View Full Version : ZOEY, my latest short animation

10 October 2007, 06:37 PM
I've produced this short for an animation contest in Thiland. The tough part is I've had only 1 month to finish. Thanks for a great support & idea from my beloved girlfriend ^_^
It's very simple concept. but I hope you'll enjoy it :)

Cool stuff! what language is that? I like the rabit character. The over all apeal is good especially for kids.!!

10 October 2007, 08:51 PM
is that the music to loco roto? cool stuff man!

10 October 2007, 03:40 AM
Yes, the music is from Loco Roco. And it's non-human language.
Thank you very much for comments :)

10 October 2007, 07:04 AM
That was pretty fun to watch, I think you hit your goal of making a simple short. The music is interesting although I'm not a fan of it, but I suppose it does fit the concept of the short. Good job.

10 October 2007, 11:37 AM
Top work!! i really enjoyed that!

10 October 2007, 01:49 PM
Same here!!

10 October 2007, 07:14 PM
A nice short indeed.
Good job my Thai fella  Hope to see more from you.

10 October 2007, 07:50 PM
this is a very cute and fantastic work 5 stars to you.

10 October 2007, 07:38 AM
very well done, simple and to the point,

the recurring theme of the zoetrope even in the title is pretty cool too

my only problem would be that the camera seemed swimmy at times,

for the animation, i think it works well for the style you have, ESPECIALLY since you did all that by yourself,

keep going

10 October 2007, 08:08 AM
Wow.. this is so cute.. nice work man! 5*

10 October 2007, 08:10 AM
(forgot to rate in previous post) 5*

aaaawwwww....thats so cute clip

10 October 2007, 04:58 PM
wow! great! Do you have a link so I can download it and show my students? I'm an animation prof and there's lots of great things going on in your film! I'm thai too! so I'm happy to see some good things coming from my parents homeland!

10 October 2007, 01:22 AM
This is just so cute!
Great short!

10 October 2007, 11:57 AM
Amazing short man, i was jumping with the animation :)

Only crit would be when the camera switches from the main char to the rabit nodding left to right, you see the canvasses on the ground, which makes no sens while the canvasses are standing 90° up in the ground.

It's actualy after the main char puts the canvasses up and starts blow wisseling the pipe.

But damn man seeing all the rest this is just a minor thing, i think you could easely rerender that scene.

Greaaaaaat work!

10 October 2007, 02:09 PM
Thank you so much for your comment, AikoWorld. I've already finished re-render that scene. My friends also agree with your point and said that it's look better.

10 October 2007, 05:12 AM
Great man.....nice song
and the animation is very simple and well done.

loco roco....mmmm

10 October 2007, 09:02 AM
heheh that was some great work and a mix of 2D and 3D.... excellent job. I love the fact you droped in the definiting of the word and also put a little animation of it..... it actually made me think of how many people that have never seen or heard of this device....and wouldn't know the wheel of life.... Ha Ha Ha reminds me of when i was a kid and use to grab the paper that came with the wheel and change them to do what i wanted them to do... back to the topic. 5* from me. =o)

11 November 2007, 03:41 PM
Nice work.!!! So cool.!!!

11 November 2007, 07:03 AM
The short has a bit of stiffness in some areas, but man it is really cute.

11 November 2007, 07:21 AM
cool work for one months worth of work. Mind sharing the technical details?

11 November 2007, 07:59 AM
simply lovely animation. I liked it. :)

One "error" I found was that after he installed all the canvas, there is a shot where that little pink thing is shown again and you can see canvas lying around it...however, there is no canvas anymore on the floor. :)

Anyway, good work.

11 November 2007, 08:16 AM
That was really cute! It made my day thanks!!!

11 November 2007, 11:08 AM
Hahah, the rabbits are really cute, that's a nice animation you've got going there.

11 November 2007, 11:12 AM
Hi applenikki,

Very nice, agreeable, and sweet. The children adore this.

I like much the oriental style, minimalist, both in the colors and in the forms. Excellent "springs" efects .
Good integration of 2d/3d

The music accompanies very well.

(Moksha Proyects)

11 November 2007, 11:17 AM

Even worse, just when the animation is finished - it starts up again! "Bub-baaaaa!" Nooo!

LOL, some animation could do with a little tweaking but thats nitpicking. An all round good effort and one to always keep on your portfolio.

11 November 2007, 11:49 AM

Very good direction! Sweet to the point. Keep it up.

One month, wow.. you seemed to have put your effort into all the right places. Which is something not many can do. Hat's off!

11 November 2007, 01:24 PM
sry, whats this ? anyway 4*

11 November 2007, 01:25 PM
kids will like your film.
nice work!

11 November 2007, 02:36 PM
Christ, I am still watching this even after a few hours...:scream:

11 November 2007, 04:10 PM
i would give this a cuteness award if there is one :) really enjoyed the short.

11 November 2007, 05:04 PM
 Soooooo sweet animation!

Love the render, love the caracter (especialy the rabbit!), love the animation, love the music, love the composition...well....that's all??? yes yes that all!:)

A like the moment when your tiny artist stand all the paintings up, you have cut some seconds to speed up the passage and that's work great, it's full of nice effects like this one and the result is top!

11 November 2007, 06:18 PM
awesome, just awesome -- anyway you can provide us with a direct download link to a quicktime or avi? and perhaps share with us a little more about the film.

ps. i'll check out your myspace shortly ;)

EDIT: you just can't compete with cuteness, 5*

EDIT2: if anyone wants to see more by Sasapitt, check out his myspace--some very nice stuff...

11 November 2007, 08:53 PM
This is a nice piece and has a great feel to it. It would be 100 times better if you used some original music instead of the Loco Roco soundtrack though.

