View Full Version : Strange Behavior (Animation) Entry: Anders Ehrenborg

06 June 2007, 03:23 PM
Anders Ehrenborg is entered in the "Strange Behavior Challenge" update: View Challenge Page (

Latest Update: Shading (Textured and lit): mama (

06 June 2007, 03:28 PM (

hello challengers!

i will try to make an image with a ~John Bauer feel, but with more crazy characters.
despite the toony concepts, i will try to make a mix of cartoony shapes and realistic textures later, once i start 3d(like som characters on my old website)

strange behaviours and scene ideas coming later. I just feelt like doing some characters sketches as a warmup.

06 June 2007, 03:50 PM
Another thread to comment on!? And you said m@ was like virtuoso.... Tsk!

Awesome! how do you do these things...........I love them........truly you are the greatest, best, most amazing artist in the world! you have been given the gift of creativity from the hands of the creator himself........please tell me how you make everything so perfect....amazing ebayer A++++++++++

Seriously though, you are one of the most gifted artists for not only creating wonderfully stylistic cartoon characters but successfully turning them into great 3D models too. Not to mention I love John Bauer...

So, I genuinely look forward to seeing what comes next.

Good luck!

i am very impatient to see more!!! send a big bisous back to everyone at teamto :)

07 July 2007, 11:25 PM (

i'm thinking it could be fun to do this pic with a frog-eye composition and with a more realistic character/environment. but maybe that would become to disgusting..

07 July 2007, 09:53 AM
A better idea, no shit on that !

07 July 2007, 10:42 AM
...but maybe that would become to disgusting..

Isnīt disgustingness your goal? lol, I like your thread and I enjoyed your online portfolio a lot. So far so good. But afterall, yes shit might be too much... Maybe try to "show it unexposed" through some kind of situation...

07 July 2007, 11:28 AM
Isnīt disgustingness your goal? lol, I like your thread and I enjoyed your online portfolio a lot. So far so good. But afterall, yes shit might be too much... Maybe try to "show it unexposed" through some kind of situation...

Maybe you should think about that.

07 July 2007, 01:42 PM
yah, i would feel sick modeling/texturing poo in 3d, so worry not. my final scene will be something more clever than poo :D

07 July 2007, 01:54 PM
yah, i would feel sick modeling/texturing poo in 3d, so worry not. my final scene will be something more clever than poo :D

No ! We would like something dirty !
ok, no matter, do what you think, I think your sketches brought something, I will not say "refreshing" after the last sketch, fun !

07 July 2007, 03:45 PM
yah, i would feel sick modeling/texturing poo in 3d...

now, that can be challenge! :deal:

07 July 2007, 03:52 PM
me likes!
just... if you're going to go after realism, you might want to scrub forward in the story a second. Like this:
(Don't forget the chunkets of nuts.)

07 July 2007, 06:55 PM
ahaha! now all he needs is some poo around his mouth dripping from his foot!! :argh: enough poo for me, i'm already disgusted :D

thanks for the laugh David! long time no see btw. everything going well in germany? any plans on joining the fun? :p

yea it definitely would :D

yea i think it can be fun for a short while but ppl will think i'm an imature fart!(maybe I am.... :hmm: ) :D

07 July 2007, 07:19 PM
yea i think it can be fun for a short while but ppl will think i'm an imature fart!(maybe I am.... :hmm: ) :D

Immaturity is the only thing left when we are mature enough...

07 July 2007, 09:52 PM (

good, then I'm mature :D

here is another one. i have almost decided i wanna do the troll mama, but what strange behaviour she will have is not finalised just yet. or maybe it is..

07 July 2007, 09:53 PM
Love the last one :) Go for it!

07 July 2007, 11:02 PM
Yeah, I agree... This latest idea could be really great! Can't wait to see how you progress...

07 July 2007, 11:06 PM
hohoho, grow baby! cool idea, mate! go for it!

07 July 2007, 06:19 AM
I Vote for this one !

07 July 2007, 06:21 AM
Hi fellah! I'm having a great time here. Goro is down the hall - and the whole hall is filled with great people. Its like living in a festival.
I'm in this challenge. Very secretive. Shhh.... ;-)

07 July 2007, 08:51 AM
you're everywhere anders...illustration and anim. Good luck.
This last sketch is really funny. I like it.

