I have decided to give this ago after finding out about it last week. Great topic and looks like some fun to had by all.
I have been thinking about some ideas and was mucking around drawing and come up with this small scene and characters. I was thinking of fishing and how can this be a strange behaviour and than after looking at a lot of the other entries decided to create a weird set of characters that aren't human.
Have now developed a character that uses his tail to 'fish' out of a tree trying to catch these little four legged things. I was wondering why he would want to catch them and had this weird idea that he caught them and then squeezed stuff out of them (hence the tail looking like a tube type thing) and then ate it. It was a delicasee for him.
The idea of the spikes on the back of the little characters (I have labelled them squirts for now) are there because the collector (the fishing guy) flips them onto there backs and gets them trapped upside down on there own spikes, unable to move from there. He comes down and squeezes out the stuff from inside collecting it in a jar.
Collector is a hebivour and the Squirts are carnivours. So they are dangerous! The next progression is that the collector collects the stuff and feeds it to his tree which he has eaten bare of leaves. This squirt stuff revitalises the tree and leaves grow back straight away. Than the collector can eat. YAY!!!
This is going to be the basic plot of the animation. I don't feel the story is very strong but it will hopefully make for a fun animation.
Plot - Collector lures Squirt over to his tree.
- Collector catches the squirt (on his back)
- Squeezes out the stuff from Squirt. Than releases squirt carefully.
- Feeds squirt stuff to his tree.
- Tree grows back a luscious amount of leaves.
- The end.
Any advice on this simple plot would be great. I have to really get into the swing of things as I am so late at starting. Got to keep it as simple as I can. Even ideas to simplify would be great. Hope it makes some sense.

Here is the collector character design. Thin scrawnish character but with a bit of a pear shaped body still. Longish limbs. A bit like a monkey. I am not to sure about the two front teeth and the ears. I just thought they would be fun to animate (the ears). I have been drawing goofy a bit lately and thats where the ears came from and teeth a little bit. Also long fishing tail. Hope this does not cause problems when it comes to animating.

Squirt drawings. Was thinking of making a big brother squirt but scraped that idea, and will keep them all small and cute but deadly. Bottom left guy is what I would like final to look like.

Drawing showing squirt caught upside down. Unsure weather to make the squirt fight and jiggle trying to escape or make him knocked out, as if he can't go upside down as he falls a sleep or something. Like those old dolls, where there eyes used to close in a lying down pose and then open when standing.

Concept drawing showing Collector pose while 'fishing' from his tree.
Landscape I am thinking will be quite barren and only one tree can be seen. Quite rocky and harsh. Thinking of a road runner and cayote back drop style. Basic 2D plans in back ground.

hey man, this is an interesting idea, and the character design is simply adorable! however, I have to say that I personally prefer the first scene (with the squirt upside down...so cute!) over the latest one, though it too has its merits. Good luck and well done! can't wait to see more!

bluemattersoda: Cheers Bro for the encouragement. About the two scenes, I will actually use both scenes creating an animation that incorporates both moments into the story. I am pretty happy with the characters as well, hopefully they turn out as cute in 3D. fingers crossed.
