View Full Version : Character modelling/texturing demo reel

Hi, this is the demo reel i ve been working on for the last epoch or two. It was started while i was a student at VanArts, a year or so ago. I learned a lot during the time, iterating and restarting most of the models, each time taking them a degree further in every aspect. <-- High res - 120mb. <-- medium res - 65 mb.

Stage6Divx stream ( (720x480) <-- medium res 32 mbs, might have to download the codec package to watch.

Youtube stream ( (320x240) <-- small res

And a few shaded/ao views: ( ( <-- here's Punk's partial WIP thread. <-- here's Soulblighter's . It doesn't show much progress, but has some shaded/wireframe stills if anyone is interested

i folowed your punk wip with interest . great model !

i think you should upload you reel to another site. i have a big connection, and the download is about 12kbs...2 hours for download it.

you could try stage6 :
no limitation/speed and the best quality in stream.

cant wait to see your reel !

hey Fess1001....congrates on finishing ur reel...!!!...and the final outcome is real good!!!...5* and i would say, this is definitely a frontpage plug stuff...i wish this would hit the front page sooner or later!!!...i really liked all of them...punk is amazing in terms of anatomy....texturing and shading is top notch...:thumbsup: .....

by the u managed that great looking grass on the podium of the Soulblighter!!!???...looking cool...any tips we can get??!!:)

dhruvsm - thank you! The grass was maya's paint fx converted to polygons and then rendered with mental ray. I only added it the last minute, when i already had shaded closeups rendered out, which is why it's geometry isn't there.

impressive reel. the first character is freaking awsome, you nailed the second guy as well, flesh eaten face can be quite difficult to make look good.
the third is so-so, while i liked the face and expression you pulled off, the armor looks poorly designed and boxy. plus the street sign next to her is not proper scale (unless shes a giant) and looks pretty fugly to be honest. but overall a really fantastic job.

Thanks for the good comments guys, i m glad you liked it.

Gkaine - i totally agree with you on the third character. That scene was the only one that i didn't revisit due to weak design of the robot parts - those were my first attempts at concept design and hardsurface modeling too. My next character that i m making is from the same world, and hopefully what i ve learned so far would make him into a stronger piece.

Also - the concept for Soulblighter isn't mine, but from a Bungies's "Myth2:Soulblighter" game. The artwork that i used for inspiration could be found here ( <-- Artist's name is Craig Mullins.