07 July 2007, 12:23 PM
Loving your concept and designs, and im a big fan of John Bauer so looking forward to watching your progress!

07 July 2007, 12:28 PM
:) very nice style, great illustrator.

07 July 2007, 02:13 PM
Mmm... slippery!

I can't believe you're doing two entries... it makes me wail with jealousy that you've got the time!:scream:

07 July 2007, 02:46 PM
Ahhh... that is real cute, Troll mama will be a heartbreaker for sure, but perhaps not as skitkul as the previous sketch :D

07 July 2007, 10:01 PM
I think the last one is much better than the shit one...

07 July 2007, 08:57 AM
HI Anders,
Its the 1sth time I see your style!Fantastic!!!.. very stylish for 3 d I love it, also my fav, as in concept so far its the 1sth one since I like simple relationships that are easy to relate with and they also guive a wider field for madness!

The big guy its funy but a bit ovious allready and not so unexpected maybe as the 1sth one.
You allready are haveing fun but keep it, that way it is looking great!

07 July 2007, 06:11 PM
Really cool concept...keep going!

07 July 2007, 10:31 AM
thanks alot everyone!! i think i will go with the last idea, but change the background to something with a theme that fits and adds to the story more(thanks to tips from my kompis Mathias Verhasselt)

getting payed to be at a festival woaw.. nah, I am really glad you are having a blast there!! say hey to Goro!(maybe there are other ppl i know at the same place?)

don't be jelous, i just took time where there was none. i will have to suffer like... now... :D

here is a slight update to the troll mamas design. nothing mayor, mainly some cloth addition and a change of jaw and chin. (

07 July 2007, 06:15 PM
What a great funny characters :)

I really like your idea.
Keep it up and goodluck.

07 July 2007, 06:19 PM
Looks really good. Thats going to be really fun to see later on. keep it up :D

07 July 2007, 08:58 PM
love the troll mama.
this one really cracked me up.

07 July 2007, 10:18 PM
Love your style!

07 July 2007, 06:29 AM
Hi Anders!

Your characters rock, You've got a style of your own!

07 July 2007, 02:25 PM (

thanks guys! :)

here is the first modeling wip. the mudboxing is kinda temp and took only 15-20 min. didn't wanna spend to much time on that as the face is still not unwrapped!
anyhow, crits and comments are ofcourse welcome.

07 July 2007, 02:29 PM
Great job !
Modeling is cool. You manage to keep the spirit of your sketch.
I can't wait for the next step even if I know that I will have to wait...a little...

07 July 2007, 02:47 PM
pure sweet modeling.

The cartoonish style still remains with the perfect detail. Will be a killer.

07 July 2007, 03:09 PM
Great sculpt!
So on model its beyond model. Nice!

07 July 2007, 04:40 PM
o gooddy!!:bounce:... go fellah go!! its looking good:thumbsup:

07 July 2007, 06:11 PM
This is a great one fellah! I love the style and the effort to stay in that style in 3D. Not too much critique from me so far so I'll wait to see more as you continue on....

07 July 2007, 06:24 PM
hella nice as usual, fellah! ;)

07 July 2007, 09:24 PM

So much of details, this will be great character, I mean she's already great.

Mama troll looks so thender. :)

07 July 2007, 10:31 PM
Anders that modeling is really impressive. Just to know what is on her nose (I like it even I 'm not sure of the reference) ? Is it like a chimney ?
A (good/bad?) idea. Your picture is about growth (baby and plants), As the plant felling is really onthe focus on the picture and as your mama as a very potatoes like nose, maybe you can made tiny plants growthing from it (or just from the pimple ). here 's a link to be understandable :

It doesn't have to be enormou, but maybe just 1 or 2 can accentuate the mix between human and plants.

07 July 2007, 01:38 AM
I think it's a mushie on that nose LOL... I like it so far, really funny...not quite to keen on that pinching around the base of the mushroom, makes her nose feel a bit like a sausage...

