View Full Version : Hologram Shader for Maya

Hi All

I was wondering if anybody has any ideas on a hologram kind of shader for Maya.

I have a model of a human character that I need to give it the "star wars hologram" kind of look. Though it should be a little bit more 3Dish.

Anyways.. just a hologram would do :)

I tried using the X-Ray shader and I do get kind of the feel I'm going for, but I want to add some 'scan lines' going up and down so it looks like the object is kind of projected in mid air.

Ideas? ideas?

i dont use maya, but couldnt you just animate a bunch of bars going up your screen then save that animation. then apply the animation as an opacity map.

This effect is best done post. Render your object and than take it into post and dress it up. There are a dozen tutorials on Star Wars Fan sites on how to do this. A really cool version of this was done in the Battlefield Earth film. I think the boys from Computer Cafe did the work very nice.

Theres a lined tv like shader here that may help "Pattern Shader"

Tweek transparency and Luminosity to your scenes required levels.
