Well, I want to ask whether we are allowed or not to join the contest with a character designed all before the challenge started?

hi ,

You cant join the challenge with a character designed before the challenge. You have to draw a new one for the challenge and show your progress here.

good luck ,

Here is a failure scene sketch of my hapless superhero. He had been living a peaceful life and spending his retirement by reading Tolkien novels, since one day he decided to challenge againist the evil of the world and became a modern Don Quijote. He has made up the name Aglarrandir from his Middle-Earth languages dictionary which means: Victorious Traveller.
Soon, I'll write a complete bio for him, now just sketching.

I'm thinking about new ideas and making new sketching but I need some comments first, please.

cool, I like Quixote and I like Tolkien too :buttrock:

Thanks Russo, it will be nice if I can mix both as a more understandable concept. Don Quijote had been gone mad under effect of the chivalry romances of his time, just like today's popular fantasy-fiction and role playing games.

Hmm, Aglarrandir is also influenced by Tolkien's environmental ideology, he used to struggle againist pollution, also social injustice and globalization before he had gone mad. Then all of the evil of the world united under the idea of his great enemy, the darkness of Mordor and Sauron.

Now I'm making some facial studies about the character, soon I'll post them here...

Well, I managed to colour these facial studies... It took quite a long time -I still couldn't get a graphic pad and do the job with mouse- but keep working as hard as I can to get a good result on the design.

There are still lots of things to discover and explain about him, his personality, behaviours, costume, equipment...etc.
But again and please, I am waiting your replies and comments for a better wip project...

can't see the image!

There should be a problem about the link to the geocities server.
Here is the image :

I also added links under the images. You can see pictures by clicking. Geocities server seems not to allow using images in messages.
Soon I'll get the pics on allowing adresses.

he reminds someone I don't remember who... maybe someone without the beard.. Gandalf? hahaha

04-10-2003, 05:44 PM
Well, I intentionally made such a mutant-hat to give that image.
he's not just an old man acting like Gandalf. Gandalf is such a role like what Amadis or Rolando is for Don Quijote, moreover I will use more of Gandalf influence to create a more understandable concept. So I'm thinking of a failure like Gandalf's in the first book but of course in a humourous way, letting people see he's simply acting Gandalf. But again this is not just a childish wish or hope to be the admirable character, a reaction of an imaginative rpg player to the corrupted world, simply an innocence and madly challenge to save the world before it's totally destroyed by the human being.

Here is an illustration describing the costume and equipment of Aglarrandir Turamarth.

The link for the image. (

1-) Reconstructed wizard hat

2-) Goggles as far-sighted glasses
(He has problems about seeing due to his age.)

3-) Cloak, resisting warmth, light and air

4-) Mithril sweater (paternal power!)

5-) Both lance & magic staff separated from the traffic sign

6-) Shield with the symbol of Hornburg

7-) Daily wear of the retired man.
(Well, these don't have any special powers.)

I feel the need of giving some more info about the character.

Aglarrandir "Victorious Traveller" (sindarin:aglar+randir)
Turamarth "Lord of Misfortune" (sindarin:tur+amarth)

Long before he decided to leave home for adventure, he had found the name Aglarrandir from his Middle Earth Languages Dictionary for a role playing game character. After he visualized the game as a reality and united the player character with himself, the name appeared as his own. Following the endless failures and disappointments, he admitted giving himself a second name; Turamarth.

He was an old man spending his retirement with tolkien novels and
rp games, which urged him to adopt the idea of the conflict between
good and evil. Later he began to explain all sorrowful incidents as the
darkness of Mordor. Finally, he was a player character in a world
existing in his own head. He decided to travel and challenge againist
injustice and cruelty, like a modern Don Quijote.
