View Full Version : HMC #11: Halloween Monsters: Witch

Gunna base mine off the concept art Roberto did a while back, I loved the look of it the instant I saw it, i'm just hoping I have time to build it all.
This one:

It's an awesome concept, I loved the mummy's as well, there were so many cool cocepts posted, so I went with my first choice :D

Anywho, on with the action.
Started making a quick ortho to try and get proportions of the main witch.

Not the best in the world, but what the hey. I tried to stylise the proportions just a little (thin mid section, thin arms, long feet), but not too much. I'll knock the base model out tomorrow, and see where we go from there.

Cool! I can see why you like this modern-day witch look. It really is a neat concept.

Looking forward to seeing your first modeling work!

Just a quick update, didn't get as far as i planned, so still very much in early stages. I've noticed some problems already, the scarf i thought was the lengh of the neck, but it's not, and the shape of the head needs some tweaking. Plugging away it it mind, more tomorrow, hope to have her in Zbrush tomorrow for a sculpting pass.

just about ready for Zbrushing. pretty shapeless atm, and detailless, but taking shape. it's just a quick unwrap. obviously any changes roberto (or anyone :D) recommends i'll make :D won't be able to do anything til monday now mind, but still, progress has started :D

As promised

10-12-2007, 06:33 AM
thanks, i'll get to making the changes :) made the clothing a bit clearer as well, you're a star.

made some changes. Just about ready to go into Zbrush. She needs some shoes, and a little UV tweaking. Not sure where to go with the shoes, was thinking either heels, which is a bit traditional, or some form of skater style trainer. i'll have a think. any suggestions welcome as well :)

started sculpting the legs, but gunna watch ratatoille in a bit, so i'll stop til tomorrow

10-16-2007, 09:22 PM
I think maybe the legs are a bit too muscular for a woman, but nice progress so far! keep it up

10-17-2007, 01:26 PM
cheers dude, and yeah, have smoothed out and tweaked the size of the legs. might need a bit more.

side note, i enjoyed ratatouille :D

Coming along very nicely!

There's still something really odd about the legs, cant quite put my finger on it yet, but the abdomen/waist area looks excellent!

I think this is because the waist/butt does not have enough beef on it. It was really good in the first reference image, but in a reference image later the waist is quite a bit thinner, this makes her look more childish i think. I am not an expert on anatomy though.

Good luck!

man its goin ccool but u should turn down those muscles a bit coz its lookin like a male legs right now.

still plugging away

10-29-2007, 12:21 PM
much crashing and frusttration later, an update! *Did the scarf and started the hands, which still need some tweaking, but they're where it keep crashing.

need to get a move on really, thankfully i'm off work next week, so full steam ahead :D

10-29-2007, 02:17 PM
I went into photoshop and player a bit with her proportions to make her look more like a teen.

Even Forum leaders get duplicate posts!

10-29-2007, 03:19 PM
i'll have a go at making those changes, cheers dude :)

10-29-2007, 05:43 PM
not done those changes yet, but small update none the less

i had started some shoes for her, but zbrush crashed again, and this time corrupted the file :/ thankfully i incrementally save like a trooper :D

10-29-2007, 06:28 PM
tweaked a bit the face in photoshop...

Here is an update:

10-29-2007, 09:47 PM
BTW if you wish, post some 800x600 ortho shots of her face, and I can tweak them in Photoshop..
Also I can do the same for the body.

10-30-2007, 11:30 AM
cheers for the offer dude, we'll see if i can nail it like this first, as it isn't posed particuly well in zbrush, so gettting orthos could be an arse :D
Matching with roberto's first tweaked image, probably broken some flow with my moving around, so might need to re sculpt some.

11-01-2007, 09:08 PM
very very slight update. tweaked a few things, gave the broom some substance.

and started on the model of the little girl, which atm i'm not happy with, but can't work on it for a couple of days, so we'll see what i feel like after that. its only the base mesh, so won't really pop until we're in zbrush, but still.

11-05-2007, 04:14 PM

and posed in the piece. will start the sculpt this evening.

11-05-2007, 06:28 PM
Nice progress!

From looking at Roberto's commments and PS tweaks I assume the witch is supposed to be more of a teenager?!? Right now she looks like she's waaay older. To get that younger look I would suggest to bring the chin and nose up/shorten them, round off the cheekbones a little, bring the outer corners of the eyes down a bit, add some fullness to the upper lips and pull them forward a tad, smooth out a little of the mid-level facial detail and make the hair appear a bit more fluffy!

It's getting there, so stay on it!

Cheers mate!

PS: Your witch kept reminding me of someone, but of whom elduded me until it hit me just now. You've got a neat Meryl Streep likeness going there. :)

11-07-2007, 10:35 PM
cheers dude, i'll try and get the youth looking soon, not tried yet.
been working on the kid, whom is turning into the devil child. i can;t get it looking normal at all. might scrap it tomorrow and remake, see if we can get somewhere.
i had got further than this, but zbrush had a paddy and made it so if i unhid anything it became tiny wee, so missing somee folds and things. nothing major. the "deatiling" on the kid is still a little rough around the edges, she needs a lot more work, but as i say, might just bin her and start over.

11-12-2007, 05:14 PM
few days away to reignite the passion as it were, and we're back, hopefully wrap this up next couple days.

11-13-2007, 12:44 PM
few tweaks

11-13-2007, 07:46 PM
