we made the good choice.
The movie is not for sale because it's a student movie made in a school and the school get the "authors rights" (do call it like that?). It means...if the film earn money thanks to a price in a festival, the school get all the money and we have nothing. Maybe a "thank you guys".

For those who wants more, we're actually working an a personnal project with aymeric on our free time. I hope you'll enjoy it too ( If we manage to end it)

Concerning the sound. There was a compression probem and I'm gonna get it very soon but I would never guess the film would be seen by so much people in this few time...
Thanks for you all and your critics. It really help us to have a return on our work and it's a real pleasure if you enjoy it around the world.
Don't hesitate to ask more questions and for employers....if you've got an animation work to purpose, don't hesitate to contact us.

Thank you

11 November 2007, 09:51 AM
Gratz on a nice short. Really loved the style and the story really simple but entertaining. The only thing that could have been better is the audio.

11 November 2007, 07:05 PM

I loved the Cuts and the use of the camera was awesome. Also the animation was top shelf! the timing and the snapiness, the models were great... everything gets five stars for sure!

11 November 2007, 02:39 PM
Enorme !

Encore bravo

Congrats and keep it up !

11 November 2007, 12:39 PM
Merci !! Je penserai a la faire plus courte dès que j'aurai de nouveaux trucs a montrer.

Pour ce qui est de Xavier, il est rentré du canada aujourd'ui donc je manquerai pas de lui passer le bonjour. Mat l'a déjà.

Bonne continuation à toi.

11 November 2007, 12:10 PM
