with vue 6.50, lights now effect spectral clouds...In the light properties (refer to image) is a button which turns on this function..

Create an atmos, add clouds and place some or a light in amongst the cloud layer..animate the lights to flicker..this will give you lightning. Place the sun nice and low to the ground to give you a night sky.

Heres an image made with a spotlight sitting above a relativly thin layer of clouds. You could setup a few lights positioned at different angles, animating to flicker opposite each other.

I have no idea as to how to make the lights turn on and off something to do with graph editor in the lighting properties...maybe you can tell me.

hi Ivan,

to turn the lights on and off, you turn on auto key and then lower the power of the light to 0, move to another frame and turn it up, then move to another key and turn it down again.

here is a VOB of a light you can take a look at.

oh, I see what you mean,

if you are referring to the light of the sun, then you would animate that from the atmosphere editor.

But, I would use single lights place above the clouds and use the method I mentioned above, to simulate lightining - and animate the turnover of the clouds.

Hi Solomon,

Yes I discovered that after I posted...You have to create keyframes for a light NOT the sun..preferably a spot light..or you can edit the graph editor inline with the power property, however after loading a function specificily made for flickering lights, the power of the light was too low, but I cant figure out how to increase the power of the light via the graph editor as it only went up to 2...I needed 10000.

I guess you have to do it manually..wich is a bit of a pain.

Thanks for the tip, and the zip.
