ya I know this project is kinda old and composed of primitive object modelling because I didn't know better then but I am using this to practice new rendering techniques and I have some questions if anyone can help me
this is wut the original normal rendering looks like
after being inspired... well... if thaz the word, by some of the works here, I wanted to try to make the models look "glassy"
ok, i am not that creative
so I tried with brazil, read some tutorial that I should use a falloff environment so the glass refraction/reflection will look good:
but then i dun want my environment to look like that, and with ordinary environment the glass doesnt look like glass, jus looksl ike some transparent blob haha... so I tried 2 do, beside a raytracer refraction, also a (light/shadow)falloff mapped refraction, and got this, but still doesn't have the effect I wanted, cant really say wut... and itz very obscule, cant diffrentiate the outline due to the transparency:
so... I am a newbie... dun really know much bout rendering and lighting and texture... actually... not much of anything, so jus hoping some1 can leave some comment bout how 2 make "good looking glass" look
thx for your time in reading my over lengthy post!
as posted earlier, the game can be played from my site if interested
well, i feel kinda stupid for posting since all the artists here are all so... pro... but wutever -____-
1.5 month ago I wanted to create a game... and by this time I never touched 3D... I am mainly a macromedia flash person, ya the most amateur level of designers... so I started creating a flash game based on the traditional chinese chess which in some ways are similar to western chess... then I thought wouldnt it be cool if itz in 3D and if the chess pieces can be animated to stimulate the battlechess feel like in harry potter the movie. Thus I started playing around with 3D and create very primitive characters, as you will see. I didnt know much bout 3DS Max so I did everything the dumb way, render all the pieces in a specific orientation, then use photoshop to delete the white background and export as a transparent background PNGs so they can be displayed on a board background in FLASH... well herez wut I finished for this lil cs event at my school in march
this basically leads to my website where you can see the game by clicking on the flash icon... there are some html bugs.. and some fullscreen annoyance issue, so I hope you can bear with me... and also you need to have at least 1024 resoltuino to view...
the project is finished and I am not planning 2 change anything... too lazy... but I learned a lot from it... and I AM looking for critics... to make me better at it, since I fell in love with 3D and I wanna... make more 3D stuff -_____- but so far I suck at it!
one thing I was confused about is... is there a way 2 export images from 3ds MAX with transparent background like PNG formats?
well... tear me apart and embarass me with my very amateur
