I've been playing around with the problem with additive-subtractive blendshape fixes - that works well until you start rotating your character. So I came up with a solution that is quite simple and thought I might share it with you.
It uses a very simple script that you can download here and here are the links to a video tutorial as well.
Place the script in the maya/(version)/scripts folder. To run it type "blendShapeFixWorkaround" in the command line. For more detailed explantion on how to use it, check out the video.
