nothing much in here yet but I'm working on it... :P
here's something I did for some quick painting practice, I'm not sure what I'm planning to do with it but tell me what you guys think.

08 August 2007, 09:59 PM
A quick piece of concept art for my portfolio. I wasn't intentional going for the Davie Jones/Treebeard but hey I think it was fine :P.
I not sure as yet what to do with the mouth area.. perhaps some fur/hair to fill all those gaps.

Comments and crits would be welcomed.

08 August 2007, 11:19 PM

Another quickie, I forced myself to draw heads and hands at odd angles and I'm pretty sure their off but I can't put my finger on what.

08 August 2007, 05:56 PM
a quickie in Photoshop
Inspired by a experience I had on the tube.

Fight the Flab

08 August 2007, 07:40 PM

Go Towards The Light

another quick sketch. I was thinking to modelling this in 3d.

08 August 2007, 04:49 PM

newest thing that I probably wont finish.

08 August 2007, 09:16 PM
haha these are great! love them! :scream:

Man that baby is workin it!! lol Are you finishing the first girl? She is lookin hott so far...would like to see her finished. One crit on her though is I believe her torso is too long. ON the second girl I really like the pose and perspective...but I think it would look a bit better if her head was tilted back a little bit more. Other then that great job on everything. i hope you update often!

08 August 2007, 12:25 AM
Hey nerdyninja, thanks for the comments :) much appreciated!
I've pretty much painted out the entire body of the first girl but still I have no idea what to do with it, I've tried putting her at a beach Bonfire but that didn't turn out very well and it was abit creepy :P. I've got an new idea with on an asteroid..I'll see how that turns out. I guess the only reason I painted it was well like you said; 'she looks Hot':P
The second Girl, yeah I see what we mean about the face. lol I just noticed that her leg seems to have bad case of rickets because the foot is way off. :scream: (

Anyways thanks again for the comments and I'll try at least to update once week.

08 August 2007, 12:29 AM
my latest piece, I'm quite happy with it but a little disappointed on how long I took on it. I was hoping to do it in about 90 mins or and ended up taking 4 hours  I really need to work on my productivity and workflow.

08 August 2007, 10:54 PM
hehe yeah that would be creepy with her in front of a bonfire. lol

The last guy looks pretty good. But yeah four I think just the eyesockets need to be a little bit darker with more depth.

08 August 2007, 11:39 PM
lol yeah I think I spent more time watching too much mid-day tv than work on it  (
but hey you can never have enough information on breast enlargement surgery :p :surprised (

here's the latest quick sketch that managed to do in about 90 minutes or so.
I wasn't trying to make the Hulk but it just turned out that way cos of the green

08 August 2007, 04:55 PM
I like it! Looks very zombish like. I know what you mean about the green. i made a pastel drawing in green and everyone was like THE HULK...Im like no no. lol

hehe yeah gotta love that informative tv!

09 September 2007, 03:35 PM
thanks for the comments Nerdyninja, much appreciated

newest painting, it's still got abit to go and I'll probably post the finish one at the end of today or maybe on the weekend.

09 September 2007, 08:28 PM
wow this is looking really nice so far! Impressive my friend! ;) The bumps on the forehead (brow area) seems a bit strange though...anyway i know you arent finished and i cant wait to see it cleaned up more!

09 September 2007, 12:35 PM
lol I never did get around to painting the rest of that picture on the weekend, I went out and when i returned to it I seem to have lost my momentum on it. Anywho I'll hopefully have it up by the end of today (that is if I can keep my concentration on it :P )
Here some little sketches that I did at the National Gallery. I always spend a few minutes now and then just to take a look at all the paints and this time I decided to sketch a few.

Samson and Deiliah by Rubens

I wish I could have spent more time on these but with all the people blocking my view and bus load of tourist schoolchild looking over my shoulder while I drew (don't you just hate that) didn't really help.

I have few more but I'm have scanner trouble.

09 September 2007, 08:05 PM
Excuses excuses!!! :D lol

Yeah i know what you mean about losing momentum...i have like 20 things that i have never finished but would like to one day! lol

Wow these sketches are really badass! Yeah I do hate it when people stare over your shoulder while you draw...makes you feel like a freak on display or somethin...haha!