07 July 2007, 02:36 AM
I love the model face and the mushroom in her nouse.. I think its looking fantastic allready

07 July 2007, 06:48 AM
Hey Fellah !!

Woaaa , it looks awesome ! very creepy and funny at the same time !
I really dig your style !
Can't wait for more

cheers ,

07 July 2007, 08:02 AM
Excellent start!

Again, you've managed to completely capture the style of your conept, but in 3D...

God I envy you.

07 July 2007, 08:44 AM
here is the first modeling wip. the mudboxing is kinda temp and took only 15-20 min. didn't wanna spend to much time on that as the face is still not unwrapped!
anyhow, crits and comments are ofcourse welcome.

wt...? Compare to my first modeling wip, which took me 10 times longer than what yours, I am speachless. 20 minutes with this amount of details? Where do I live? ...congratulations

edit: Is that topology ready for facial animation?

07 July 2007, 10:43 AM
The model is coming out good and the nose is the best part for me.

07 July 2007, 02:26 PM
hahaha fellah you killing me, she lookz fantastic. the nose is super cool, cheerz...

07 July 2007, 08:36 AM
thanks everyone!!

as others already pointed out before me, its a mushroom. maybe i will place more of them on her body. kinda like the shells and sea things on the characters in pirates of the caribbean. i like your idea and will see how i can implement it later, i love when ppl bring ideas!

yea, i tend to agree with the nose pinching on the top. i will take care of that.

it was only the mudboxing which went that fast, and its not really a lot of mudboxing. i already had a pretty good base that took much longer than 20 min to do :)
here is the wireframe of the current model, ready for facial animation.

07 July 2007, 10:15 AM
Well, to be honest, my jaw dropped on the floor, looking at the character's head.

Mushroom made me laugh out loud!

Man, will I enjoy this thread as you go along...

07 July 2007, 01:37 PM
Hahaha...i love that mushroom... Very nice modeling,
iīm really looking forward seeing her in action.

07 July 2007, 05:12 PM
Hey fellah! Really liked your concepts, and the modelling is turning out just great! Can't wait to see more of mamma troll!

Congrats, good luck and keep going!

07 July 2007, 08:18 PM
Very impressive work, good topology.

07 July 2007, 09:10 PM
Whoa. This is looking faboo! What are you program are you using for the modeling? Can we see a shot of the mesh? Love your work.

Ha! While I was typing you posted the mesh and mentioned mudbox. Really great.

07 July 2007, 09:44 PM
Hey nice start with modeling....i love the nose...keep working like this:beer:

07 July 2007, 12:20 PM
Wow! Youre really getting the John Bauer vibe into your modelling -im bowled over!

07 July 2007, 09:24 AM

I really like to see you animate these stuff man, you MUST do it.

07 July 2007, 10:25 AM
Wow, very nice. I'm a fan!
The sketches already have so much life in them.
And the face is just.. perfect. Kept simple, every trait is important, and such a pleasure observing it! Thanks :)

And good luck!

07 July 2007, 10:01 PM

07 July 2007, 06:55 AM

07 July 2007, 05:29 PM

Ha ha the character design and you have some top-notch modeling and sculpting work there!

Definitely have to keep an eye on this thread. :)

07 July 2007, 01:35 AM
thanks A LOT everyone! I didn't expect such response to the modeling but it makes me happy to see.

haha relax ;) real life catched up on me. got some work to finish up, then I will be back harder than before!

I will I will! ...if you count a camera pan as animation... ;) hopefully more, i will see what time allows.

hahah yea the smurfs are just my cover up so ppl won't find my real challenge entry!! ;)

07 July 2007, 12:01 AM
hey you're in modeling too????thats awesome......the oldi one looks.....hehe...cute n lovely:love:
ila's Right...animate it:thumbsup:

07 July 2007, 02:29 AM
This is great. It reminds me of one of the face-wall mounts that squirt water out of there mouths when you pull its string.

07 July 2007, 12:30 PM
simply excellent.
can't wait to see your shading/lightning step fellah.

07 July 2007, 03:42 PM
That troll lady looks great in 3d :). I had some ideas revolving around watering myself, but i see you were first. Good for you :). Good luck

07 July 2007, 06:15 PM
I just had to take out some time to tell u that you've done an awesome job modeling that head so far. The model's mass and proportions look awesome along with the details. Question: The concept has a very cartoonish approach but the model is moe in the realm of realism, Which approach will you take?

