View Full Version : Rigging & animation demo reel WIP

Just finished putting stuff together for my first demo reel. I'll be graduating this winter and by then I want to make it presentable. Hope I can get some critics from here so that I can improve it. Here is link to my reel. Original scripting credit goes to the author of "The Art of Rigging." I referenced most of scripting from the book and implemented to my characters.

saw the demo , not bad but looks like a beginers or student demo though
1. the rigging was real good shows you understand that area well
2. particle setup was cool but would like to have see some rendered examples
3. the animation needs a lot of work on the timing an staging i would not put that on the demo until its perfect
4.you need to consintrate on showing skills for the job your looking for the demo is all over the place is not a problem if each part is great but i dont see strong enough peices to land you a great job,
5. dont put stuff on the demo for filler better to have 2secs of great work than 4 mins of weak material
6. look at other demo an see how they are put together how each cilp gose to the next, but dont copy either .

The one thing that I first noticed is that it looked like you were having to use marking menus a bit with that rig - I like my custom marking menus just the way they are now and I don't really want any new ones to replace them.
The facial controls seemed like they are working well, but are we able to see them in the regular working pane (not in the pop-up facial control window)? If not, it would be nice to have that option.
Other than those two things, the rigs look pretty standard from an animation standpoint - lots of stuff I can grab and move without having to dig too much... that's a good thing.
As far as the character animation tacked on to the end - remove it. The animation you have added doesn't feel like it is near finished. The other alternative (which would be a good learning lesson) would be to go in rework all of that animation so that it reads clearly and has a clean, polished look. That's entirely up to you, but -for right now- just take it out.

I really appreciate your critics. Yeah, the animation was little(actually alot) embarassing. I took it out already. Good that not many people saw it. I'll focus on the riggings and refine it until it is presentable. About the marking menu, it doesn't replace any existing ones. About the facial controls, you can see them in any camera. Yeah, about the animation, I shouldn't have put it. I'll definitely rework all of the animations.