09 September 2007, 12:24 AM
Excuses excuses!!! lol
hey I have a valid excuses...... I just can't think of one yet...:P

lol :DI must have the attention span of a goldfish because every five minutes or so I find myself slowly turning and looking out the window when I should be painting :banghead: It's not that I'm not enjoying it because I really am but I'm on a tedious bit that needs small tweaks here and there. That said I've breezed through most of it and am almost done on it but I've got other 3D projects that take precedent and there's no need to rush it...(so you'll maybe see it by the end of this week?... :P :surprised)

Oh BTW thanks nerdyninja for your kind comments on the sketches, I've done few more on the Tube of passengers but then I got few funny looks so I pretended that I was doing the sudoku instead :D

09 September 2007, 08:27 AM
Nice work :) I especially like the first woman sketch and the portrait (profile) using an orange color scheme. There are some little anatomy issues that can be easily fixed but they look very promising. Are you planning to finish them? :)

09 September 2007, 05:55 PM
Thanks Dianae :) I am planning to finish them but it's just a lack of inspiration on the woman sketch that's delaying it.

here's the what I've done on the Buddhist monk. I'm still not happy with the head; the eye and jaw line need attention, also the head was done in different style compared to the rest of the body. The head had free, quick and wispy brush stokes, whereas the body done with a heavy-thick brush with alot of blending. I think of nuking the head and starting again:shrug: Any thoughts?

09 September 2007, 03:32 PM
update on the monk face still not happy with it, but I'm not sure how to improve it.

09 September 2007, 06:23 PM
I dont think the head looks bad...the drawing is very nice..the body is looking good but the hand holding the beads is very strange looking. on the face i dont think i would restart i think adding some larger brush strokes and making the face more 'crisp' will help because right now its looking a tad blurry. I would say if you still dont like it after that then use it for something else and make a new head for this body...Keep on truckin!!

09 September 2007, 12:06 AM
thanks nerdyninja :) I was thinking the same about the hand but secretly hoping no one would notice... Damn you! (shakes fist in the air) :p:D I hate doing hands and I never seem to get them right, but I think it's time to call it a day for this project. I've added more detail to the head and tried to fix the hand but not happy with it still (I'll maybe go back to it when I have more time) Anywho here it is.

09 September 2007, 07:14 AM
Excellent work so far!
I think that the problem is the wrist and forearm, not really the hand (although it could be slightly bigger).
Very nice work on the fabric and right hand!

09 September 2007, 09:57 PM
Thanks Dianae :) you're right it's not the hand but the forearm that's off. I've tried repositioning it along with making the hand big. I've done a quick sketch to show where it's been corrected.. not sure if it's right still.

I've posted to new final version in my cg gallery thread, tell me what you think :)

09 September 2007, 11:37 PM
re-worked version.
I changed to colour theme slightly but I'm not sure which one looks better this one or the earlier one.

09 September 2007, 05:23 AM
I absolutely love the job you did on the monk's cloak. Really high quality work; it looks better than your reference, which is always a good indicator! I wonder if the face just needs a tad more contrast or darker shadows around the eyes. Right now the back of the head is the high contrast area and my eye keeps getting drawn to it instead.

As a personal preference, I preferred your original, more graphic background with the bold strokes of yellow - again, its about what catches my eye...

09 September 2007, 03:44 PM
Lookin good! I also like the yellow bkg better. :) Also like the sailor tattoo! :D hehe

09 September 2007, 08:37 PM
thanks DArcy1, I think your right about the shadowing on the face, I think it lost some of the contrast when I desaturated the colours. I was hoping to work on this face and add more detail to the background especially after the events that are currently happing in Burma with the Monks protest. It's a very sad situation going on there and the lack of information on the monks is not a good thing.

hey nerdyninja, sorry I haven't been hosting more sketches this week but it's been an ..@!. of a week :P
and yeah I like the yellow Bkg but I tend to go OTP when it comes to bright colours, I always like to mute the colours, in this case it was a bad move cos I lost that Sunlight contrast on the rode. Damn whenever I think I've Finished this painting I get sucked back it :p (

BTW his an ex-navy Monk ;) ( (

10 October 2007, 04:09 PM
Wow that is a new combo..i have never heard of a ex navy
yeah that is really sad about the monks...

Well Im still waiting for updates!! :scream:

11 November 2007, 01:10 AM
I've been down with the flu/cold for what seems like months anywho finally got back to painting. here's what I've done while I recoup.

11 November 2007, 09:44 PM
didn't make much progress on this since I've been working other projects, but here's what I've done so far. tell me what you think.

11 November 2007, 05:54 PM
oh man that is going to be great! I think its looking great! Is he jumping off of a roof top?

11 November 2007, 12:45 AM
the background up for changing but yeah he's jumping, the only reason I started this is because I found a photo of me doing something similar, me jumping of the sofa with my 'Toys R us' tarpaulin like red cape wrap over my shoulders. Ah.. those were the days.. when you think you can defy gravity.. Of course it hurts when you realise you can't, but still... :wise: (

11 November 2007, 04:08 PM
hehe well i think you are going to have a lot of fun with this! ....what if he was jumping off of something ridiculous like a stack of crap...boxes, chairs, and all kinds of stuff stacked up and he is jumping off it ...meanwhile (in a depth of field view) his mom is in the back going nooooo as she is running towards him. HAHA! Anways that is just a thought i had. You can take it or throw it back at me! (as in the words of The Anchorman) :bounce:

03 March 2008, 12:08 PM
sorry that I haven't been updating lately, but I've been busy with "other stuff" but I hope to get some work up by the weekend.