07 July 2007, 08:42 AM
lazyyyyyyyyyy stop playhing and work !!

and watch toy story !!!

08 August 2007, 04:19 PM (

thanks everyone!

I think i will go with a mix. kinda like the forest characters on my web.

I have had to much work lately to really work on this. but here is a little update to show that i'm not out of the game just yet.

i will detail him a little more later. but i don't think i will use any mudboxing on this character.

08 August 2007, 09:07 PM

hey fellah.. awesome job man.. keep em coming man

08 August 2007, 11:40 PM
It looks so cool....nice progress

08 August 2007, 02:41 AM
i have no idea where this one came from but damn anders that's superb work here. keep it up. ill definatly stalk this here page.

08 August 2007, 03:04 AM
Great work fellah!! I'm loving the texture on the lady's clothes. Really nice touch!

I like the design continuity you have going as well. May I suggest making the old lady's arms a bit saggy? You know, that old woman hanging fat thing? May conflict with the proportional design you have, but thought it may be worth a mention.

08 August 2007, 03:58 AM
Wow! Those are some really great model. Awesome job one the mushroom nose. I really like the concept art too. It reminds me of the witch from Looney Tunes.

Look forward to seeing more from you.

08 August 2007, 04:38 AM
on the "baby"make the dirt a grass so that you dont need the box and you can cover it up that way and it still makes sense and it will look better than a box where his twig and berries should be

08 August 2007, 08:02 AM
Still excellent !
The add of fur on the dress gives an amazing touch ! Nice job Anders !

08 August 2007, 09:25 AM
That is.... juicy! Can't wait to see what expression you put on her!

08 August 2007, 06:42 PM
it's lookin gr8 man!! keep it up ;p

08 August 2007, 10:17 PM
really great character you've done there! and this is sure a loving grandma! more, more! ;)

08 August 2007, 02:03 PM
if the nose look like a dick...

it's from fellah for sure :)

08 August 2007, 04:11 PM
the materials are admirable
I like it a lot, nothing to criticize.

08 August 2007, 10:49 PM
thanks everyone! :)

here is another update.

her face will get lots more work later(babys to).
eyes are closed because i havenīt modeled any eyes yet.
arms are just in their blockigng stage.
c&c welcome!

I really like the fabric textures -- particularly the subtle fuzz on the woman's sweater. Nice job on that.

08 August 2007, 01:21 PM
Very Promising. I hope you'll got the time to finish it.

08 August 2007, 01:10 AM
Well well well this is a suprise i thought id never see another post from the great fellah !

Been a long time good to see you still can model (lol jk) i will now be keeping my eye on this thread
keep up the good work

08 August 2007, 10:16 AM
Hey people & Fellah's fan.

08 August 2007, 01:50 PM

I`m looking forward to see mooooore :bounce:

09 September 2007, 04:09 PM
thanks everyone! sorry for the long delay, i have been on vacation for the last 2.5weeks and not been close to a computer since.

good idea for the arms, i will give it a try!

yea you're right, there will probably be grass or flowers covering his little penis.

riiiiight, and you are the guy who are the director of all the commercials and more......?? ;)

hahah, you won't have to. if I don't finish i will kill myself. to long since i last finished a personal piece.

09 September 2007, 04:20 PM
Hi fellah,

u r the best, my best wishes , .

smu, (

09 September 2007, 10:15 PM (

not sure this is worth posting, but it was a while ago since last, so why not.

apart from the obvious BG paintover the baby has been tweaked and unwraped and the troll mamas arms have been unwraped as well.
any ideas/comments are much appreciated.

09 September 2007, 08:47 AM
Nice to see you back anders. I like the lighting, nice colors.
I just think that, with the stick, the grandma left arm would be too symetrical with the right one. Maybe put the stick a little more before her.

09 September 2007, 03:31 PM
hey thats so cool...nice update mate!...your work is looking great...very funny!

09 September 2007, 03:26 PM
Supercool image... i really love this one. All the best and good luck

Victor Marin

09 September 2007, 10:09 PM
maaan that is aweosme!!... I love the mood... when u gonna finish this thing i just cant wait... feed my eyes, they are hungry!!...

gud luck mate!

