Ok So I'm getting a really late start here, but There's still a few months to work here.
As my spare time is limited, I'm not going to go huge with the idea as It would just be setting me up for disaster, but hopefully I'll present something that will appeal to some of you.
Ok for my ideas, I haven't had a chance to look through all the entries yet, so if someone already is doing something close to this someone please correct me. I've tossed this idea around for a while, and I've grown to really like it.
A Vampire giving blood. I really wish it took more than 4 words to explain but really it's going to be that simple. I'm not sure on the surroundings yet, but I'm tossing a few ideas around. Maybe a Blood Drive van parked on a sunny beach with an Awning providing protection from the sun. I don't know yet. Anyways I'm going to work on the base mesh the next few days and I'll get it submitted for you guys.

Ok so friends going out of town and alot of picked up shifts brings me to very little here. Past two days have been my first real chance to do anything besides toss ideas around in my head so Here I bring you my first concept sketch for this project. As you can see I'm not a drawer, but it gets the general idea accross.
I'm wanting to do an old hippie style VW Van converted into a blood drive van on the beach. (Considering putting a lift on it and putting some 54" Mickey Thompsons on it) It will have an awning hanging down for additional shade as I'm going to have the sun setting (but still up) behind the van preventing the sun from reaching the main character.
The Main character shall be a vampire just behind the driver door on a foldable lawn chair, with a bit of an IV looking setup giving blood.
Portraying that he is a vampire will be my biggest obstacle. Deepened eye sockets, flattened nose, pale skin are what i can think of right now. Trying for a relaxed look and the scowling open mouth would just look really horrible with the laid back background in my opinion. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. C&C welcome as always.

Here's the VW van so far. Just getting the base out. Still needing to go in and refine some details, add in some, fix the door window area, probably add in a sliding door etc. . . Bumpers a bit off still, but I'm out of time for the day. Work tonight then two days of modelling hopefully. Family coming up getting outa the way of the upcoming hurricane might take some time out, but ya gotta work with what ya got. C&C welcome and greatly appreciated.

Trying to figure out how the vampires going to look. Was never really a fan of the look of vampires in tv shows like Angel or Buffy with the distorting faces. I wanna go with more of a normal looking person, with few alterations.

Here's some further modeling done as well as a bit of texturing (Floor boards and the plywood behind the seat are temporary textures and wont be used as they were premaid and not my work.) Still have a lot of details to be added (not going to go crazy on inside details as they will be very vaguely seen if at all). Door hinge, Windows, Mirrors and the like. However I'm decently satisfied with what I accomplished in the limited time I had these past few days. Stay Tuned for more.

While working on the van, I had a change of heart on the original idea. Started to think, how fun would it look with a surf board on top of the van and having it house two or three creatures of the night all getting ready for a dusk and night of surfing. After fiddling on paper for a few minutes I came up with ideas for doing a vampire, a werewolf and my own twist on a chupacabra (and I have no idea how to spell that).
For those who have no idea what that last one is, it's a Mexican myth of a creature that goes around sucking the brains out of goats and cows with the rare human or two.
In legend it's a tiny creature probably the size of a medium sized dog. Instead of just tossing him up on the dash like a pet, I wanted him as a part of the trio of surfers, so now he's human sized. Humanish arms with an extra elbow to be able to chupacabra type actions. Three legs somehow (Haven't figured out how I'm going to do that.)
Haven't worked out how I want to have the werewolf yet, but it'll come to me.
Anyways I'm sorry for the quality of my concept images. All I have is a 4 or 5 year old digital camera and even that is better quality than my scanner.
C&C welcome as always.

Here's a bit more work on the van. I'm no where near complete, however I became tired of staring at the van and a change of focus should help me focus back in when I go back.
For now I'm going to model out the first character who I'm thinking will be Driving or just stepping out of the driver side and hopefully show off the fact that he has three legs with an exit only he can make.
Even though he is a myth of Mexico, I'm going to toss him into a Jamaican environment with a bit of a Californian appearance. Surfer spiked looking "hair," and looking like he just got done working out at a beach side gym while waiting for night to allow his buddies to come out.
Still working on the idea a bit. Seeing a Werewolf actually surfing would be a fun bit. As for the vampire, hopefully no priests are around to bless the ocean.

Werewolf surfers with Californian appearance? Sounds interesting!
I agree about the clisje' looking vampires in buffy, could be nice to model a more
normal one fro a cjhange, as you mentioned!
the van looks great by the way!

Here's the head base mesh modeled out of the Chupacabra. Let me know what you guys think so far. I'm really not sure where I thought up how he looks, but so far he's turning out decently. Any ideas are welcome.

Did a little Zbrushing to the chupacabra. Enjoy.
08 August 2007, 09:17 PM
Here's some more of Chupa. Little more detail to the face, added the start of the shirt and arms (already posed). Going to have him at like a 45 degree angle one arm on the steering wheel and one propped back onto the seat. Still gotta figure out the footing setup.
Going in to zbrush the arms and shirt next and then I'll figure out the legs.
Been tossing around Ideas for the placement of the werewolf and vampire. I really do want to have the werewolf actually surfing, but I'm not seeing how I can incorporate everything in one shot since I got way too late of a start to do any real animation, probably just going to be a still.
Maybe have him on top of the van getting the surfboards down. As for vampy I have no idea. I don't know yet. any ideas are welcome.

Here we are, haven't had a whole lot of time lately, but I've gone in and recreated the topology, and added some texture. Still needing to create a specular map. Just learning the ups and downs of Zbrush displacement goodness, so instead of risking severely messing up the detail, I kept him at a decently high polycount. Around 112k polys on just the head with a displacement map to go in and get the detail. Going to make the neck a bit darker on texture and then the face should be done, unless anyone has any ideas on what would make him look a bit better. Anyways, Next it's time to go in and finish the van, then the actual scene backgrounds. I know I'm slacking here, only 58 days left, so if I really crack down I should be able to get a good deal done. Vampire and werewolf shouldn't take as long since I had to spend alot of time figuring out what a chupacabra would actually look like. Anyways C&C welcome and appreciated.

I have to say that I am a little disappointed by the texture, I really liked the modeling, there were something simple, almost cartoon which I liked much. I find that done “heavyoverloaded" a little.
But the basic idea is quite insane that's cool ;)

Started work on the werewolf here. Trying to figure out if I want to go detailed or if I should go with a less overloaded style. Anyways, don't have alot to say this time. Gotta get to work. C&C welcome as always.
- Jayf - Thx for the opinion. I see what you're saying, I may go back and go less on it, just not sure yet at a bit of a Crossroad right now with it. I really want to go back in and make something that looks real, however I have to take into consideration the final image. Have to figure out what is going to work best.

A bit more on the Werewolf. Going to do a quick pass on his exposed body then i'm going to go in and either pose or rig him.
