Ok finally entered this thing. The idea comes from a short animation I've wanted to do for some time, this gives me an excuse to get the models ready. Basically, its amonkeys worst nightmare come true!

Sweeeet!! Now you realize once you start this... you have to finish! Those are some great sketches man; I cant wait to see them finished!

07-19-2007, 05:12 PM
I love the spirit of the sketch. Funny yet a bit freaky as well.....and slangie is right....gotta finish it now! :)

07-19-2007, 05:14 PM
Reminds me of a dream I once had, only instead of a giant bananna, it was a bunch of guys dressed as fruit, and instead of chasing a monkey they were chasing me, shouting where are your underwear! Where are your underwear!! You know what? Now that I think of it, I guess they arent too similar! LOL Good stuff man! Can't wait to see the finished product!

07-19-2007, 05:59 PM
Thanks guys... I know I gotta finish it, but so do you! Hey Don that is a freakin weird dream man... I guess you were scared of those fruit of the loom commercials, that they showed way back. I remember thinking when I was a kid... what does fruit have to do with underwear anyway... getting off topic tho.

Here is a character sheet for the monkey.

07-19-2007, 06:04 PM
Character sheet for the bannana, though I think I will make his teeth more gnarley.

07-19-2007, 06:06 PM
And finally a sketch for my environment. Though for the comp I will probably only model a tree or tree branch at minimum.

07-20-2007, 06:38 PM
Ha! Awesome sketches. I especially like the mutant banana. Very original. Is it going to be a night and day scene? Night does seem like it'd be the better choice with the potential for glowing eyes and all.

Hiho Jason,

stunning sketches and this Horror Banana makes me grin from one ear to the other :)

Updating my concept with color... think previz is done now I gotta get modeling.

07-23-2007, 01:19 PM
~sorry: double post~

07-23-2007, 01:19 PM
Hey guys thanks for the comments... And yes Santo its goanna be a night scene, as you can see from the color study, and I liked your idea about the glowing eyes so I put that in.

07-23-2007, 01:19 PM
Nice.... Keep it up! I cant wait to see the models.

07-23-2007, 01:32 PM
Great!! Good to see some color in your sketches man! And i can't wait to see the models as well! Keep it coming!!

07-23-2007, 08:29 PM
great sketchwork. Really giving a good idea of the character and personality for your subjects. Should be a really fun one to do!

07-24-2007, 08:48 PM
I like the concept drawings and the color study. The partly peeled freak banana
looks really cool... this would be a nice effect for animation.
Monkey finds huge banana, gets very very happy, starts peeling it...

07-25-2007, 04:56 AM
Yo Jason, tight sketches. The concept and characters are very original. 3d Land should be fun for this one.

07-25-2007, 01:13 PM
xioncajou: Thanks.... Dunno if Illl show the peeled bannana for the competition. But I might go for the gusto, but I think there is no way that I can complete my entire short. We'll see though.

Brian: Hey man thanks alot! So when are you joining us in this thing man!

07-25-2007, 01:21 PM
Very cool sketches so far. Just one thing, keep in mind to have some foreground elements and some otheres between the main tree and the background, that could help you improve the atmosphere and also could be some secondary animation. Keep it up mate!

07-26-2007, 06:30 AM
Thats very spectacular indeed, very original. I am waiting for the modeling phase.

07-26-2007, 06:35 PM
Ha! This is going to be a fun one to watch progress!

08-06-2007, 12:41 PM
Ok Finally took some time to get some work done. Here are some WIP images of the monkey. I put alot of the fur texture into the map, but I palan to still use fur on top, and especially on top of his head. Maybe this way I can get away with using a less dense fur.

08-06-2007, 12:42 PM
fully textured

08-06-2007, 01:05 PM
looks like a monkey! Success! Now let's see that f'd up banana of yours. :)

08-06-2007, 02:11 PM
Finally! Its about time we get to see something.... :D

Good job so far... but I might consider rounding out the corner of the eyes. I think it would make him alittle kinder look. You also might want to remove some of the black/dirt stuff from his nose area.... kinda looks like he stuck his nose in a fire place. :D
Anyway, Great Job so far!! Cant wait to see more!

08-06-2007, 02:56 PM
Hey...the monkey looks pretty cool...i like a lot the idea!...i will wait to see the banana!:scream:

Hey I took your advice Sean and simplified the texture on his nose and mouth some. Im not gonna adjust his eye shape. I will save that for when I create some expressions for him. Thanks for the crits I really appreciate them.

08-07-2007, 06:40 PM
This monkey looks like he likes to cause trouble! Almost like he deserves to be chased by a giant mutant bannana! I look forward to seeing this fellow run for his monkey life!