11 November 2007, 09:46 PM
great stuff, love the cute animation and style.

11 November 2007, 10:16 PM
I really like this short movie. I wonder how could you model the eyes? Can u give me few tutorial? Because I want to do my demoreel in that style. Is that toon shader? THank you!

11 November 2007, 11:19 PM
its vre nice ihpe if ado some thing like thise vreson

11 November 2007, 12:03 AM
Very cute. I'm always impressed with *finished* one man productions. Good job.

11 November 2007, 12:25 AM
nice work:)

11 November 2007, 12:49 AM
Great work I really liked this.

11 November 2007, 03:46 AM
Hi! your short animation so cute. I think you will win the contest.

11 November 2007, 06:16 AM
That may be the one of the most adorable things I've ever seen. Great job. 5*

11 November 2007, 08:12 AM
I think it looks great!

My question is wich software package did you use, and what renderer.
What is your lightsetup.
How did you make the eyes... flat and still be able to blink.

The music can get a bit annoying, but it's well designed ..congratulations

11 November 2007, 08:43 AM
I was waiting the whole time that when are you going to slice up those cute little things..

11 November 2007, 09:31 AM
MEGA POSITIVE !!! :bounce: :applause:

11 November 2007, 09:38 AM
I really enjoyed that, the overall feel just had a smile on my face the whole time.

My only negative comment though is I noticed you reused some footage there of a shot looking at the rabbit. The reuse was very noticable because it was a cut from when the circle of pictures was spinning already, but the reused footage had 2 blank canvas next to the rabbit on the ground where it should have been empty (since the canvases were already propped up and spinning).

11 November 2007, 09:45 AM
Hey man, great stuff.Congrat to u and to ur girlfriend for the support.Nice stuff.
Try to find someone who are interested to make a serial from this.It works fine for a kid channel.Good luck.

11 November 2007, 10:35 AM
This is sooooo cute!
I'm a fan of Loco Roco game so the music didn't bother me at all.
It would certainly appeal to the young kids.

What software did you use?

11 November 2007, 10:39 AM
Sweet! I love Loco Roco but I personally feel the music made this short feel a little obnoxious at some point. It's a shame you couldn't have gotten an original song made for this short. I'd really try investing your time and/or money in getting original music done. That way it's a 100% original work and plus you'll be able to submit it to festivals. Nice work!

11 November 2007, 11:46 AM
too cute please send a download link with hi res, i reall y wnt to keep this.thank u very much!

11 November 2007, 02:22 PM

I hope this could give you an idea. The project has been done on Maya 7
Everything is very simple, all primitive nurbs, basic IK. The eyes are blendshape. Render with software render, basic 3-point lighting. This is really speed modeling & speed animation

BTW, I'm now working on an Original Music. I wish it should be nice :)

11 November 2007, 03:26 PM
Hmm now it's clear !
Cause you made the eyes into the mesh itself, probably shaded it, and then with blend shapes, made it go up and down , right ?
That you lighted that with the software renderer, really cool!

11 November 2007, 05:13 PM
I've been showing this to everyone since yesterday - they all love it. :)

11 November 2007, 05:42 PM
Haha! I like it ^__^ The most magical moment in the movie when the drawings become animations :)

11 November 2007, 08:09 PM
Thanks for cheering me up with your film! I needed that positive energy.
Really nice animation:applause:

11 November 2007, 10:07 PM
very nice, i like

11 November 2007, 02:04 AM

11 November 2007, 02:26 AM

11 November 2007, 11:21 AM
awwww, thats sooo cute ^^
And the music fits perfectly, can't imagine, that theres a better song
for this animation.

11 November 2007, 03:13 PM
that was so cute!!

it s so for discovery channel n_n

11 November 2007, 08:51 PM
That was a lot of fun, I think it achieved everything you were shooting for, and the speed of the execution is commendable.

11 November 2007, 12:10 AM
This is incredibly cute and adorable. Very anime, and that's definitely a good thing. Plus, it's incredibly catchy and re-watchable.

I love the way you blended 3D characters and 2D characters at the end of the clip, but I noticed that, when the 2D animated characters were moving into the scene, close to the camera, they seemed to be a bit pixellated, possibly due to over-magnification of the drawings mapped to the planes. This may also have been an optical trick caused by the movie compression, but it was the one thing that drew my attention away from the narrative.

Overall, however, it's extremely well done. Congrats on the front page... you earned it!

11 November 2007, 03:58 AM
I don't think I've ever seen the word "cute" used so much in one thread. :D

But it's justified...If this was any cuter it would be dangerous. ;)

Great job, I love the energy it has, and the timeframe you did it in is really impressive. The way you listed yourself in the credits was pretty classy too. :)

11 November 2007, 04:51 AM
That was really adorable and really simple, yet effective!

I love the drawings coming to life. Great work!

11 November 2007, 03:37 PM
great work
and congrats on the front page

this made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside

11 November 2007, 05:42 PM
Is really awesome, very cute :). Ok, simple primitive nurbs but great work make for only one person!. Congragulations on the front page.

11 November 2007, 10:51 AM
Just one word... Beautiful!! It felt like as if I was being transported into a magical/animated world. Really great! The characters are cute and it feels really magical to see those drawings come to life! Great concept. The music is great too... it blends really nicely with your animation that it feels like they are made for each other. So, no need to change the music.

Thanks for sharing!:)

11 November 2007, 05:44 PM
Great job with animation and rendering. Was the rendering included in the month time frame?
The only thing I would have liked to have seen was the kid spinning the zoetrope at the end of the short rather than in the credits. But that's just me.
Great look overall.

11 November 2007, 06:26 PM
Lovely ! 5 stars !

Congratulations ! this really a great short, I enjoyed it so much !

11 November 2007, 12:57 AM
