Basically that ;)

I have a scene with light shining through a grate. Looks great in Software render, but grainy and innacurate in MR. I know there's another way. Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope...

Is Mental Ray worth the trouble?

you can oversample the volumeshader. there should be a mental ray tab in the shader (cant check that right now).
