View Full Version : Linux Display Help!

Ok, I've downloaded Red Hat Linux and it installed real nice and error free unlike some OS's (i.e. Windows). But my problem is that I love my dual monitor setup in windows and I want to have dual monitors in Linux as well. I read the How-to on how to get it working, but I was written for someone with a degree in Linux programming (something I don't plan on getting). I just want to use Linux to run Maya and Wings3d. So this is my call for help! If you could write a small how-to on how to set-up my card for dual monitors I would be extremely grateful. Remember, Iím Linux illiterate so you must use small words!

Here is what I have to work with...

AMD Athlon 1.4 GHz (OC)
Asus Motherboard
blaah blaah blaah......
MSI GeForce 4 Ti 4200 8x AGP (Newest Drivers)
Two 17" Elements Monitors (They Are Crap BTW!)

I have Windows and Linux setup as a dual boot also.

So if you can have pity on me I would be extremely grateful!

Firstly, I'm guessing you haven't installed the full nVidia drivers from here ( Download the documentation (the PDF is 1.8Mb but very well presented) and look at page 49 "XF86Config Twinview Options: Introduced in Release 6". This should answer all your questions about enabling the second display etc.

If you don't want to view with xpdf or ggv, Acrobat Reader for Linux is available from this page ( on