06 June 2008, 06:59 PM
lol well I guess I didn't get the work up by the weekend. (, :P
I've decided to take your advice about the jump off the table nerdyninja :)
Still barely worked on it and it's taken alot of effort to remain motivated but I' soldiering on slowly.

here's a wip.

06 June 2008, 07:12 PM
When will kids learn that in order to fly like superman you need to be from krypton?

I think you should have him jumping of a roof, itīs funnier.

I think the right side of his face need mor volume, also his eyes look too different from each other.

If youīre keeping the kitchen setting, make him look mor elike heīs jumping from the table, right now itīs a bit ambigous...

09 September 2008, 05:33 PM
thanks arielmedel. lol that won't stop them trying. :P

I've final finished it and decided to go with the roof in the end. I'm not sure about it since it was on my to do list then I just slapped it together.

final piece is here:

10 October 2008, 01:47 AM
ahhaahha this is so funny!!!
Your style in painting is really cool...and I'm so curious to see the next steps of your last painting!! :D

11 November 2008, 02:38 PM
thanks alicelefay :D
I'm not sure if you mean that you'll liked to see thee wip version of the last pic or the final version. if it's the latter then here you go: if not then I'm sure I can make a wip animated gif with all the steps that I used.

here's another project that's been "delayed" for along time. I was just wondering if I can get some advice on Mario's facial expression. I want him to look surprised and stunned but I feel the moustache really hinders that look. First I tried the classic Mario tache that curves upwards but that makes him look... hmmm. I'm not sure, sort of laugh'n. I've tried the downward curving one and that I feel corrects it so he's got that stunned look but it also loses that Mario look and makes him slightly Mexican. :P Tell me what you guys and gals think:

tache1; the classic Mario upward waving moustache.

Or Tache 2; the downward frowning one

01 January 2009, 10:52 AM
I just love your super"man" one :D

My fav for your mario piece is definatly the curving up one , he does look more mario to me that way,and good expression!

02 February 2009, 10:15 PM
tache up it is :D
here's some progress I've made on it. I could do with some crit on it, especially on Princess peach's eye line; I want her to look at Mario with embarrassed look but I'm not sure about it.

close up on Peach
slightly crossed eyed?

02 February 2009, 09:22 AM
She has a questioning look about her... it goes the right way but feels like you are not completely committed to this facial expression... the eyes and the mouth are telling a different story.
I believe this is going to be a sex image is it not? If so, I don't think you want her to look embarrassed, but shy and expecting, what is a better description of her current look. But if that is what you are going for I would say let the mouth laugh just a tiny bit more, so she looks committed. And the eyebrows need to be a little more subtle.

If you go for embarrassed I would recommend her looking from under her eyelids, or out of the corners of her eyes to show she'd rather not be watching... some red about the cheeks will do this good too. And the mouth is probably a little too laughing.

Hope this helps you. For more help try googling some anime pictures, those guys are usually quite good at embarrassed. (or all slightly comic exaggerated facial expressions for that matter)

Greetings and you have a lovely style. Better than the previous image, which lacks a bit of contrast for me.

Keep going!

02 February 2009, 05:16 PM
thanks for the crit matsman, I've worked on it too closely so it's nice to get a fresh eyes on it. played with her expression hopefully it's better.

02 February 2009, 09:17 PM
Good to hear that... I always feel the slightest bit embarrassed when criticising :)
Because who am I to judge what people do. Luckily no one ever feels that way about my critiques, or at least they don't say it.

Probably misplaced feelings since this is a place where people come to hear others.
All right enough with the philosophy already!

It is lots better... love the new eyebrows.
I am not quite sure you changed the mouth but I do believe you did. I can see a very subtle change in her right (our left) mouth corner or are my eyes betraying me.

Looking forward to seeing the whole image... should be interesting to say the least.

02 February 2009, 12:54 AM
Your Crit is very much welcomed and don't feel embarrassed heck I feel embarrassed when asking for crit and no one answers :p. To be honest like I said before when you work on something for a long time it's always good to hear other people's advice. As along as you don't go all Simon Cowell and make cry I'm fine with it.:p:D

I did change the mouth slightly by widening it and more of a fake smile type thing going on. Although I'm kinda fearful going back painting over something and messing it up, so baby steps for now.

02 February 2009, 10:14 PM
A little update, spent way too much time on the overalls and crotchal area... Anywho moving on.. :p
