Hi, Tip needed

I wasted time on this - whats the answer..?
I want to attatch a curve shape to a Group node...
or empty Transform...

How ?

this will do the trick >

I have an empty group and a nurbsCircle

createNode transform -n "null1";
createNode transform -n "nurbsCircle1";
createNode nurbsCurve -n "nurbsCircleShape1" -p "nurbsCircle1";

I save the scene as *.ma and parent the circle Shape to the null

createNode transform -n "null1";
createNode transform -n "nurbsCircle1";
createNode nurbsCurve -n "nurbsCircleShape1" -p "null1";

thats it. reopen the scene and u got the shape attached to your group node.

You are a diamond Flo.

..however .... can`t get this to work...
the created nurbscircle has no curvre history and no min max value and no spans ... nothing appears in the layout window

have tried creating a nurbs cirlce from menu but it loses
its history when parented....

Any suggestions ?

have you tried "parent -s -r"

select the shape then the null or transform and run the command.

-s means shape node.

-r means relative, so the shape will move it's pivot to that of the null. You can use -a if you want the shape to stay put.

yep, what emergence said is also a good way.
also, you dont need to modify your scene in the *.ma , you can also do it right away in script editor.
If you got several things to so, sometimes editing the ascii might be faster though.

so you need the parent with history ?