10 October 2007, 09:57 AM
Great work - I like this concept!

10 October 2007, 05:29 PM
I like the soft mix of shadows and light, making a great atmosphere:thumbsup:

10 October 2007, 07:06 PM
heya! yea when u mention it I see it. i changed my concept(which where more like u suggested) to this to have a more clear silhouette.
but now i think it will be better to do what u said. i will fix the arms later once they are rigged better. right now I'm concentrating on the whole pic, to get some BG done and see where
the pic is heading.

hah, i wonder that myself.. i hope i will finish, i will do my best to do so at least. to long since i last finished a challenge. and it would feel
shitty to have struggled so far and leave this unfinished...

thanks everyone else as well for your support!

here is another update, starting to build the BG. I am still not sure if i want the fireplace AND the walls to all be made out of wood/bark. anyone else feel this looks strange?
i might change the fireplace to stone.. i will see. comments much welcome! (

10 October 2007, 07:08 PM
Excellent lighting !
I Love this scene !

10 October 2007, 11:13 PM
awesome update buddy... im feling it... about the fireplace.. yeah i think u sud make it out of stone (CG stones wud do)... i donno for some reason the wood texture looks bit low-res to me.. a little denser texure might be cool. keep going man... i'm waiting for a fine finish from u!

10 October 2007, 11:20 PM
yeeah you simply rock fellah
now finish it before the deadline!! don't wanna know

10 October 2007, 10:06 PM
that`s a great piece so far, the mood, lightning, atmosphere, characters are all great and done with much love (at least I guess they are^^)
keep it up

10 October 2007, 06:32 PM
Anders. It looks like you will finish this challenge. What an incredible news :scream:
I like your last update, just maybe try to keep the right part of your background really dark ?
For me it's not a problem to have a whole wood environment, just a question of choice. Im not sure about it, but inside the fireplace, maybe it could be a little clearer (not much, just a little because you have very bright back light on characters that are more far from their light source).

10 October 2007, 03:07 PM
thanks mate!

thanks! you are right so i have changed the fireplace in this version.

i am working 24/7 to avoid your punishment.. whatever it might be

thanks for your comments! i have taken them into consideration in this update.
I think it looks much better with the way u suggested.

update: (

I'm modeling the props and tweaking the lights. so ideas for props and lights(and everything) else much welcome.

10 October 2007, 04:27 PM
Still cute !
The feeling of "fantasy" is touchable !

10 October 2007, 04:51 PM
thats what i'm talking abt... that looks great buddy!... still love the wormth of this image... keep going!

10 October 2007, 07:20 PM
looks bautiful...the illumination is perfect!....and textures too...nice update

10 October 2007, 09:45 PM
your lighting is awesome man! love the colours and mood
what do u have in mind for the animation?

10 October 2007, 08:59 PM
Gilles, Zubuyer and Carlos,
thanks for the constant support through this challenge, you guys are the ones who rock!

thanks! sadly this scene is to much for me to animate well.. it would need fire fx, water fx, cloth, hair movement etc.. it would be overkill so i won't do more than a little flythrough of the scene without the FX animated. maybe not even that infact. maybe i will only enter the open categories, i will see what time permits.

10 October 2007, 04:21 PM
This is wonderful1 I like it a lot, the concept, the lights and the color skeme along of course with the characters. Very well done! Good Luck!

10 October 2007, 12:04 PM
where are the updates bastard?

thanks alot for the support during this challenge btw!

Gilles and Martin,
thanks for your support!
if i had entered the illu challenge i would probably have finishedby now, animating the scene was to much for my time schedule and i learnt my lesson.
i decided i didn't wanna finish something fast or try the illu challenge to have a chance on the prices. i prefer finish it properly someday.
this challenge has pushed me to work on things/styles i didn't for a very long time and i learnt a looot during the way, which is the only price i ever wished for. pretentious, but true..:)
anyhow your words means a lot to me as i have become a fan of your works during this challenge. now get back to work on yours and take a place among the top ! :P

10 October 2007, 10:15 PM (
