View Full Version : Portrait of an old woman

So I thought I'd try keeping my drawing and painting skills at status quo - and maybe improve them. 'Cause I never seem to get enough time to do anything...
So I found this photo of an old wrinkled lady on Google, which I used for reference. The portrait was painted in Photoshop in 1200x1600, but cropped and scaled a bit for your viewing pleasure.
I consider myself done with this one, after working on and off for some days. I estimate I've used +/- 10 hours on it.
So... any comments?

Well, the most obvious thing is that your granny looks more like a grampy:D...I think that's mostly due to the clothing, but also maybe a lack of eyelashes and maybe a bit of color in the cheeks.
Technique wise this is pretty good. I think you could add some more highlights/saturated tones in certain areas to make the painting have more depth. Areas like her nose, cheeks, etc. could use the highlights.
Also, the blue coat could use some more detail...the same level which you've achieved on the hat. The coat area just looks blank to me...like you put in that shape and just filled it with a gradient.
A good job overall. It has a lot of personality:thumbsup:

Thanks for your feedback. Really appreciated, that is (yoda-voice).
So instead of archiving this beauty(:D), I just had to try some adjustments. I hope it was for the better :hmm:
