View Full Version : Smooth Mesh Prev or Sub-D?

When rendering a polygon object created using the new Maya 2008 Smooth Preview (keys: 2 and 3), what is your primary option for rendering?

Think about Cost/Performance/Quality and Texture Placement, in your opinion, wich one is superior?

Convert -> Smooth mesh Preview to Polygons.

Convert -> Polygons to Sub-D.

Ps: Specially for High Quality cars and stuff like it.

I'm wondering this same thing for toon Shader techniques.

I had a similar question recently and am using smooth polygon preview, then asigning a Mental Ray Subdivision Aproximation to the surfaces so that Mental Ray only deals with subdividing at rendertime.
